We did the Rock Tour, saw the caves.....he brought us back to town and dropped us off so we could shop. We went from one end to the other and had plenty of time to sightsee, shop and eat. It was about a 20 minute walk back to the ship. I asked Laura and she thinks we paid about $35. We went on the WBTA solo in 2007. This year our DH's will be with us, so we are going to take them on the same tour.

So if I understand you correctly, you paid $35 Euro for the taxi, then you add admission charge to the Caves etc. Am I missing any other expenses?

Disney is charging $155 for a similar thing. With 5 people the difference is pretty steep. If it were just DH and I we would likely save the hassle and take the DCL excursion. It's just hard on families to absorb that difference. I certainly don't judge folks who afford the DCL excursions...

just thought I'd share my planning so far!

HEY Terapin,

I think you and several other DISers have really helped to show some of the options open to people how have decided not to book DCL tours.

I certainly plan to do most of the ports on my own to try and keep the cost down a little and certainly like the sound of the tour you've put together here.

Please keep all the ideas coming everyone. It really is very appreciated.

Your itinerary is exactly what I asked for in my email.

I already have ressies for 16:30 but if enough are interested, I would be happy to find out. DD was 16 and was offered wine in Europe so can't imagine he couldn't go. However, you could email Rita Azevedo at the Old Blandy's at pubrel@madeirawinecompany.com and ask for sure.

I don't expect an issue. DS will only be 15, but he's already 6'2" and 225lbs so no one would suspect that he shouldn't be there. Besides he'll probably grow another 3 or 4 inches over the summer :rotfl:

Lyn, Leonard, get Len, Lenny and Les(can someone explain that to me?)
I am the only one that doesnt shorten it.:confused3
He does however get substitutes:laughing:

Sue, I will try and make a payment, my cc details were stolen and paypal acc stopped,:headache: watch this space.

I had a horrible day today, beagle girl ran away when we were up the forest, I hung around for an hour then ran home, then dumped beagle boy, grabbed mobile and push bike then started looking for her, I called Len in tears when he came home for lunch and the little witch had taken herself home,
Lucky we live on the edge of the forest with no roads, bloomin beagles, who would have them? thats them on the leads for at least a month!

AWw.. Same feeling with me. We have Cairn girl.age 7.5 months. She exact same as our last cairn girl...RIP age 16.5 :lovestruc
I remember chasing last cairn girl in my nightie and nothing else...over gardens and fences..........late at night..:scared1::rotfl2:
No way off lead...call and they deaf!
New baby dog cairn...not to be trusted any better than Beagles...lol! They should meet up....!

PRIVATE TORTOLA ISLAND TOUR

Welcome to Tortola, the largest and most populated of the British Virgin Islands.

On this tour you will:
• Cane Garden Bay
• J.R. O’Neal Botanic Gardens
• Fort Hill, Ridge Road
• Pass Long Trench village & Fahie Hill
• Mount Healthy windmill
• Beach/snack time

Begin with a scenic island drive through beautiful Tortola. Your tour takes you through the busy business center of Road Town for a visit to the J.R. O’Neal Botanic Gardens, where approximately 30 minutes is allowed for strolling in the gardens.

Then travel up Fort Hill to the Ridge Road, where the route passes through the local villages of Long Trench and Fahie Hill. Visit one of the more intact remainders of the era of "King Sugar" – Mount Healthy windmill, where you will get a chance to wander around the ruins and look at the surrounding views. Continue along the ridge before arriving at Sky World, where you will stop for souvenir shopping and a chance to admire the fabulous view of the surrounding islands from the observation deck.

It's time to experience one of Tortola's biggest assets - its beaches. You will pay a visit to Cane Garden Bay on Tortola's north shore, well known as one of the Caribbean's top 10 beaches. Surrounding islands mean that the sea is calm here most of the time, and you will enjoy soaking in the lovely Caribbean sun and great atmosphere. You will enjoy a complimentary drink as you dig your toes in the sand for almost an hour.

Re-board your vehicle and continue along the ridge for still more views before descending the Doty New Road to the North Shore line. The route follows the shore line passing through several small fishing villages before crossing the island over Zion Hill. Make a stop at the Old Government House Museum, where you will take a guided tour of the residence of previous British Governors.

At the end of the tour, the driver will return you to the cruise pier. However, he will be free to take those interested in getting back to the beach to Cane Garden Bay - AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE. If you want to do this, please arrange it with your driver in advance, and also arrange a pick up time for your return transfer to the pier. You can pay him directly for the extra transfer service.

At the beach, you can rent anything and everything. This beach has several bars and restaurants with restrooms, food, and chairs and umbrellas to rent. There are also beach concessions renting out beach toys such as jet skis.

Afterwards, you will be transferred back to the pier and your cruise ship.

He sounds like one of my two nephews who played football at De la Salle in Concord!!

It must be so hard to tell people they have lost their furbabies. I hope the good parts of your job make up for these hard times.

Just my thoughts...

We hope to book this one too :thumbsup2

Last time I was in Tortola ( 1990 ) I was working on the Royal Princess cruise ship and most of the crew didn't get any further than the Pussers Rum Bar :rotfl: where we encountered a bunch of British Royal Navy chaps on shore leave. Very entertaining.

Sarah,
It took me a bit to find this post (I remembered reading it in my e-mail updates) but I didn't realize you worked for Princess Cruises! I was with them for almost 4 years working shoreside in Los Angeles in the late '90s and through 2001. Still have lots of contacts both over here as well as in Southampton. Those were fun days.....

Best Flamenco in Barcelona
Enjoy an authentic experience in a wonderful setting

Enjoy a very special evening combining the best of the Spanish cuisine with an authentic and professional Flamenco. The dinner and drinks take place in a special dinning room next to the show stage in a setting called Tablao (the dinner and show are both in the same place).

'Flamenco Tablaos' are small cafe-style places descended from the so called 'singing cafes'. The Flamenco Tablao is the perfect place to appreciate the intimate art form of the Flamenco.

At the Tablao Cordobes, one of the most important Tablao Flamenco places in Spain, you can enjoy an authentic Flamenco show and a dinner buffet. Tablao Cordobes has gained international recognition and is a member of Tourism Barcelona.

There are 3 nightly shows to choose from:

I absolutely LOVED this job. I was the admin assistant to the VP for the medical department. We were in charge of scheduling the doctors and nurses for both the US Fleet and P&O Cruises in the UK as well as working with budgets and preparation for all the newbuilds that were coming out. I loved it so much that even though my day wasn't supposed to begin until 8:00 a.m. I was usually there at 6:30 or so so that I could call the office in the UK and we'd chat up a storm.

The boss was a bit, well, I guess "questionable in people skills" would be the nice way to describe it. I could do no wrong in his eyes (STOP LAUGHING!!!!) as I sized him up the moment I met him as someone whom I would NEVER want to be on his bad side. Yes, sir; no, sir; of COURSE I can do that, sir! (Hmmmmmm..........maybe THAT'S what they meant by brown-nosing...) All of his other assistants lasted a couple weeks at the most; I outlasted him and continued on to HIS replacement!

Alas, when another large company acquired Princess and P&O (they shall remain nameless - but their initials are Carnival Cruise Line) things just didn't continue in the same vein.....

Ah, well, life is still good! (and we can still do Friends and Family cruises with Princess - gotta love a deal!)

This sounds fun!! Did you guys already book it?

I have only asked for a quote. If you guys are interested or anyone else, please let me know and I will add people to the ressie.

We will probably have to give a small deposit but I will let everyone know what that would be.

Let me know.
