Sept. 26, 2009 Magic

It's been a busy week in Lake Wobegon
  • Swamp boats have been replaced
  • Bailey got his first Mickey ears and needs a Disney themed Halloween Costume
  • Sonia has apparently been lured to the dark side by FatCat and has been posting drink recipes, bigferrell also joined the fun
  • There is a getting to know you questionnaire on FB
  • FatCat likes cake, specifically vanilla cake with raspberry goo. He doesn't like fresh water lobster (and for the record neither do I)
  • Intlmanofmystery showed up and then disappeared again
  • Hookedoncruises and FatCat have started their respective packing lists, lots of clothes for the former and liquor for the latter.
  • We welcomed CLB, AngolaheasrtsDisney and Julesharrison to our fine little group
  • kpadalik's DH lost his swim trunks (she is buying more)
  • Disney Sweetie's DD's wedding is coming along, no major snags so far
  • No FL rates, doesn't look promising
  • FatCat has a cool new dishwasher, he didn't like opening the old one with a screw driver
  • Kaleb is home from the hospital and doing well
  • FE's pics were posted, but not FatCat's. We will have to wait until we get to the ship see the button fly pouches!
  • Don't forget about the DIS ATV ride in St. Maarten
  • fourgonefishing and Fires Grumpy also like cake
  • We like Ansley's Kindergarten teacher, but found out that the district has gotten more strict about absences. So, they might have to skip MNSSHP.

Can you do this daily during the cruise to keep all of us in the loop about what all of us are up to. :worship::rotfl::woohoo:

I was just popping in to say thank you everyone for your kind and loving support about Ansley, but then saw Stacy's update and am now sending the following message:

Stacy, oh Stacy, I absolutely and totolly :worship: you, ::yes:: I do. While the rest of us were :cat: today, you were busy creating another wonderful weekly update for our little :sail: group. We'd better start :tiptoe: around you because 'aint nothing getting past you, Girlfriend. My :wishgoal is to be as awesome as you are!! With that, I'm signing off for the day, so I can get home for another wonderful Friday night round of [drunk] :rockband:

Good morning, everyone!! Well, we met Ansley's Kindergarten teacher yesterday and we're very excited because Ansley is assigned to the teacher we were hoping for (I really can't believe our luck - - everyone wants this particular teacher because she's so amazing). YAY!! :yay: :woohoo:

However, apparently, our school district has changed its policy on absences to be even more strict, and, unfortunately, we aren't going to be able to pull her out of school on Friday so we can attend MNSSHP. :guilty: (We are going to be in enough hot water for pulling her out for 5 days for the cruise.) So, to everyone who we were supposed to meet at MNSSHP, I'm so sorry that we won't be there to party with you, but I know that you guys will be having a rockin' time anyway!! :cheer2:

Awwww no way!!!!!! We have the same policy about being at school for a few hours and pulling them out after - not counted against. Alex's teacher was awesome in Kindergarten (she happened to be a HUGE disney fan) but she also understood that we as parents don't always get to choose a vacation in the summer.

I don't know about her 1st grade teacher this year though. We will meet with her on Thurs. (keeping my fingers crossed too)

Sonia

For anyone dealing with school issues, good luck! :goodvibes My parents used to take me out for a week (or two! :scared1:) when I was in elementary school, and I was a straight A student my entire school career. I did not drop out, turn to drugs, or dye my hair purple. What is so stupid is that these requirements and their "concerns" are not for your child's education, but for THEIR state funding. So for everyone dealing with the bureaucracy of public education I will have you in my thoughts! :thumbsup2 One of the many reasons we plan to home school our future children...

I am getting so excited for the cruise! Dave is counting down constantly. I am finished with the FE gifts for the children and just need to wrap up the ones for the adults. I think everyone will like them a lot! We have also started to plan outfits, make a VERY extensive packing list, and buy all sorts of things. I purchased everything for our floating medicine cabinet the other night. Sea sickness is a huge fear of mine, since we have been looking forward to this for so long I don't want it ruined by a stupid inner ear issue!

I have no idea :confused3 how many suitcases we will end up with but I am hoping for a FAA regulation sized carryon for each of us of clothes/toiletries, plus a small duffel bag to carry on as well with the camera, cruise docs, medicines etc, and a large piece to check with Pirate costumes, formal wear, etc. We are not flying, so if they lose our bag from the check in point at port to the ship that would be pretty pathetic, so I am not to worried about that happening. If I should be, someone let me know! :rotfl2:

Dave has pretty much an all new wardrobe, from shorts and tshirts to dress shirt and slacks. He needed new clothes anyways ( REFUSES to go to the store with me...) so I just bought some, forced an at home try on, and set them aside for the cruise!

Pretty much done with our door magnets :woohoo: EVERYONE will know which cabin is ours! I am having such a blast making these things.

Alright so I am off to work on some cruise related stuff so I will catch y'all later!

Amanda, on our first cruise I took dramamine, some people swear by bonine. Which ever one you take, take it the night before the cruise. A friend of ours didnt and she started feeling queasy at dinner. She then took the pills that they give you on the ship, but it still took a couple of hours for her to even start feeling better. It was an early night for her and her family. :sad1:

I have heard that some people use ginger. I think you can get them in pill form at a wholefood / natural herbs and spices store.

I cant wait to see your door!!! :woohoo:

Sonia

Ginger works very well. I've found ginger candies that didn't have too strong a taste - they helped me through my last cruise!

have been gone WWWAAAYYY TOOOO long. :faint: spent last few nights catching up on 30+ pages :surfweb: think i'm almost caught up now. great to see us so chatty :hyper2:

had to take an unpleasant haitus: my MIL passed away a few weeks ago unexpectedly  :littleangel: made an emergency trip back to RI (1000 miles and about 15 hrs in the van :drive:) only to come back to work in NC for 4 days and turn around and go back to VT (1200 miles and 17hrs :drive::drive:) for a previously planned vacation. pretty darned tired of driving.

almost done with work her for the night. will reply/post a bit more later.

becca...so glad your DS is getting better.:cloud9: know how stressful it is to have a kid get  sending you more hugs, patience and strength to make it through :grouphug:

I have a special request that I'm wondering if anyone can help me with:
Jodi _cruise buddy keeps dreaming of Royale candy bars that were/are made by nestle. Can anybody direct me on where I can buy or get me some to give to her. She says she bought in Canada ( the country not Epcot) couple years ago. I personally have had no luck when I've looked while visting.

Hal, welcome back and my condoleances!

Fire; haven't got a clue what those are! Did a quick google search but didn't come up with much. Did learn that apparently the US branch of Nestlé only does milk chocolate KitKat. Had the idea that we were running behind with finally getting pure chocolate KitKat and white chocolate Kitkat (and KitKat chunky, KitKat in little ballshapes), but for once it seems the other way round. :scared1:

I could swear i've seen white chocolate ones but maybe it was a special time thing. and i'd seen mint ones in past. from what I can find I think Jodi either has company wrong or it's a bygone item. I think once she tastes some real chocolate she'll drop the royale dream.

Lanyards: I know I've brought this up a few times then I totally forget about it for clips at a time. I think everyone is just using whatever they already have. Can I just buy any old Disney lanyard? My kids got theirs already, and I think everyone decided to pass on these as a group and just get our own right?

Rececca: you are so sweet for doing so many FE gifts!!!! You must be up until the wee hours every night with the kids, the home schooling and the FE gifts.

AND SPEAKING OF FEs...does anyone have any pull with "gradysmommy" on ebay? I guess she went on vacation, and was supposed to return early August. I dumbly waited to buy my FE from her, and now have tried to contact her to no avail. Just hoping to get my order in with her since I just loved her FEs she had listed on ebay before she left. There is still no sign of her on ebay.

And lastly...thanks so much to whoever mentioned to check out the schools website for orientation information. I was again dumbly waiting on getting something in the mail since we are only 2 weeks out from school starting. Well sure enough they posted all of the orientation information online. What happens if you don't have internet. Gasp to those poor souls, but I know at least 2 people that aren't computer savvy and don't care that they aren't. I guess they just find out last minute. Anyway, THANKS!!!

If (which is always a big IF) I'm up to date, it was decided not to do group lanyards. Everybody gets their own.

For easy recognition, one of us -memory, here it goes again *shamefull look*- decided to make a unique 'recognise-card' that all can wear in the cardholder on the lanyard as her FE-gift. :thumbsup2

That all being said, I'm planning on bringing along my rainbow-coloured-mickey-heads-lanyard. :goodvibes

What is white maltesers (?), that can't be what she is looking for is it?

Sonia

I do have a question about the FE. I told my wife about it and she made some cargo shorts with each pocket being for a different person in the fam and decorated it all disney like. Then I saw somewhere that it can't be more than 8 inches wide. The only reason I could find is that it would be wider than that section of the wall. I haven't measured the shorts, but I doubt it's only 8 or even 9 inches wide. Is this really a problem? In looking at the pictures I woudn't think it would be, but I don't know. Do you?

I don't think this should be a problem. It may just hang over the sides a little bit. Sounds cute though!:thumbsup2

This is great! I like this week-in-review! Thanks Spectrum!

This reminds me of what happened to us last summer. We went on a Carnival cruise out of Miami. After disembarking, we went to go find our luggage in the baggage area. We got it all, except for one piece! Finally, after almost all of the luggage had been picked up, we found a suitcase that looked just like ours, except it wasn't. Come to find out, someone had picked up our suitcase (which even had a red ribbon on it) and left with it. Thank goodness they were smart enought to put contact info on the luggage tag! We called the number and some doctor in Illinois picked up the phone. He had loaned his brother some luggage for the cruise. So he gave me his bro's cell #. I called the number and thank goodness he answered. They were driving to Ft Lauderdale airport!!!! I told him we thought he had a piece of our luggage. HIS luggage was still at the terminal. He felt so stupid. He ended up turning around and coming back to the terminal to switch out his luggage. I can't imagine what would have happened if he had already boarded his plane!!!!

Dave has pretty much an all new wardrobe, from shorts and tshirts to dress shirt and slacks. He needed new clothes anyways ( REFUSES to go to the store with me...) so I just bought some, forced an at home try on, and set them aside for the cruise!

Yeah, we hit Kohl's last night and spent almost $400 :scared1: on a new suit, 2 shirts and ties for DH, a couple shirts and 3 dresses for me. I think (I hope) we are done cruise clothes shopping!
