Just got a reply from Daniel's Taxi's. My itinerary from TA saws 10:30, so anyone can correct me if I have incorrect info.

I am advocating paying our part on Paypal while the Euro versus the dollar is so low. I suspect the Euro is going to go up pretty soon and I am trying to prepay things as much as possible.

For everyone who PM'd me, I will send a separate PM as soon as I know the per price costs.

As you can see, van has room for 15, so anyone else interested, please let me know.

Dear Noel,

Thank you for much for the interest shown in us.

I’m sorry I didn’t answer you sooner, things are a bit on the hectic side around here lately.

Yes, we’ll be very pleased to provide accommodation for your group’s tour in Madeira. We have 15 and 16 passenger mini buses, so, as you are 10 at the moment, you can still accept some more people in your group, if you wish. In case you don’t have the intention of increasing your group, maybe Daniel will send you a 6 passenger taxi-van, plus a 4 passenger taxi.

Noel, your fellow cruisers have been telling us your cruise ship is expected to dock in Funchal at 8:30am. As you now mention 10:30am, please check again, so that I can work out your tour’s itinerary and how much we’ll be charging you and as it will depend on your availability of time, of course.

For small groups we charge per taxi, but for groups as big as yours, we charge per person.

Yes, we’re only accepting Euros now, because banks aren’t receiving dollars any more. We can’t accept payment by credit card either, because vehicles don’t have payment devices. In case you don’t bring any Euros, your driver will gladly take you to an ATM.

As we don’t charge in advance, we never received any payments by Paypal, however, as we’re always trying to please our customers, if you prefer to prepay by Paypal, I’ll have a word with Daniel about it. He already has a Paypal account, so maybe he’ll agree.

For the moment, please try to make sure whether Disney Magic is arriving at 8:30am or 10:30am. It could be happening that you are mistaking the arrival time in our port with the arrival in some other port. I had a look on Madeira ports’ website, but Disney Magic is not listed there, so I can’t help you either.

Looking forward to your answer.

Greetings,

Eusébia.

My concern about pre-payment would be how would we get a refund if needed. What if we don't make port? I understand wanting to take advantage of the exchange rate, so I plan on getting some Euro from my bank soon and then taking it with me.

I would assume it would be easier to get a paypay refund than a credit card one.

Just my thoughts...

Interestingly, when I spoke to DCL, they told me the ship will dock at 6:00 AM and be cleared to disembark by 7:30 AM.

I think 8:30 would be reasonable to start touring.

Just my thoughts.

On the 2005 EB Panama Canal cruise, we prepaid for an independent tour at Cabo San Lucas. The morning we were supposed to arrive, the weather caused the captain to divert the ship to another port.

Despite many emails and international calls to the tour company about a refund -- and despite their promises to refund our money -- we never received a refund.

Now, I never pre-pay for an independent tour or hotel unless it's absolutely necessary.

If you pay at the end, there's an incentive for the tour operator or hotelier to make sure you're satisfied.

My two cents.

Woody

It is actually surprisingly heavy. I just tried it on and it is utterly gorgeous. I do understand now though why royalty needs people to dress them. I took me the best part of 30 minutes to put it on and lace up the bodice. The good news is that it really does not need a petticoat even though it was suggested in the listing. It is falling beautifully just on its own.

Corinna

Your dress is beautiful!!

Thanks Woody, I think you have a valid point.

I can appreciate your concerns about prepaying for a tour. May I respectfully point out you are speaking about a tour in Mexico versus one in Europe. Also, I assume you used a credit card and not Paypal.

I have had a lot of experience with Paypal versus credit card. I think it is much easier to get a refund through them than a credit card. It is just my experience.

The tour I am advocating we take in Madeira has received much praise from other cruisers on Cruise Critic.

I am not advocating everyone do this. If I am the only one to do this, I am sure it will be fine and they will take my payment as a deposit.

I do know we had to prepay for our Flamenco dinner in Europe through Papal. We are also prepaying for other things in Barcelona now so we get better rates on the internet.

I just want to take advantage as much as possible with the Euro being so low now.

Docking in Gibralter

Interestingly, when I spoke to DCL, they told me the ship will dock at 6:00 AM and be cleared to disembark by 7:30 AM.

I think 8:30 would be reasonable to start touring.

:surfweb:

In an effort to avoid confusion with all the choices we have on excursions in various ports, Gibralter does have the schedule of 7:30am - 6:00 pm.

However, the tour I *think* you are referring to, Noel, is Daniel's Taxi, right? That's in Madeira, with a docking/get off time of 8:30 am until 9:30 pm. Maybe you were referring to one of the Gibralter tours, but since there were so many posts about the Madeira disembark time and Daniel's Taxi, I wanted to make sure *I* am clear! :rotfl:

Yes, I am referring to Daniel's Taxi in Madeira. I was told by DCL that we will dock at 6:00 Am, be cleared for disembarking by 7:30 and depart by 6:00 PM. So I am assuming we need to be back on board by 5:30 PM????

By prepaying on Paypal, I avoid any fees as money is coming directly from my checking account.

I also have a Paypal credit card if I want to charge. I pay in full every month so I don't have any fees.

Okay! Just checking because the title of your post stated Gibraltar had that docking/disembark time, which happens to match what I see to be the time for Gibraltar. :)

On the DCL website, it says embarkation time for Madeira is 9:30 pm.

I am not going to put any more titles on threads!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I did put wrong title on the thread but I was speaking of Madeira. I am going to call DCL back as I think I was given wrong info for Madeira and want to be sure. While I have them on the phone, I am going to ask about Gibraltar.

Stay tuned.

Noel
