I'm sure this might be posted somewhere but booking so late, I have no idea where to find things other than the first page. :confused3 Anyway, DD Lindsay and I are flying out of Newark on the 15th and have a 5 hours lay over in Belgium (hope we can get Belgium waffles in the airport for breakfast and Belgium chocolate - no calories) :rotfl2: Anyway we arrive in BCN around 3 pm on the 16th. Does anyone have any plans to meet up on the 16th? We would love to meet up with some people. :woohoo:

Some personnal info about me - I haven't been on the Disboards:surfweb: much and I know there are old friends :grouphug:(not age wise) that we are looking forward to seeing and making new friends. My mom had Alzheimer's and my DD spent the alot of time with her and watching her especially when I was at work. I got married :lovestruc on the Disney Wonder :bride: one year ago, May 22. Even though everyone said my mom shouldn't go with us, I took her and she was so happy to be at my wedding. :grouphug: In October, DD and I took her with us on a 7 day Magic cruise and she loved it. She was on the last Transatlantic:sail: cruise with us. Anyway, at the age of 92, she passed away on :sad:my first anniversary. :sad1: Then in June, my retina detache:cool2:d and I had emergency surgery and during this time, I booked this cruise and wasn't sure if my doctor would let me travel.:confused3 I got the go ahead. Yesterday I had laser surgery on my good eye to correct some problems that could led to a detached retina in my good eye. We usually go to the MNSSHH but we can't this year because I can't miss more time from work and I'm scheduled for cataract surgery on my bad eye since the retina surgery created a cataract. Anyway, if anyone has any eye problems, don't put it off. Make a doctor's appointment right away and don't play with your eyes. The sight you save can be your own. Okay, enough with the bad stuff.

So as you can see, we had a rough year. I can't begin to tell you how much we are looking forward to and excited to be going on this cruise:banana:. Just want to hang out with people, enjoy our 14th Disney cruise, can't wait to have the drink of the day (everyday:drinking1 ), celebrate our September birthdays:bday: and just have an awesome time:cheer2::dance3:.

Just curious, does anyone know who the CD is?

Can't wait to meet everyone. CYA real soon.

Bev:)

[/QUOTE]Welcome to the cruise Lindsay and Bev!

I am very sorry about the loss of your mother. I am glad you and your DD did get to spend some time with her aboard the Magic.

In addition, you certainly have had some personal health challenges this year!!

If you check the list of who is arriving about the same time as you are, you may find someone who is interested in a tour or a mini DIS meet. See #2 on my list.

To answer one of your questions before I post my welcome post, I understand CD is Brent and the Captain is Thord.

We are Noel and John Birkner from Woodside, California. I am 59 and John is 66. This is our 4th DCL cruise but have cruised many times on other cruise lines.

Other DIS members I am sure will answer more of your questions, so let me give you some general information about our cruise thread.

Be sure you read page one for all the exciting things that are happening on this cruise. Here is a partial list.

1. PM DisneyVegas1 to see if there are any cruise shirts left. Here is the Link to what the the shirts look like. Last post I believe there was 1 AS. If that size don't work for you, you can print a copy of the logo from the transatlantic pirates site and make an iron on tee shirt
2. PM Buckeye Gal with your hotel and flight information, see post #9
3. Decide if you want Mickey Mouse shirts which some of us are wearing to dinner of Sept 28 and if you want to join us to order, see post #1
4. If you want to link your dining ressies, PM Mrs. Mork if you are early or PM Totally Angelic if you are late.
5. Sign up on the roll call and send your pictures to the our cruise website at Transatlantic Pirateswebsite.
6. PM Connie (Con5421) if you would like to purchase a lanyard pin. see post #6.
7. Let mdwoodman know, if you can join the HRC pre cruise meet on 17 September @ 1700. See Post 15.
8. Go to: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...thkey=CJmPqOcK
and put your DIS name at the bottom of the list - then put in the sizes you need for your wristbands (they are a free gift) and fill in any other information you would like to share!
9. If you want to be in the FE please email akblair@charter.net with your family info.
10. PM (Private Message) Sarah (Gismo1554) if you have any special occasions or birthdays that you are celebrating on board so she can put in our personal cruise Navigator.

Hope that gives you a good place to start. Any more questions, please ask away.

Noel

FOR CELIACS AND OTHERS WHO ARE GLUTEN-INTOLERANT

I'm a Celiac, which means I have an auto-immune disease that causes my body to attack itself if I'm exposed to gluten. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. I've been PM'ing with another couple of guests about eating gluten-free (GF) on the Magic, and thought I'd post some information I got from Disney about doing so. There is a thread devoted to this topic, and you can find it here.

Now here's what I found out from Disney:

------------

Because my DW and I have access to Concierge services, I took advantage of that to call and ask questions about GF foods and service on behalf of me and another guest. The Concierge people referred me to Special Services, who were very good, but very cautious (as is appropriate). They spent about half an hour with me, and here's a summary of what they said:

First, if you have a medical condition relating to diet (such as Celiac disease) you can certainly bring dry, packaged foods onboard as long as they are unopened.

Second, because the Magic has been in Europe since April, and has been reprovisioning there, they cannot promise any particular brand of GF foods, such as the Chex breakfast cereals (which I always buy when I'm in the States), but they will have GF crackers, cookies, pasta, waffles, breads, cereals, and they have a pizza crust mix, so can make pizza. They also make GF desserts, but they make them fresh onboard, so what's available depends on what they make. From my own experience, I can tell you that generally speaking, Europe is way ahead of North America in providing GF foods, but they will probably be brands with which you're not familiar.

Third, the key contact for you on all matters relating to food is your dining room head server (like a head waiter who doesn't actually bring your food but supervises service), who acts as the go-between between the kitchen and the dining rooms. Make sure you talk to him/her early on in the cruise, and discuss your needs/wants. Then, with your waitstaff, plan on ordering ahead to the extent possible. When we were on the January 2009 cruise, we ordered the next day's supper a day ahead from the next day's menu. Now I think they are encouraging you to order as much as you can ahead, including breakfast and lunch if possible.

Finally, and the only real bad news, is that they recommend that you take all of your meals in the main dining rooms (Lumiere's, Parrot Cay, Artist's Palette, or Palo's) because they have the most control over the food there. I asked about the other venues, and here's what they said:
1) Buffets – Go to Parrot Cay for lunch on embarkation day and talk to one of the dining room head servers, who will ask a chef to walk you through the selections. After that, "it's best" to avoid buffets, such as Topsiders because another guest might move a spoon, for example, from one dish to another, causing cross-contamination. Since they have no control over that, they discourage eating at the buffets. (I did note, though, that they did not say "don't go." But they did phrase it in such a way that if you go, it's your responsibility, not theirs.)
2) Room service – Not recommended. The rationale was pretty flimsy on this, as they talked about avoiding cross contamination on the trip from the kitchen to the room. Unless they're juggling plates while they walk, I don't know how this would happen. I suspect it's really just a CYA statement.
3) Fast food outlets – Not recommended. Because of the limited food preparation space available in these outlets, the risk of cross-contamination is higher. This actually makes sense.
4) Cookies on Castaway Cay – It depends on the food allergy. The person I talked to didn't know, but said that not all food allergies (intolerances) could be accommodated on CC, and that you should consult with your dining room head server before leaving the ship. If they can't accommodate your dietary requirements on CC, they recommend you return to the ship for lunch ( ugh!).

I know these are not all the answers you were hoping for (me, neither!), but that's what they said. I spent about half an hour on the line with them, and they were very helpful, but they are also very cautious because of the potential for legal liability.

Hope this helps! :flower3:

See You Real Soon!

Some more medical issues.....this group is kind of scary....my DD was admitted to the hospital yesterday....she has a viral infection in her intestine and a serious infection in her colon....they were trying to treat it with antibiotics by mouth but it is beating her up so they put her in the hospital....doctor said she is pretty sick and will be in the hospital through the weekend.....it seems so many of us traveling have some sort of medical problem or tragedy in our lives.....thank God I do not drink......and thank God it is happening now and not 5 weeks from now since she will be staying here and taking care of the house and the pets......
Tom

That sucks! I hope your daughter recovers quickly!

pixiedust: to all of those struggling or have family members struggling with health issues.

No cruise docs or any email replies from TA as of this morning.

I am reading the board but with house guests am finding it hard to keep up with posting.

Hope I have at least posted a welcome post to any new cruisers!!

Any thing I have missed let me know. I have been answering my PM's!!

Just got a photo text from DW Trish with a photo of a FedEx package, wonder what could be in it, Dont think we are expecting anything.....:rotfl:

The sailaway party started in the afternoon, we were at late sitting for dinner and had a window seat in PC and we left port as we ate.

Definitely recommend getting the lobster tails and combining it with the venison on Captain's Gala night for the poshest surf and turf I've had. We have all of the menus photo'ed and can post them if people want to see them.

We did Palo a couple of times and the soufflé is as good as ever :-P

Yes please Menus would be fab! I would love to know what food to expect!

Thanks for confirming the sailaway party!

Further to post by gpb_1 I have written a mini rant regarding BA but not sure where to post it now. Well I say mini - it actually turned out quite long and covers up to embarkation!

Oh please rant away! I would love to hear it!

I don't know if they are allowed or not technically, but Jason and I did have one of the small portable ones on our last TA cruise but were disappointed with it. We got it specifically because they don't want you to have irons in the room(s) and thought the steamer was better but we found it took twice as long to use as an iron.....so I'd say send the shirts out OR plan to do ironing the second you get your luggage.

I do think the no irons rule is a bit odd....I get that they don't want you to have them because you could leave them on and be a fire hazard...but honestly, I never EVER forget to turn off my iron when I'm done using it (and, in fact, my iron shuts off automatically after 15 minutes of not being used)...but Jason yells at me almost every day because I leave my flat iron (for my hair) on in the bathroom getting ready in the morning. I bet if DCL did a survey they'd find way more curling irons and flat irons being left on in staterooms than clt othes irons...and they haven't banned those! :lmao:

Erik, have you gone short for the cruise yet so you don't have to bring your flat iron this time?!

Mike was growing out his hair for a while. I would've loved the Denis Leary/Rescue Me look. Sadly, it turned more into the John Travolta/Swordfish look. He's back to short now. Phew.

:teeth: My new pup, Fred (well, not so new - he's 8 months old now) barks at everything - footsteps on the gravel drive; doorbell; even the phone!!! Which is fab from a security point of view BUT drives me crazy - especially as he sets the others off too!!!

However, I've made sure I'm in charge today tho' - we've had a chat ;) and there will be NO pointless barking... :rolleyes1

Good man!!!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I have had that chat every day for the last 6 years. She nods her head and wags her tail. Not 5 minutes later she has forgotten. But hide a snack or toy from her she knows exactly where it is 8 hours later. Yup, she is constantly barking at the door bell she hears on TV. Funny thing is she walks out of the TV room no barking and then goes to the door and barks. :rotfl::rotfl:

Sorry I'm part of the confussing bunch. Ours is because when we booked Dan wasn't living with me so I put him down as one address and me as another. i have never changed this since we moved in (and in fact I am still down as my Mum's address) so we got seperate documents. Scared Dan mind as it says he's doing the Rock Tour on his own lol! If you are down as the same address youll just get the one lot!

Thanks, Sarah. That makes sense.

Rene

Guess what we got !!!!!!!!!!!!

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Tony and I are sooooooo excited !!!!!!!
I bet you are!!!!

Hi Bev. Sounds like this cruise is going to be just what you need after a tough year. Look forward to meeting you and Lindsay onboard!!!
Best wishes, Karen x :flower3:

No, the one with the early reservation was Coco Rio. We had dismissed La Cantina as a few people were very vocal that they did not want to eat there. Of course, the sweet irony was that none of them were actually there for dinner on the Saturday night in the end. Still, there are no hard feelings here. I reckon we got the best of both worlds. I really enjoyed the meal at La Regatta and we got the bonus lunch at La Cantina with some fabulous company.

Corinna
Oh yes!! I'd forgotten that... I think we absolutely got the best of both worlds... ::yes::

Ive worked it out, it took 4 hours but It didnt beat me:rotfl:
Well done!!! :thumbsup2 I'm completely inept if not using a Mac so thought it best not to offer any suggestions...

Bev you definately need this trip! This will be our 3rd cruise with you! Can't believe we're on number 3!

As for your Mum, we lost my Nan earlier this year. She has had Altziemers for a few years now and it was very hard on all of us when she went, especially as Mum has been her carer for the past few years. Its hard but you have to hold on to the fact that you made your Mum happy and looked after her!

Oh and CD is Brent

That's really great information, thank you. :goodvibes I'm pretty good at self-managing but the whole 'cross-contamination buffet thing' wouldn't have occurred to me... Thanks again..

BearFan is in the Coconut FE list, but hasn't updated a room number. I can't find any posts from them so I'm not sure if they're still sailing or not. Can anyone confirm?

Also, I was looking at some of the names signed up on the rollcall, and saw a couple of people on the roll call still who canceled.
- CA Crusin' canceled in May since she'll be in Nursing school
- KellyJeanDVC also canceled in May for other reasons

There were also some other names on the WBTA website that haven't posted here and aren't listed anywhere else. Any one know if these folks will be on the ship with us?

- bsaffle - Can't find any posts by this user but they are on the website
- CarsFans - Are on the website and lanyard list, but I can't find any posts
- DDuckFan - Can't find any posts
- djrok212 - Was on the EBTA, hasn't posted on boards since April
- mousemansion - posted in the 9/11 WBTA thread. Both places said this will be their 6th cruise. Was wondering if they got the two crossings confused?
- The Diswolds - hasn't updated room assignment
- Woody2 - can't find this user
