I'm really curious - just how many of us on this cruise are using Tracy W as your TA? I know Mrs Mork and I are, but who else is booked through her? She said there were quite a few of her clients onboard.

I usually use Tracy (and have upcoming cruises booked with her) but this time I decided to give my friend Monica some business... :goodvibes I do really rate Tracy tho' - she's been amazing for me in the past!!! :worship:

And, on another side note: who else has a room (or two) in their house that looks like a tornado hit it because you're in the middle of a packing storm?!

Me!!! My youngest son went back to school today and within minutes of the car leaving the drive, I had stripped his bed, dumped two cases in there and piled my cruise clothes on the mattress!!! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: Poor Samuel! :thumbsup2 I'm just hoping Becky doesn't plan on coming home for a while as she won;t be able to sleep in her bed!:rolleyes1

:littleangel:

Under the previously announced plan, they had them completely shuffled, and there was no way to avoid being in one of the restaurants on either a formal night or semi-formal night. Now it's swung back to the opposite approach where it's sort of all or nothing!

It definitely would have been better to mix it up--one night in each.

Sue--I think one time it was posted which dinner menu would be served each night. I like the Lumiere's rotational dinner and don't want to go to Palo that night. I thought the rotational dinners were nights 4,5, and 6. Does your friendly concierge know?

I just realized that I need to get DS's pants hemmed. They take a week. Aarrgghh... The pre-vacation stress is starting!

Oh Gosh - dealing with DCL on the phone is almost as painful as calling for tech support with my computer company. When we received our docs from DCL there was a page that indicated they still needed the flight info for my DH. On-line it indicated that all check-in info was complete for both of us. I called DCL and they said disregard as everything was complete. My TA called me this morning to confirm she had made final payment on our PCanal cruise. She said while she had Disney on the line she confirmed our 9-18 booking was ok. They told her we still needed to complete our immigration forms? She could not get on their site so she asked them what they were talking about as she had checked a couple of days ago and it said all our check-in forms were completed. DCL told her we needed to go on-line and complete the forms but weren't any more help. She told me she would continue to look into it. I told her I would too. I finally got my reservation to come up and it looked completed so I called DCL. After the "press 121 if you need to be transferred to the suicide prevention center recording merry-go-round" I got a women in the Documents Area who looked at my reservation and said she had to transferred me to reservations - she disconnected me. Called back and got someone who said I hadn't printed out the contract and payment authorization form and I needed to do that before they could note I had completed everything. I asked why I should print the forms when they had sent them to me with my documentation book with pages that can be riped out and signed. She sighed and said "we need you to print them out so you can read them" I told her they are in the docs DCL sent so why would I print out 10 pages of the same stuff they have printed and what if I didn't have a printer. She responded, that is why we send them. At that point I gave up. It shouldn't be this hard.
I did ask her to confirm the dining rotation, just to see if I would get a different answer. She said there has been a change this week, and quickly said "you know - it is subject to change." Formal nights 2 & 8, semi-formal 13, pirates night 11, villians night 6. The CD Brent. At the end of the call I got a call back, not the usual survey - a recording asking me to rate the call and if I wanted a supervisor to call me regarding the service I received. I pushed no - maybe I should have talked with her just for more pain. val
Oh my goodness Val, what a shambles DCL are! I had to laugh at the 'suicide prevention center'. Oh dear, I feel so stressed for you.
me too
:rotfl: Laura just saw the Naked Man of Barcelona :rotfl:

I asked if she had her camera.....she said it was her small one but it did the job!! :lmao:

:lmao:

:rotfl2: Poor Samuel! :thumbsup2 I'm just hoping Becky doesn't plan on coming home for a while as she won;t be able to sleep in her bed!:rolleyes1

:littleangel:
 I've got 9 days (I think he's back on the evening of Friday 17th) in which to use (abuse :rolleyes1 ) his space .. Perfect timing!!! :thumbsup2

Ok, I know you can all beat me with a stick when you see me, but I just have to say this::rotfl2:

I have worked in the hospitality industry before and EVERYTHING you do is subject to change. There is no cruise ship, hotel or even a football event that caters to a group like ours. We work around them, they (DCL) don't work around us. I just want to say that and no, I do not work for DCL, but to give them the benefit of the doubt, it may seem that they are trying to ruffle our feathers or mess with us, but trust me, in the long run, they are probably doing something that makes the trip better that we are not even aware of.

Okay, back to the regular disboards and I hope no one hates me!!

Hi Sandi,

I don't think that's the nature of this group, to hate anyone who gives us a gift of information. I appreciate it, and thanks for posting! :flower3: I'm sure the whole cruise is like a Swiss watch, with thousands of intricate parts moving and shifting, and orchestrating them all to make it a happy experience for us has got to be an enorMOUSE undertaking!

Thanks for the insight! :3dglasses

And See You Real Soon!
Richard

Let me introduce the traveling Ivanna Cruz!

I hope you play along!
THANK YOU!!!

sounds like fun!

As of now we have ALL PRIVATE DIS tastings. I just have a couple of conflicts that we are trying to resolve. We only had to split one group - Martini as there were 70 of us. So, we are doing well! I will post all that I know tonight.

Thank you for doing this

I am glad that the first formal night is not on a port day - however they could of spaced the rest out a bit better. Still any Magic restaurant is on the Magic... what more can you ask for.

I have one small corner of a room that is starting to pile up, but my mother is about to arrive and take over our guest room and both the kids and DH seem to think they should be allowed to have beds to sleep in. :lmao: I can see some last minute packing (or should i say panicing) going on.

Listening to the news and heard big aftershock in New Zealand - hope Paula and family are okay.

Also, cruise ship news - what cruise ships are doing to look out for big waves because there have been some problems. The video they showed was all the furniture went from one side of the ship to the other. Then, the big question they raised after that, "Are cruise ships really safe?" Ahh! I was like - are you kidding me? Anybody else see it??
Back from the annual female squish-a-gram. Actually was the easiest and least painful one I have ever had done by a technician. Of course being a natural pessimist, my first thoughts were she probably didn't do it right and they will want me back for another one. Sure hope not!!

fingerscrossed.gif

From FB:

Paula Sillars can confirm that earplugs and sleeping with a pillow over your head goes a long way to ignoring earthquakes. And I almost missed the 4.2 we had a short while ago by trying to avoid an early morning cold, wet dog nose in my ear.

I did not see the cruise video, where did you see it?

Noel, you should really be a travel agent. I wish I had thought of Luggage Forward a few days ago. I would've shipped pirate stuff, formal wear, and Mike's bathroom, and Mike's closet over there ahead of time! It's too late for me now, but will they deliver it to your hotel in Barcelona? I am dreading thinking about what we are taking. Fortunately, we are in First Class so we get extra luggage allowance, but that still means we need to cart it from BCN to Le Meridien.

Can I just tell you that I am SOOO jealous of all of you who have husbands who pack a toothbrush and two changes of clothes?

P.S. Good luck with your squishy.

As reported squishy went well. Why not call and see. Phone number is 1-866-416-7447. You can tell them I recommended you to their service. I am having bags delivered to the Le Meridien. I emailed and got a confirming email from Gil, Concierge at the Le Meridien that they would do this for me as we are checking in their on Friday before our tour. It is not cheap but I was over my limit for the Air Berlin flight so I really had not choice.

Mine have all been uncomfortable. It would be nice if they could find a more comfortable method.

I hope you don't have to have a repeat squish too. That is always a worry.

Thanks again Corinna for all the work you have put into this. I know we are going to enjoy the workshops!!!

I hope that everybody will enjoy the workshops. I am sure I will enjoy them, too once I am on the ship and know that everybody has their kits. This is turning into a complete nightmare. On a positive note, the kits for the late joiners are done and just waiting to go in the carry on. Now I just have to hope that the postal service will come through for me and then I can tick this off my “To Do” list.

We had rain overnight, but it has been beautiful since. Looks like it might have moved northwards from here. I'm thinking it might shower again, but for now I have the washing out!!!

Waiting for 3 parcels to arrive. Bras from one place, shapewear from another, and a warmer cardigan from somewhere else!!! I promise I will wear something between the bra, shapewear and cardigan though.:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I hope that they arrive soon and that everything fits.

Personally, I don't know that I'd want to be on the Dream's transatlantic cruise. I imagine it will be quite "rough" around the edges until they get everything worked out, so I'll hold off until she's primed and ready to go with a full crew!

I can absolutely understand where you are coming from, but it does appeal to my sense of adventure. I know somebody on here did the Transatlantic cruise on the Norwegian Epic, which was the very first cruise and they seemed to have had a great time. Graham is firmly with you though. I tried to talk him into a back to back cruise on the Dream in April or May next year and he is refusing to even consider sailing on the Dream in her first season. Still, this is wholly academical as they are not going to release the Transatlantic cruise to the general public anyway and I would not have the leave if they did.

I'm not in the jewelry classes because I was such a late comer, however, I do have those tools if you would like me to bring them for others. I am bringing some projects to do on 'at sea days' but all I need are scissors and a needle and thread.

If you do have room in your baggage for the tools and would be able to lend them to me for the workshops, this would be absolutely perfect. I would really appreciate this.

OK - I just got notice from Autumn that they revamped the dining rotations. I am none too happy about this!!!

Here are the new ones. Please not that themes moved as well!!! So, now both formal nights are in the same restaurant!!!

diningrotations.jpg

Hayley, hope that you are not mad - I moved us to Rotation 3, as formal night is wining out over Pirate night... UUGH - please let me know ASAP if this is NOT ok...

I have updated page 1 as well...

Sign me one very unhappy camper...

Thanks for letting us know. I am sorry for all of you whose plans have been messed up buy this, but on a personal level, I am delighted about the changes. I won’t know what rotation I will be on until I get to the ship anyway. I requested a specific server and I just have to put up with whatever rotation he is on. For me having this particular server is more important than the rotation, especially as this is his last cruise on the Magic. I absolutely love that we have the first formal night on a sea day now. I really want to wear my “Princess Dress” on the night the Prince and Princess Menu is served, but there was no way that I could have done this on a port day as the dress takes forever to put on. So I am on happy cruiser at the moment.

The one good thing about this schedule is that Pirate Night is on my birthday!!!!! I can wear my costume and have fireworks!!! I will wear my Mickey Mouse Club T-shirt another day.

I am glad that this I also working out for you.

OK, so I admit I'm a little late checking in, but 10000s of posts can be a little intimidating :P The excitement of being less than 2 weeks out has overcome it though :rotfl:

Welcome on board.

OK - in addition to the sour news I got on rotations, I did get Autumn involved with out tasting seminars. I have an outstand question on them, but will go so far as to say that I am happier with them than the dining...

More on those tonight... I have to get back to work...

I am so glad that you did manage to get this sorted out.

Also how come we do not hold a big Dis gathering like Cruise Critics does???

Do they get a special deal.????

I think it is just a question of somebody organizing it. On the Med cruise we had a fabulous Disboards reception in Studio Sea on the second sea day. We had the owner of the Disboards and co-owner of Dreams Unlimited travel on that cruise and he organized this all with DCL. They provided finger food and drinks and it was really nice. We did not have any officers there though.

I organized a Meet and Greet for a group from Cruise Critic, and I am no one but a member/contributor to cruise critic, while on a Princess Cruise in November. Princess could not have been more helpful. They had someone at corporate I contacted who setup a place for us to meet. They provided a lounge, bartender and free snacks after the boat drill. She also posted the meeting in the officers daily. When I got to the ship there was a letter waiting for me from the head purser offering any help our group needed. The CD, his assistant, the hotel manager, the purser, restuarant lead and a couple of other officers came to meet us, talked about the ship, offerred to help us if we needed anything and of course offered to help us with our reviews. I was very very impressed. I guess DCL is so popular they don't need to worry about people writing poor reviews. val

This sounds very much like what we had on our cruise on NCL. Again, this was organized by an ordinary member from Cruise Critic. They set up for us in one of the premium restaurants and provided pastries, juice, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. We also had the Captain, the hotel director, assistant food and beverage manager, cruise director and assistant cruise director stopping by as well as the person from NCL who organized all of this. The captain actually stayed for the whole of the reception.

Maybe a stupid question... But... do you think they make offial pics on every formal night?

On formal night and semi-formal night on all of our cruises they always had characters in their formal clothes; various back drops and also took photos in the atrium in front of the Helmsman Mickey statue. I also heard that there was a Captain’s reception with opportunities to have your photo taken with the Captain on both formal nights on the EBTA. Krisann or Jeanne (grlzmom) should be able to confirm this as they did the EBTA.

In Australia a phobia of spiders can be a healthy thing to have as many of them are deadly. however i am fine with spiders, but snakes or leaches - bad, very bad.

I hate all of them and I am not to keen on Scorpions either. Fortunately I never encountered a Scorpion in Dubai, but I know they are there. Spiders in particular are the reason why I still have not made it to Australia and I was supposed to go to Queensland in 1994.

The reason I've been posting so much today is I'm home from work. I have broncitis. Happy, happy, joy, joy. But better this week than next.:cool1::cool1::cool1:

This will give my co-workers a dry run as to how to survive for the 18 days I'll be gone.:banana:

I am sorry to hear that you are poorly and hope that you feel better soon.

So, DCL knows exactly how big our specific DIS group is. THey have been to the website, and have commented on what a great group we seem to have.

I think that they issue at hand is the person I was working with didn't give a crap. She was warned at the sizes of the groups, etc, and seems to have put off until the last minute. Now she is on the last Med cruise of the season, so we are the least of her concern.

I sent everything to her associate, and to Autumn at Concierge. Groups replied to me at 1145 that Autumn would be in contact. Well, yeah... Autumn sent me the lists at 1030. So, lesson learned, if you hace access to concierge, enlist their help immediately.

As of now we have ALL PRIVATE DIS tastings. I just have a couple of conflicts that we are trying to resolve. We only had to split one group - Martini as there were 70 of us. So, we are doing well! I will post all that I know tonight.

As for CC. To be honest there isn't a large group over there for this cruise, so I am not sure what they are getting...

You are most welcome!

Not sure whey the change either - but it is what it is. I just appreciated the heads up...

THey take pictures all the time!! There will be no shortage!!

Thanks again for sorting this out. That is really good news that we are getting private tastings after all. I can’t wait to find out all the details.

As for Cruise Critic, we will just have an informal meet at the Promenade Lounge on Sunday afternoon, much the same like we are doing for this thread on the Saturday afternoons. There are no other get togethers planned as far as I am aware.

Lynne, Fantastic time on the half marathon. There's nothing like beating your personal best (not that I would know lately!).

For all of you effected by the dining changes, I hope you get it worked out.

Had a bit of panic last night when I was doing the advance passenger info. Got out DH's passport and it was expired! But he showed me the little note where it had been extended until summer 2011 - by the consul in Serbia. So I'm thinking this may raise a few red flags, and ask if he's traveled out of the country with this passport since then. "Sure!" he says. And shows me the exit Afghanistan/enter and exit Pakistan stamps.

We are so getting detained by passport control.

Is he an American citizen? Then it should not be a problem. In Europe, we are pretty used to people traveling on documents that have been extended. In the USA, there is the stipulation that all passports of non-citizens have to be machine-readable, which would just show as an expired passport as the extension is not reflected in the bar code, but they will always let you back into the country of nationality.

Let me introduce the traveling Ivanna Cruz!

IMGP1115.jpg

WHAT: I've got a challenge for you!
WHO: This is the traveling Ivanna Cruz, complete in her DIS green shirt!
WHERE: She will be placed in my Fish Extender at Stateroom 2004. I'm already on the "Come See Me" list in the DIS Navigator, so when you think about coming to sign my scrapbook page, please see if Ivanna is there, too.
WHEN: All voyage long
WHY: I ask you to take her on an adventure, take a picture of what she was up to, then return her back to my stateroom for her to await another escapade with another one of you crazy characters!

Ivanna likes to have fun, so I trust you'll give her a good time!! ;-)

After the cruise, you can email me the pictures, post them on FB, our group flickr site, or on DISboards.

I hope you play along!
THANK YOU!!!

That sounds like fun. I will definitely come by and make friends with Ivanna.

I just reached my pre-cruise goal weight!!!!! Mind you, I'm no skinny Minnie, but I feel so much better!!!! I have another week to lose a couple more, too!!!! Hu-freaking-rrah!!!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Well done on getting to your goal wait. Now it is just a question of not putting the wait on again.

I'm excited to announce that my new Kindle that DH got me for my birthday finally arrived today! (my birthday was 8/12). So I'll have it for the trip and not have to read on my blackberry the whole time!

Awesome! Thanks for your diligence!

I am glad that your Kindle arrived in time. I don’t know what I would do without my reader.

I just got a Villians dress!!!!:yay::yay:

I am glad that you got your Villains dress and can’t wait to see it.

Is it okay if I wear a villain dress that is really just a fancy Halloween costume?

Actually, that sounds perfect.

Change your DIS Navigators!!!

msclb.jpg

Assuming the new dining schedule is correct, Do NOT remember the date, September 28. Do NOT do this!

:earsboy: Instead, remember DISers are a PERFECT 10!
So we will now wear our shirts on NIGHT 10, aka September 27, aka PJ Breakfast Day. Don't forget your ears! :earboy2:

PS: If there are many objections to Sept 27 due to Palo ressies, we can also consider Night 12, Tortola day.

Thanks for sorting this out. Night 10 sounds perfect.

I sincerely hope that we'll go for rotation 3 with these changes so that we're in Lumiere's for formal nights. It's just not right to get dressed up in a tux and ball gown for PC!

In a funny sort of way, I am rather hoping that I will end up in Parrot Cay for Formal night. For the first 3 cruises I was always in Lumiere’s/ Triton’s for Formal or Dress Up night and on the Med cruise we were in Animator’s Palate on both Formal and Semi-Formal night. So Parrot Cay is the only restaurant that I have never experienced this in.

My parcel that I shipped to Barcelona was delivered to the warehouse today. So now it just has to get to the ship, but that should hopefully be easy. So that is another thing ticked of the list.

I had a look at the DCL website earlier today and there is now category 11C (former category 12) cabins available for the Panama Canal cruise. We still have not made the decision on this. We really want to do this, but even at category 11C this is expensive and the timing is far from ideal for us. Still, I have applied for the leave for this just in case and this has been granted? I am sure we will make the final decision on the cruise.

Graham has been talking about going to the chess club tonight. I really hope that he will. I love him dearly, but I could do with an evening to myself without him getting under my feet. If he does go, I will make myself a nice meal and while this is cooking, I finish the shredding. DH had a sort out of his old documents and I had two bins worth of shredding to do. I am down to about 20 pages so that will be done tonight. After dinner, I will put on a DVD with the Blue Horizons show at Seaworld to see if I can get into vacation mode and work on some of the things on my "To Do" list. It would be nice if I could get this down to single digits before the day is out.

Today is the day for our single digit dance, but I feel more like stomping my feet. I am beyond stressed out. As I type this (on the train on the way to work in the notes on my iPhone), I have 7 shifts ahead of me. During those 7 shifts, I have at least 4 meetings, 3 One to Ones with my team members and 23 calls to assess. I also need to do end of quarter evaluations for 11 team members, organize who is looking after my team in my absence, schedule a team meeting and appraisals for October as well as dealing with all the little crisis that turn up between now and then. At home, I have to have a clear up in our bedroom and our spare bedroom, which have both descended in a state of chaos during the course of the cruise preparations. I start to doubt that I will get everything done. Still, I am sure that all of this will be forgotten once I get my first glimpse of the Magic.

It is not all doom and gloom though. I have two things over the course of the next week that I am very much looking forward to. On Friday is my last proper day off before our vacation and I have a hot stone massage booked at a local spa. This should hopefully help me to relax.

On Sunday, a lot of our team leaders and management are going to one of the UK's biggest theme parks for the day. Sheikra at Busch Gardens and Manta at Seaworld were modelled after rides from this park. I am not really into coasters and thrill rides, but I am sure there will be plenty for me to do and it should be great fun.

Ok, I know you can all beat me with a stick when you see me, but I just have to say this::rotfl2:

Okay, back to the regular disboards and I hope no one hates me!!

Yes - I totally agree. They are more likely to work with a party of 12 or 17 than a party of 500! (I've been a part of a party of 17) Without a doubt we, at about 500 cruisers, are harder to make happy. And, since we didn't all book together, they don't HAVE to bend to us. Now, if you are a party of say 17 and one person does all the bookings, then they will work with that person to make sure it is right. We all booked on our own, all paid seperately and then went out on DIS and became a group. That is their "get out of jail free" card. And, rightly so. Come to think of it I am not sure that one of us could have booked the DIS family with all 150ish cabins... I am not sure DCL would have done that as one large group...

Bottom line though, I still want them to cater to me despite the logic above!!
:rotfl2::rotfl2: None of us will hate you. You are no doubt speaking the truth. But, we prefer to moan about DCL!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Yup!

Hi guys -

just getting last minute details. Which cabin will have the cabin changes posted outside?

Thanks!

Ok, panic has set in. There are six of us traveling. We each have a large duffel bag and they are packed. Each weigh's around 50-60 pounds. We are spending a few days in Barcelona before the cruise... and I'm freaking out over wondering how hard it will be to get from the airport with our big bags to the hotel and then from the hotel to the port. I have this nightmare of a procession of 3 cabs at 50 euro's a pop just to get us from the airport to the hotel!

Also, I read in some travel books that per person, lunch could cost 20 euros/27 dollars. Is that accurate?

Any feedback you can give that would help me calm down over these two issues would be greatly appreciated.

First and foremost, why not get a quote from Barcelona Taxi so you have an idea of what the cost might be for you guys.

For example, here is what they quote me in red below:

Gentlemen:

Would you please quote me what the charge would be from the Barcelona Renaissance hotel to the Le Meridien Hotel leaving 9/17/10 at 8:00 AM for 2 persons with two carry ons and three suitcases?

Thank you,

Noel C. Birkner

Yes, I have heard it can be expensive to eat in Barcleona but you can find less expensive places to eat. Check out these two articles, first eating cheaply in Barcelona and another article on eating cheaply in Barcelona grocery store locations and eating for less.
