Sept. 2009 @ WDW! Be a Pop Tart 2009~come share your(Bounce Back or NOT)Dates !!!

Hey, I saw Four, count 'em, 4, movies this weekend! Amazing!

Has anyone else seen any of these:

Revolutionary Road (disappointing)
The Wrestler (keep my fingers in my ears and eyes closed a lot)
Doubt (2nd time to see this and want to see it again when it come on cable..that nun was a witch..and on a witch hunt).
Milk ( not my cup of tea, but he earned that scar)

Wanted to see The Reader, but we couldn't fit it in as Lynne's flight was Sunday evening out of RDU.

I am interested in seeing Doubt. Also want to see Slum Dog Millionaire!
I don't like watching depressing or violent films. popcorn::

The wrestler has violence in it but the store behind it is what is great. I haven't seen the movie yet I was hoping it would come out for the IPOD so I could watch it going to Boston.

I guess I am a little prejudices due to the fact that I am a former pro-wrestler myself so this kind of movie interest me.

I enjoy the few times that I am home alone. My husband always worked nights, less supervision, so I am used to being on my own. I am the one with the gun and most likely to be dangerous if someone should drop in unannounced. When I am alone I only have myself to defend so it would be easier. :lmao:

M&N, do you go to movies alone? I do. I do not mind either. Do not go to many now that I have Netflix and the magic box though. I have all the award winning movies on my list and should receive them sometime this year. I am hankering to go see "Slumdog Millionaire". I have a fondest for the show and also human interest stories. I have a batch of Millionaire winnings in my collection and am still heartbroken over the attraction being gone. I think that certain areas of our country have more crime because they are near drug paths and such. It seems that Florida does have more than its share of unusual and extremely violent crimes though. I remember one trip when they had armed guards at McD's. It scared me more than comforted me. I had my gun under the seat. I am legal. :thumbsup2

Pooh, I knew many of the older wrestlers in my youth and even worked for Dick the Bruiser, in one of his more legitimate businesses. He was a nice man. That was a nice thing for your vet to do. Shows that they care about the animals.

JM, my best friend is currently in your area at their second home. My sister who lives there is on her way to Europe for a free two week tour. Her best friend is a travel agent. She has always been very good at picking friends. :dance3: I bet you fear Indiana because of all the tornadoes. I have lived here for decades and have never seen one. The news skews things in both directions. :flower3:

Diva K, bet Facebook is a lot nicer for having you around. Do you have to be registered or have a page to sign a book? I might do that. My grandson has a page on there. I helped him with his homework last night over the phone. It was English. Julius Caesar. Friends, Romans, Countrymen! Yes, I can go on but will not cause I love ya!

They announced that they are laying off another 400 plus where my dd works. She only has a bit over a year in. Scary, very scary. I know we have enough to carry ourselves through the storm but not sure how the lifeboat will work with far more people, especially folks who are used to going out to eat every day and spending money without care. DD is a hard worker and will flip burgers if necessary but the rest of the family is plumb spoiled. Might be good to do without a bit, just do not want them to go without the necessities. Our son works for a place that makes parts for Chrysler. He is a hard worker as well but there are not many jobs to be had anywhere. He has four children. I have a very large house but my kids were hard enough to live with the first time around. Of course, I would take them in and share any old way. Love them. why, not always sure. :lmao:

Linda

SG, even though I don't sleep well when DH is gone, I sometimes enjoy it myself. Get the remote all to myself, and one less person to take care of.:rotfl: But I still miss him.

I hope your kids jobs will be ok. DH's brother lost his job yesterday. Him and his fiance just bought a house and are to be married in May. It's a scary world out there.

Oh, I grew up in W. Texas. We had tornadoes. In fact, Mother's Day about 15 or so years ago we were returning home from Grandma's when it started hailing. We pulled in one of those car washes that is just concrete block walls and a roof. Don't ever pull into one of those during a storm. I watched the roof come off and the walls fall on us. The people behind us had a pole fall on them. Fortunately everyone was ok, but one man said he saw a funnel cloud come down and take that roof. I sort of freak out during storms now. Love to watch them, just not be in them.

Poohbear, you were a professional wrestler? Seriously? :cool1:

That is wonderful that the vet's office did that.

Well, not sure how much I will be out here for awhile. My desktop crashed and I have to use the DH's laptop. Dell told me to call the Geek Squad and get them to try to recover the hard drive data. :headache: Looks like I can have them come to the house for $300 and take care of it. Guess I should have extended the service contract. Oh well, guess it stimulates the economy just a bit.

Slumdog Millionaire might be too depressing for me...

Doubt is better if you went to a Catholic School with nuns and can understand the whole feeling of the school etc. (I'm a sucker for almost anything to do with nuns and one of their worst critics..bad.very bad.). :sad2:

JM, If DD moves to Tampa I will be right along with them. Poor things are stuck with me..only next time we hope to find a house with an in-law-suite of some sort. Personally, I am blessed to have such a wonderful DD, so I'd be happy in a basement (where she refuses to let me live). Anyway, will definitely touch base if/when that happens. Thank you! :flower3:

EPCOT this Friday? :cool1:

Ohh, that is awful about your desktop...ouch..then again even with the extended service contract Dell was very little help. Not my favorite company right now.

SG, I used to go to movies alone sometimes when we lived in Boston, but not here. It was an option to go alone then. Make sense?

Will be holding your DD near in heart and thoughts...

Pooh, a pro-wrestler? Very interesting. ::yes:: I was disappointed that the story was not as in depth as we expected with The Wrestler. Mickey Rouke was excellent.

Well, have been sleeping fine the last couple of night. Have the downstairs TV on a sleep timer, hallway light on, stairway light on very dim, night light in hall, my TV on all night, office TV on all night...porch light on and backyard flood lights on (fortunately, not one window from another house is effected). We are a corner lot, so other homes are not that close...and being used to house just a few ft apart in the city...well, this is pretty frightening...still, I admit to being a wimp. ;)

Enjoy having the place to myself during the day time...it's only when the sun sets.

SG - I don't know about that gun!!!! :scared1: ;)

Ohmyohmy...facebook! I am so confused over there!! Thank goodness DivaK does not mind all my questions! She's been a peach!

Okay, I am drawing a blank..what is that site where you can see the suggested crowds and days for each park - for free. You can pay for more info, but the basic info is free.

Need one (reasonably priced :rotfl: ) child friendly sit down at one of the parks. I've already suggested The Plaza and Sci Fi - both a hit. Sent links with menu and info for both.

Trail's End did not seem kid friendly (ages 12 and 7)... so need one more. ...help, please!

Thank you!!

Florida doesn't have a lot of basements.:rotfl: I didn't realize you lived with your daughter. I think I am losing my mind. I'll blame it on being sick. When we bought this house, the one room we made the guest room we call "Myra's Room", my DMIL. :rotfl: It is across from ours, but one of the baths is right next to it, so she doesn't have to share with the kiddo.

Sorry, can't help with the website.

We love 50's Primetime. Does it have to be at a park? My picky DS loves WCC. Just for all the antics.

Oh, WCC is a GREAT suggestion!!! Is it terribly expensive? I've not been there as I'm too shy for all the antics. lol I'll check all ears right now! Thanks!

Oh, right now my room is at the end of the hall, down 3 steps - my bathroom is at the opposite end of the hall - nothing we could do about that, bt next time hoping it will be closer. It's not easy to find an in-law apt or even suite....but next time what will be MOST important (other than a good Catholic or friends school for Sophias) is that I can get around without having to drive...I don't drive (nope, never) and am very isolated here..no buses, no where to walk to..no sidewalks.

Otherwise I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful family...and I get to care for baby Sophia!

WCC is probably pricey. We always get the All You Care to Eat Platter, which I believe is about $28 a person for dinner, but most of the meals at WDW seem to be around that price. I'm usually kind of shy, but I love WCC.

If you come to Tampa, you will find lots of sidewalks. A large community here is Fishhawk Ranch. Has nature trails and is one of the communities where the houses are built around a town center. Schools are suppose to be some of the best, but the main one just didn't sound like a good fit for my Jacob. Our subdivision is right around the corner from two grocery stores and a new Walgreens is going in and soon a Sams. There will be sidewalks to all of it. I understand about the no sidewalks or good bus system. Where we lived before didn't have sidewalks. They have very wide streets though, but right now there is a lot of discussion because a lot of pedestrians have been hit by cars.:scared1:

Hope everyone has a good day.

So true..that seems to be the dinner price for many buffets now.

:scared1: Oh, my, that could be me!!!:rotfl:

Last time we were in Tampa (for a wedding) we went to an older part of town, where there was all kinds of neat shops: Gap, Restoration, Talbots etc, nice old homes (beautiful area tho)but for the life of me cannot recall the name of the area...Old Town? Nope...well, anyway, the other day I did remember and did a search on a Prudential Realtor site - not one single home came up under $300,000!! NOT ONE!!!

I dreaded the move here (Greensboro, NC), but have tried to think of it as a temporary adventure. ;) Tampa is more appealing - although I am terrified of snakes and those giant roaches and gecko's getting in the house...an acquaintance lives in Bradenton and talks about all those creatures getting in now and then!!!

I am always overwhelmed by the help we receive on this site, and thread. If one person has a question there is always someone who can help, and does. I had a friendly DISer I did not even know help me in buying my last car by giving me some very useful inside information that saved me big bucks. :lovestruc

M&N, how old are the children? The Crystal Palace at MK has great character interaction and the kids get to make parades around the dining room. The food is nice also and suited for adults and children. Older children might enjoy The Garden Grill. The aquarium at the Coral Reef is interesting for the nature lover. As far as crowd levels I go by the - go to the park the day after they have EMH's and it has never failed me. Of course holidays skew the results. I will check and see if I can find the site that has the free information but it does not do far off. Please remind me if you have to. I promise so much and sometimes forget to deliver. I am not as young as Diva K ya know. :rotfl: I would also doubt the prices you are seeing right now, especially in the Tampa area and others that are being hard hit by the current situation. I have seen where houses are selling for nearly half of what they did a year ago. Many modern houses are built with a split bedroom plan so that you could have a private corner of the house if you do not find an in law suite. I hope you do though. It is hard being dependent on others to get places. Until I snuck out and learned how to drive I was in such a situation. Best rebellion I have ever done and where would we be if I had not?

jmskinner, that is a scary story. I am glad that you did not get hurt. The drive home from DW with Miss Lucy was the scariest thing I have ever been through. There were trees and interstate signs falling all around, mostly on the other side of the road thankfully. I could not find shelter and thought it best to drive for daylight. Many were without electricity for several days when I returned, not us though. Tampa has so many interesting things to do and see. My sister lives in Clearwater and goes to Ruth Eckard (sp?) Hall often. Convenient to the airport also. I may end up down there someday, if I am lucky.

Back to work. Have to do double cause I have a luncheon date tomorrow. Yeah! A real person. Not that I do not love you all but it is not the same, it is not. My favorite is sitting around the pool with you all though.

SG

It's so true, SG...genuine help always at hand. ::yes::

The children are 12 and 7 yrs - they were looking for a less expensive option than character meals and lesser $ options in general - which are hard to come in WDW.

Sci Fi is not less costly, but thought the kids might enjoy the old fashioned drive-in and sitting in the car - my kids always did as have the children I've had the privilege of taking when they parents had no desire or interest. Shocking, I know..but some intellectuals just do not get the enchantment of Disney.

Anyway, her munchkins looked at the info and loved it, so they will try Sci Fi and The Plaza (which I also recommended).

Trails End used to be a terrific lunch value, but they've changed the menu to mostly sandwich fixin's and soup - no thanks. Must check to see if the dinner cost is worth still worth it.

yep, did suggest she go by the previous day EMH and visit one of those parks - they are doing the hopper option...think I mentioned that already. Did I mention she is a Dis'er planning a first trip with their munchkins?

Thank you ever so much for the suggestions. I just love when we know our friends will come through...and so quickly!

Oh! I'm not usually a fan of the dining plan, but suggested it might be worth looking into - what do y'all think? Since they are on a budget (aren't we all), would the dining plan give them more for their money or can they do 2 or 3 sit downs and the rest counter service and spend less than the dining plan?

Thank you much! :flower3:

What about Hollywood and Vine for Lunch or Dinner. Also check Trails again, I think they made more adjustments to the menu. Also Tusker house for Lunch/Dinner also Beaches and Cream or Spoodles for Epcot maybe.

Put my deposit down today for August :woohoo:

I was taught by nuns in elementary school and even worked for them when I taught high school English...
I agree some are very unhappy people but I came to admire some of them...:teacher:

Since we're talking about dining...here are our early picks for August (with free dining)
WCC (lunch or dinner, haven't been there since 2002 but want to try it again since we'll have a ketchup lover in our group!)
Le Cellier (lunch or dinner if I can get it...also thinking about Japan, never been but heard it was like Benihana and thought the kids would get a kick out of it!)
Sci Fi Drive-in (lunch or dinner, never been but DS wants to try it!)
Ohana (lunch or dinner, were there 9/08 and enjoyed it, thought all the meat would appeal to the men and the Divas loved the salad!)
Donald's Safari Breakfast (been many times, always enjoyable!)

Kris, I'm so excited for you!! :cheer:

I'm glad you had a good experience too. I also attended Catholic School, then entered a monastery. If people who how difficult the life was for the teaching Sisters prior to VATII they would be shocked - harsh, rigid and unkind. VATII implemented wise changes - when I entered those changes had not yet taken place, but our monastery was a gentle and loving community. By the way....since I can never resist a chance to correct myself..."Nuns" are those who make solemn vows and are cloistered, while "Sisters" make simple vows and are involved in teaching, social work, nursing etc.

Where do you find those wonderful things you post!

The Ash Wednesday Blessings is beautiful - thank you!

Sci Fi still gets mixed reviews, but we always enjoy it - be sure to request cars or they will put you at the tables which are not nearly as much fun! They should be able to get you in cars close to one another, so you can see one another in the dark! :)

We did not enjoy Ohana for dinner, but I was very surprised by how much we enjoyed breakfast!

Donald's Safari - have you been there since it moved to Tusker House? We loved it before the move, but have heard now it's hurry, hurry, hurry and crammed seating. Will look forward to hearing your experience. ::yes::

Japan (can't recall the new name) is like Benihana and if you get a really fun chef, it's even more fun.

Ohh, so much fun to plan a Disney trip wtih friends and family! :lovestruc
