Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Wendy,

We leave MCI @ 7:25 on Friday morning & we leave MCO @ 12:30.... we'll have 4 sleepy heads on the flight out! (Comfort Inn in Platte City) We're planning on staying at an airport hotel Thursday night & doing the "Park & Fly" program. Since we'll have to drive 2 1/2 hours from Manhattan!! See ya on the plane!!

Jen, the shirt looks great. Basting, huh? Well, I can baste a turkey, but my sewing skills are nonexistent. Every button I ever sew on is off within a day. :o

Oh, we got our Magical Express tags yesterday. Yay... so we are good to go, document-wise. Just need to fill stuff out.

Wishing we had cable so I could watch the Weather Channel.

Oh, and before I forget... Welcome Melissa!

Time to get kids in bed; we were all up way too late last night.

Karen

Susan, what is the cost for Comfort Inn, if you know? We are 3 hours away. We would probably leave around 2:30 am. I'm just thinking that it may be easier since it is just the 3 of us to leave from home. Plus, I have a 6:30 pedicure so we couldn't leave until late Thursday night...and it's not like I'll be able to sleep anyway. How does the park and fly program work?

OK, I really am off to bed...I mean, my workout. Shoot. Forgot I need to do that. Geeze. Fine.

Hello! Karen your sewing skills decribe mine perfectly. If I sew on a button it has such a thick clump of thread on the back that it won't lay flat. Dh has to do all the repair jobs or I take them to a local alteration shop. I have long ago given up on sewing. Wendy I will let you know how the space bags work out. Hopefully they will help me get it all crammed in. Jenny your count was right I need one info sheet. I hope that the hurricane's stay away for awhile now. Jen, I feel for your friend in Miss. I was watching the news earlier and they were interviewing a woman who was riding out the hurricane in a shrimping boat anchored to a pier! She had her 3 yo daughter with her. She said she cannot "afford" to leave her boat there! Shouldn't that type of ignorance be illegal??? She has been warned by the police that she should evacuate. Oh well enough ranting..Donna

$79.95 which includes the parking for the week. You take the shuttle to & from the airport.

We could meet the night before!!! Take the kids swimming at the pool!!

Good morning all! We had a heck of a storm around 3:30 am! I normally sleep right through storms...but not this one! DH got up to check all the doors and windows it was raining and blowing so hard...I am pretty sure it was hailing as well! I could not imagine living where it will actually hit! I turned on the Weather Channel and saw that Katrina was about to hit Gulfport around 5 or 6am...have not looked at the news yet this am...hope it calmed before it hit! This is the last week the pool is open and from the looks of it...we won't be going to the pool much this week! Hopefully it is nice for the weekend so we can get our pool fill in for the winter :sunny:

I can't believe we down to less than three weeks! I sooooooooooooo can't wait for the cruise! This is the first vacation we have taken with all of us...our family, mom(Sillymemaw) and DSis's(KSUMom) family! I know mom is very excited about going with all of her grandchildren! I am excited to have her to babysit! We paid her way...so we would not have to put DS(1) in the nursery when we DH and I wanted to do things without kids    We have to be at the airport at 5am as well...at least we are only about 20 miles from the airport!

Gotta get some work done :badpc:

Lisa & Susan, you guys are so lucky to have such a great mom. You ALL are going to have a great trip. Susan, the Comfort Inn sounds like a great deal -- we wouldn't be able to leave Joplin until abt 9pm or so. No swimming that day but wouldn't that be fun? I'm on the fence b/c it would be one more "hauling" of suitcases, etc. And I always thoroughly unpack my car when at a hotel due to a bad experience years ago, moving home from Miami, when I was "wiped out" as they say. I"ll see what DH says. Gotta get to work. Be back later.

We do have a great mom! If it wasn't for her, DH and I would not get to do as much running as we do! She watched the kids while we went to Hawaii last October for two weeks...she watched the kids while we went to Chicago for the Blues Festival in June...she is watching the kids when we go to Vages in November! I have been able to do alot of traveling alone and with friends (without the children) because I have such a wonderful mom! Paying her way on the Cruise was the least we could do for her :goodvibes Friday nights are date nights for me and DH...mom watches the kids almost every Friday night :cheer2: :cheer2:

Well, I've pretty much been glued to the tv regarding this hurricane. I guess I really am my mother's daughter - she ALWAYS watches the news a lot when big things happen (Oklahoma City, 9/11, Columbine - I watched that one too - the Natalee Holloway case, etc). I guess part of it is curiosity - I wonder how fast 155 mph winds are, and I am praying the superdome holds. Some houses in New Orleans are flooded to the ceilings! And Donna, I TOTALLY I agree with you about stupid decisions to "ride this out" such as hanging out in a boat - what!?!?!?! - and a group of kids last night in N.O. who went SURFING! Geeminy Christmas (my frequent exclamation of disbelief), I really wonder about people. I suppose that would be a thrill, but come on! That's what the rides at WDW are for!

Emily, are you okay??? I heard it's heading also for Alabama and you haven't chimed in today. And also Tammy and Karen (D), are you okay?

I got the update for Wendy, John, Brad, and Lorra. I think that's everyone. But don't worry - I pull up the count document and update as I read the thread.

I will pass on everyone's good wishes to Melissa. I'll especially be sure to let her know, as Wendy said, how attached to me you all are! :teeth:

I am going to call about my passport application today. It takes 4-6 weeks, and a week from this Friday is week 6, so that makes this nearly 5 weeks. I think it's safe to call now.

Anything else? Oh, no docs here, but our TA is enjoying Alaska presently so hat's not unexpected.

For a refresher, here's the people who have NOT confirmed the cabin count, which is for the DIS reminder sheets being made:

Brad, what an appropriate verse of Scripture. God truly provides comfort for all things. :goodvibes

Jenny, yeah we're okay. May get a little rough here later though. Rains off and on. We're in north Alabama, up near the Tenn. state line. I think by the time the major storms reach here, its still supposed to be a tropical storm. Right now, things are overcast and kind of like the calm before the storm. Your count for us is right.

Later everyone,
Emily

Jen (and Mike)
Read this with the assortment of accents you hear in the dinning room on the cruise: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO YOU, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO YOU, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO YOU!!!!!!!!!
Hope you guys have a great day. Your shirt looks great!

Sue- Glad to hear you are doing well.
Melissa-Great to hear from you and looking forward to meeting you soon.
Newcomer(s)- So happy you joined in.

It looks like we may get some residule rain from Katrina which is good for us but bad for the Gulf Coast. I hope Katrina passes through quickly with as little damage as possible.
Thats all for now.

Hey Jen and Mike - are you holdin' out on YOUR personal info here? Huh? HUH?

Happy anniversary folks! I hope the day is great for you. Sorry it fell on a Monday.

I've been enjoying the sounds of Disney music from the movies, the parks, parades, resorts, etc. this morning! How fun! :)

Called on the passport - it was mailed on Friday! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :cool1: :moped: So I should get it maybe today or tomorrow, but that's one less thing I have to worry about now. And I got a cheerful government official, which was a nice start to the day as well! :)

Just wanted to do my mini-doc dance since the passport is important and I can't dance about the cruise docs yet (for clarification, we do NOT need passports yet; I just applied and of course had to send in my BC, so I was going to be in trouble if I was without a passport AND a BC by cruise time).

Anyways, hope everyone is doing well. Katrina is down to a category 3 - that's certainly an answer to prayer! :)

Happy Anniversay Jen and Mike :love2: hope you've made some special plans...even if it has to wait till the weekend
Emily, I hope the weather stays calm for you up there, take special care. :goodvibes
Lisa you do have a GREAT MOM!!! :wizard:
Jenny, Good news about our passport!!  (did you get my mulitude of pm's?) I goofed so many times.. :earseek:
Everyone have a GREAT DAY!!! :flower:

Forgive me if this has been discussed but I was just wondering if maybe we should have a DIS meet backup plan in case of bad weather. If it happens to be storming we could meet in the Promenade Lounge at 3:00 instead of at the pool. Hoping for sunshine but you never know...

Jenny your count is right for us.

Happy Monday...

Glad to hear that everyone here seems to be faring OK with the storms so far..My prayers go out to anyone whose families/loved ones are in the thick of it. :grouphug:

Melissa...I'll join the rest and welcome you officially to the group. We've heard lots of great stuff about you, and it was nice of you to pop on here and introduce yourself!

Jenny, I am so sorry. I am barely able to keep up with this thread, and I missed the sign count posts until today. You can count my group as one. I'm not sure how much of the DIS stuff the other guys are going to do. And Jen and I are going to be at the initial meet, and I would love to make it to SweetSues's BDay bash, but other than that, I'm not certain how much of the other stuff we'll be at either. But I'm going to do my darndest!! :)

I can'tbeileve that we are down to less than 20 days! :cool1:  :cool1:
(of course, I haven't seen an "OFFICIAL" chime lately...ahem!! )

Jen-your tie die shirts are AWESOME!!! You could sell those! They're so cute!

Anywho...it's about time I get some work done. Between catching up on posts and then actually posting myself, I've wasted away an entire Monday morning! (Ok, so that's maybe not such a bad thing...but my boss may not agree!!! :earseek: LOL)

Take care, and have a safe and happy monday afternoon...

Hi guys!

Wendy, I meant to say I'm glad you were able to enjoy the lake this weekend. I'm sure it's very special to your DD to get some "mommy and me" time together. :)

Donna, I got your verification. Thanks ever so much. :teeth: And I agree about the back-up meet location. I think the Promenade Lounge on deck 3 - ONLY IN CASE OF INCLIMATE WEATHER (just being clear to avoid confusion :teeth: ) - is a great idea. Good thinkin'!

Lastly, I need ideas for a special gift to be awaiting DSis upon arrival to the stateroom. Don't worry - she won't be reading the rest of these threads (but I do tell her when someone welcomes her or says something directed to her) and I am going to remind her to take off her notification reminder to be sneaky. :) So even if she does check back, she'll never read this far back! :)
Anyways, I am considering the chocolates DCL provides - either the chocolate roses or the chocolate tower. I'm not sure - a big basket would be nice, but she doesn't really use bath gels. I thought about getting her a baby-themed basket, but I want to save these kinds of things for when the referral for the baby comes. Honestly, she loves books, so a book gift basket would probably be the most enjoyable to her! And a basket would be hard to take home.... So I'm thinking either the flowers or the chocolates from DCL. The spa gift from DCL comes in a Mickey shaped basket, so that's fun, but again, would she use those? The shower gel but that's probably it. And btw, she's not a jewelry person. Anyways, suggestions are welcomed! :)

Tammy, no worries - I only got one PM. :)

ETA: Anyone still waiting on stateroom numbers? And Christal, I'll put you down for one reminder sign. We understand we'll all get caught up in stuff and want to plan other things - but we DO hope we see everyone at least at the first meet. Then, we'll do our best to restrain ourselves from tackling you in the halls when we see you.
We really will try, but it will be hard.
But we'll try.
But it will be hard.
But we'll try.
But, um, yeah, a little hard.
Ahem.

We got our cruise docs today :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:   :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I am sure mom (sillymemaw) will be over tonight to get hers since they cam to our house :goodvibes She has been asking me everyday since we knew they were on their way :earseek:

Susan, Sorry about you having to go to all those walmarts to no avail. You probably think I am a compulsive Walmart lier :rotfl2: I went to a different Walmart this morning and they had them there also. Sorry!
Thanks for the anniversary wishes. 13 years today. I actually tend, pathetically, to forget about it. We cruise every Sept and that is how we celebrate (kindof) and it is always so busy. We don't tend to do a lot of the gushy, flowers, etc. We celebrate being together everyday (I need that smiley gagging himself again). Trisha, I am very impressed you remember/knew.
Lisa, Your mom does rock! That is a huge gift to give you. And what a blessing for your kids.
Wendy, I say if you do the hotel....just don't unpack and wear what you wear to the airport on the plane. If you are not getting into the airport until 1 am though, I'm not sure if it is worth it. However, if you are paying to park your car anyway.....pay for the hotel, MOVE your pedicure to a different time and go earlier.
Susan, I don't sew either....my 6 yr old can baste. It is a lot easier than basting a turkey!
Jenny, How about something from a perfect gift....she could help you with ideas.....candy or snacks for the movies, pop or wine, a good book, water, chocolates....She will let you design your own basket and she has done a ton of them so she should have great ideas.

Walmart has costumes out (seriously :rotfl2: ). I got Natalie a "piratess" costume.
Lisa, Don't you wish you had listened to your mom and sis and joined us earlier? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Donna, Good idea on the alternate plans....we probably need to talk more on this stuff as it draws nearer and we see what is on the horizon (literally). By the way...What is your husbands name?
