Hi

I am Trudy and this is my first cruise with Disney, in fact my very first cruise anywhere. I am very excited!! I am traveling with my DD Carolynn, my SIL Paul and 3 wonderful grandchildren Kai, Taryn and Alden. I am a little nervous about such a long cruise as my first so I am thinking of taking a small Disney Caribbean cruise just to get my sea legs.

I am 62 and mother to three terrific kids and nanna to nine of the best grandchildren anyone could have. I lost my husband three years ago and my family has been wonderfully supportive and loving.

I love to sing (with a Sweet Adeline chorus and in a quartet - I am a bodacious Bari), garden, swim, work out at Curves and swim.

Anyway I am looking forward to meeting you all. Trudy :grouphug:

Welcome Trudy! You will have a wonderful time on the cruise! So many other folks on the cruise have been on previous TA cruises so if you have questions, just ask away! We are a friendly bunch!

Hmm, let's see...

Gerald (49) and I (41, today actually) met at work in 1991 and got married in 1992. We have three beautiful children (14, 9 and 7) who will be staying home with Grandma and Grandpa while we are on this cruise! :) It will be strange not to have them with us. This is the first trip we've taken without the kids.

Krista

Happy Birthday!!!!!!!

Love reading all of your introductions - so while I am having my lunch here goes mine....

I am Johanna and I will be 35 when we cruise. I am single (and availble for set-ups) :lmao:. This will be my 6th cruise (5th will be the 10 night prior). I will be rooming with Kimmy (OCD for WD) who I met on my last cruise (Eastbound Panama Canal) who is also single (37 when we cruise). We will also be cruising with 2 other single women we met on the EBPC - Melody & Georgiana (mid-50's) who will be rooming together.

I live and work in San Francisco as an Executive Assistant in Private Equity. I feel like I am married to my work - which was part of the reason I am still single. I like to travel, go out to eat (SF has me very spoiled), drink wine (or Cider and have been know to toss a few cocktails back too) and love Disney - so DCL is perfect. I am also a closet musician (would have loved to have majored in music performance, but then would not be able to do this trip). I am part of the San Francisco Renegades Drum and Bugle Corps to get my performance fixes, but taking this year off to go on vacation.

I hope to take my first retirement  at 40 and move to Orlando, FL and either work for Disney or find a job that can support my habit. Think annual passport and visiting in evenings and/or weekends, espcially during the food and wine festival and those FL resident rates on DCL.

No furkids anymore - had to put down Buddy (12 year old cat) right before the New Year and his sister Tiger about 2 years earlier. I however see more in my future but not till after this vacation and see how broke I am.

I have been keeping track of money saved by clipping coupons for the grocery store, passing on getting mani/pedi's, eating in vs. out, etc. and plan to use that as spending/excursion money.

Looking forward to meeting you all and buring calories on the dance floor and all the stairs. It takes me a while to let my hair down, but with the 10 day prior I should be good to go for this trip. Now getting back to work mode after may be a problem. 6.5 months to go and counting!

:cool1::cool1: OMG! OMG! OMG! :cool1::cool1:

I have been reading over the last few weeks/months about how some 2010 WBTA guests from the US and UK have received letters from DCL stating that each member of their stateroom party has been given USD$100 shipboard credit.
:banana::banana::banana:

Well, I received the letter in the mail today Whohoo!:yay::yay::yay:

I am soooooo rapt. I never expected it to come all the way Down Under.

(It's my birthday on Sunday, what a great surprise gift!) :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

YIPPEE EYAH!!!

I'm so jealous. We never got any letter and our Travel Agent says it's because we already have the onboard booking credit and they will only let us have one credit...even though we're greedy...so now we just have to hope that one or both of our cruises drops in price as it gets closer. Honestly, the last 10 night Med seems not to be that well sold....there's almost nobody on that thread and there aren't that many of us on the B2B...and it's at a hard time of year for US families to travel....so I half expected that price to drop already.....and then this cruise so many people have dropped off of it to join other cruises I thought they'd drop this one, too....but oh well. Thank heavens we weren't counting on price drops to be able to pay for the trip!!! (but I'm still hoping for a last minute rebate!):lmao:

That not true. We book our staterooms on a previous cruise and have the $200 booking on board credit. Then moved it to a TA and got another credit. We also got the letter from Disney for the $100 credit for each person. So you can have multiple credits. I think it goes by when you booked. We book the first day available.

Stephen

The one good thing about not having a job right now is that I can watch the Olympics. Love Curling!!!! It is Shuffleboard on crack!!! :lmao:

What is the date on the letter?

:cutie:

The letter is dated December 2009. There is no indication when it was actually posted but it was sent international priority airmail from Miami. :confused3

So did we....we had our deposit processed 20 minutes after the itineraries went on sale....and we bought the last med AND the TA :confused3:confused3

This is on my list to try and do before the cruise... Not sure Glenn or the kids will want to though...

Maybe we need to get the girls together for a chocolate meet up before the cruise? I would LOVE to do a chocolate tour. I did some googling and found some amazing places to visit.

Our Story:
My name is Dan and I am a Disney addict. My parents took me every year throughout the 70’s and when I got to go for senior trip in 1986, I was our group’s unofficial tour guide. I am married to my beautiful wife Cheryl and we have son Daniel who is 6. We too love pets and have 3 cats (Eeyore, Goofy and Cinderella) and 1 Dog (Disney). Cheryl and I met when we were 15 through a mutual friend. She became part of my group of friends and we wound up throwing her a 16th birthday party. We started dating after high school, and we got engaged a couple years later. We drove to Florida from NJ for Cheryl’s first trip to Walt Disney World on a shoestring budget. When we were married 4 years later we honeymooned at the Wilderness lodge and I had her hooked too. From then on we’ve been going back every year. Our son has been there since he was 4 months old, but we believe he started out there as our little souvenir.:rolleyes1 On Oct 1st we will be celebrating our 15th anniversary on Castaway Cay!
Not sure what special event to book for that day but open for suggestions. I was thinking Palo for dinner, but not sure.:confused3
Exotic rassul.:thumbsup2, some alons time was nice for us.

We are also Disney nuts. We've been DVC members since early 1998. All of our vacations involve either going to WDW or cruising on DCL.

Gerald is a software engineer and I work for the State of Minnesota.

We are looking forward to getting to know everyone. Just think, we leave 7 months from today!

HI Trudi - welcome aboard :goodvibes My DD is also Taryn ... she is 19 and not cruising with us because of University commitments. There is another Taryn cruising though, It is a very unusual name here in the UK, and DD likes it that way.

Good morning from Wales ... we have a sprinkling of snow this morning :scared1:

First day of 13 days off work today and it sure feels good :goodvibes

It is DD Taryn's birthday ... she is 19 today .... and we are all going out for an Indian meal to celebrate this evening. Unfortunately poor DS Danny has tonsilitis and is very under the weather:sick::sick::sick: so we will have to see if he feel up to it later.

Just 6 days until we go to France for a long weekend skiing ... should be interesting :rotfl::rotfl::laughing::laughing:

Oh and I forgot an important countdown yesterday ........

7 MONTHS TO GO !!!!!

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Glad you got something sorted.

Love the olympics, everything!!!!

Sweet 19:goodvibes:goodvibes

Mens, snowboarding:scared1: brilliant.
Downhill, brilliant, figure skating, brilliant, speed skating brilliant.
I just love sports, esp winter.
DONT like the sledging, or whatever it is you call it these days.

LOL I was loving the snowboarding! Its rules!

For those of you that have travelled in Europe before, specifically Barcelona. Do you think a slash-proof bag is necessary?? The best one I found is $80. That's a little high for a small backpack, especially 'cause I already have a small backpack, but I will have my dslr in it. What do you guys think?

Necessary?

The bag I'm looking into is the Pacsafe TourSafe Sling/Backpack. It is slash-proof & also has hidden zippers to protect from pick-pocketing.

Also, pacsafe has a slash-proof camera strap. Do you think this is also necessary? I've read so much about the pick-pocketing. It has me worried.

TIA :grouphug:

I wouldn't bother. Your worrying far too much. Just be careful, dont carry too much with you and don't flash money around! Youll be fine I'm sure!

Aren't they fun to watch!

Yes, it was the sleeves that were a problem the second time we rented as well.

Will have to watch that! Dan has long-long sleeve shirts as his torssos quite long so gonna have to make sure we measure everything twice lol

Hi Everybody,

Well, we made a decision last night that we didn't want to have to do, but we have to face reality. We can't do this cruise. Money has gotten tight. My work is down to just about nothing so I am basically unemployed and being self employed, not able to collect unemployment. We just bought a vacation home in Florida and hopefully that will start generating some income, but with the construction industry being what it is here in CA, we don't see my business picking up anytime soon. My DH had to use some of his vacation to help get the Florida house up and running so vacation time for him is tight too.

It's been nice meeting a few of you and chatting with many. I am always in awe of how helpful and friendly everyone on the DisBoards seems to be and this Thread is no different. Our ships will pass again I am sure.

Bon Voyage,
Linda

Linda I am sure that the decision is right for you guys!
