Sept 16 2012 - WONDERing who's on the Calif Coastal with me?!

Ok so I deleted the "page" and made it a "closed group". I also didn't put the exact dates in the title, I just said 2012. In order for me to make the group "secret" I could only add my facebook friends. So I made it closed meaning everyone can see who is on it but only members can see posts. You have to ask to join it so If you want to join, PM me your real name so that I can verify with the people asking to join the group. So far my DH and I are the only members. Anyone who joins I will make an admin so if they are better with privacy settings they can mess with it. Here's the link:

Hello everyone :wave2:

We just booked today, and it will be our family's first cruise together. The last time my hubby and I were on a cruise was in 2003 for our honeymoon! This is our first Disney cruise, and my kiddos, Liam (6) and Ellie's (4) first cruise period!

I'm beyond excited, but my DH, not so much :sad2: He likes Disney, but is not into cruising. I'm not exactly sure why since he enjoyed our previous cruise minus the dressing up.

I booked our Palo dinner for formal night, so that's one less night we have to dress up.

Any chance of being able to book Palo brunch once onboard? It's completely sold out both days, and since I booked Palo for 8:30, and we normally will have dinner at 5:45, can we go to the earlier show that evening, since we'll be having a late dinner?

ETA: My name is Kira, btw!

You can go to the earlier show time the night you are having the late dinner. I have heard/read that they keep about 30% of Palo reservations to book on board so that shouldn't be a problem either! Welcome to our cruise thread :)

I'm Karen & we'll be sailing with our almost 2 year old dd by then and our friend's family w/ a 2 y.o. dd too.

Check out the fb group for this sailing if you want to put some names and faces together!

Btw, on our last (and first!) Disney cruise, we were seated with another couple and their 2 young children and the wife wore a dress to the formal nights but the husband was always in jeans and a t-shirt and there were others like him so your DH doesn't really have to dress up if he doesn't feel like it. Some guy at the table by ours was in a tux and they had a couple of casually dressed people at their table too. Nobody seems to mind. I know the people who dress up like getting the professional family pics taken beforehand too.

How many families/people are doing the FE now?? Just trying to keep tab on how many I need to make :-) :-) :-)

Hi everyone, I emailed DCL and asked which nights were pirate, semi-formal and formal night on our cruise before I booked Palo & nursery time and got this reply. Thought I'd share with anyone else interested!

"7-Night Pacific Coast Cruise
*Nights 1, 3, 4, 7: cruise casual
*Night 2: "semi-formal night" - semi-formal wear for men: suit/jacket;
for women: dress or pantsuit.
*Night 5: "formal night" - formal wear for men: tuxedo or suit; for
women: gown or dress
*Night 6: pirate night with deck party - cruise casual or bring your
best pirate outfit!
"

Very helpful! I am guessing since this exact cruise has never been done before (exciting to be on the very first isn't it?) there is no way to know the rotation of dining rooms, right?

nunzia, I was thinking the same question! We typically do Palo on Pirate Night, but those don't match for us. All I know is I CANNOT miss Triton's the night they have the Grand Marnier Souffle!!! In not knowing how they will do rotation, how am I supposed to 1) move Palo or 2) request a specific rotation?

I presume we just need to get into Triton's on a "casual" night since I think that's the menu the souffle is on? So much planning for a single dessert!!!

If you still do Palo for Pirate Night then you won't miss the Grand Marnier Souffle. Since Pirate Night is its own menu.

No you won't be able to know your rotation ahead of time.

But some keys to think about:

Formal Night and Semi-Formal night will be the same menus everywhere. Most likely Golden Mickeys and Captains Gala.

The last night is typically is Till We Meet again.

So according to the what night is what list the OP posted, then don't book Palo nights 1, 3, or 4 and you will be fine.

this is exactly why I reserved Palo for brunch and not dinner. I didn't want to miss any of the special menus or the traditional restaurant menus in our dining rotation. I just hope we get Triton's on formal night and Parrot Cay on Pirate night.

Silly Question:
How long does dinner at Palo take? We have the late dinner and I was thinking if we skipped the pre-dinner show one night and did Palo we may still be able to make it to our rotational dining (I know that's a lot to eat in one night but it's a cruise, right?). Would that even be remotely feasible?

Me too!! All the menus look awesome and I want the kids to experience it all :-)

Oooh and I have made one costume for pirate night!! This girl is getting excited :-) :-)

Palo takes as long or as short as you like. Its all up on how many courses you oder. I don't think we have been up there longer than 1.5 hours. So Yes if you get an early Palo you could technically make it the main dining rooms if you wanted to. Go at like 6pm. Though do remember that in San Diego and San Fran we are thre to late night, so there may be things you want to do those days that will make it hard to be back by 6pm.

Honestly, Pirate Night is the worst menu ever, and many people do agree. Plus the show for Pirate night is just a movie so you wont miss a main show.

Same goes for the main menus, what you eat in Palo will beat any of the main menus also.

Formal Night should be Golden Mickeys
The first Night will be the welcome abroad show.
One night will be a comedian

Hi everyone. I've been reading the posts. Getting excited about the cruise and getting fe ideas. Really looking forward to meeting everyone in Cali. Just started thinking about packing. Or at least which bags to pack. And I already am packing the box of fun things to have on the ship to send ahead. Don't want to have to carry across the country. Good night to the new friends who will Wonder the West Coast with me.

Welcome to the group and the facebook group. Will you be participating in our Fish Extender?

Yes, we'd love to participate! Here's my info....

Names of people cruising with you Kira(me) Jeremiah (DH) Liam (DS) and Ellie (DD)
Ages of children (if any)Liam (6) Ellie (4)
Stateroom # VGT, so not sure yet
Location of stateroom (Forward, Midship, Aft)N/A
Special Notes (are you celebrating a Birthday, Anniversay, or any other special event?) No, nothing special! Just our first Disney cruise, and kids first cruise.

So, is it just one gift per stateroom delivered on one day? Or multiple gifts over multiple days? And, is a handmade item part of the requirement?

CruiseTink is the one organizing the FE. So PM her all that info to make sure you're on the list. Hand made is not required I don't think. I just PM'd Susan (AKA CruiseTink) this morning about the FE and to get an updated list of people so I know how many to make.

I PM'd her, thanks!

I have another question...Is there any way we can request being seated at a 4 top? My son has sensory issues when it comes to food, and may get sick to his stomach during dinner. I would hate for this to ruin someone's dinner experience, so we'd prefer to not be seated with others. Can this be done?

Ask your TA to put in the request. Or if you didn't use a TA call the cruise line directly. Explain the situation and they will do what they can for you. But if you don't get it, just explain to the people at your table. Any decent person will understand.
