Here's what we did in a few ports.
Barcelona
Fat Tire Bike Tour - private tour arranged by our group. About 20 or so of us. Took a bike tour around the city and saw many of the major sites, Sagrada Familia, Barri Gotic, Olympic Village, Barcelonetta, and Parc de la Ciutadella. It was about 4 1/2 hours. It was an easy ride, not at all strenous, although our guide would pick up a good speed at times. I will either do this again (so I can see the beginnign of the tour**see footnote), or a Segway tour.

The steps Christopher Columbus climbed to ask the Queen for money to sail to the new land
Museu de la Xocolata (Chocolate Museum) - another private tour arranged by our group. We had about 12 people. We were allowed time to wander the museum and see all the statues and figures made entirely of chocolate. Then we gathered for a lecture on the history of chocolate which included tastings of hot chocolate (white, milk and dark) and solid chocolate (white, milk, and dark).
I also spent some time wandering the city. I had heard all the warnings about pick pockets and the need to be extra careful. Honestly I did not ever feel threatened or intimidated. As with any big city, you need to be aware of your surroundings. There is a huge semi-outdoor market that I wanted to visit. It was featured on the Travel Channel Show, Bizarre Foods. I didn't necessarily want any of the 'foods' I saw featured, but I did want to see the market. Unfortunately I left that activity for my Sunday there and the market was closed. In fact many shops were closed on Sunday.
Gibraltar
Toured the "Rock" - our group arranged for the cable car to open early. We rode the cable car up and walked back down. The fare for the cable car included a round trip, but we chose to walk. I had my 74 yr old mother with me who is afraid of heights. She was nervous when she saw the cable car, but didn't have any issues during the ride. She was also able to walk the entire way down. We did take our time and stopped several times though. I gave her the option of taking the tram back down, but she chose to keep on going. Next time I'll probably just grab a taxi and go up that way. The taxi drivers know the mountain and the monkeys. They'll stop wherever you want and they'll even carry food to attract the monkeys so you can interact with them. If you're afraid, they will handle them for you.

After reaching town we found an English style pub for fish and chips. Wow, was that good, and a lot of food. We could have shared a plate but we didn't know how big it would be.
Afternoon Tea - in the afternoon we did a
DCL tour, which we could have done without. It was a bus tour of the far side of the area in which we saw a lighthouse and a shipwreck. The shipwreck had just happened a few days prior to our arrival. Tea was served at a cliffside hotel. We had a beautiful view of the Straights. The food and tea were good, but not overly impressive.
***footnote***The bike tour was scheduled for our 2nd day in Barcelona. I forgot to set my alarm or arrange for a wakeup call. The group was meeting at 8:15am. I figured I'd wake up in time. Well, I woke up at 8:15. So I threw on some clothes and headed out. Our group was meeting on the pier then heading over to the meeting point for the bike shop. Of course they were already gone, so I grabbed a taxi. I had the name of the square that they were meeting in, but not the address of the bike shop. My driver spoke no English and my limited Spanish did not help me. He could get me to the square but couldn't understand what I was asking for when I asked about the bikes. So standing in the middle of the square, there were alleyways in multiple directions. I just started walking around looking at the signs. I turned down one alley and low and behold a few people on bikes started riding towards me. Then I see more and more and I see Todd! This was my group! We were just around the corner from the shop so the guide had everyone wait and took me back to get a bike. I think they had only visited one other place before I found them. What luck!
