Question: On sea days, is it too windy to enjoy the verandah or kiddie splash area onboard?

Pretty windy on deck 9 but the veranda's were nice...

We loved Bonaire! To make it better, it was just the two of us plus divemaster, and we had a turtle hang out with us for about half the time. We had almost decided to get certified prior to that cruise, thinking that since it was my present for graduating from grad school I would have more time on my hands, but somehow we never found that extra time. :confused3

Mandy... since you are in the DFW area... I could get you certified before we go....

Noel: If you remember who took the cooking class I'd love to know to find out how they liked it. TripAdvisor has it listed as # 1 on things to do.

To all: Has anyone done the canyoneering excursion in Madiera?

:welcome: on board! So glad to have you and your husband joining us on the cruise! I also had checked out TripAdvisor and we were going to do the canyoneering. Thought that would be so exciting until I saw the horseback riding rated, I believe, #2 or #3 on list of things to do in Madiera. So we are now doing the horseback riding tour for our sightseeing. I've already contacted the company.....they will pick you up near the ship and drive you to the ranch. We are really excited and the owners of the ranch seemed really nice!! :goodvibes Look forward to meeting both of you on the cruise!

Hi There,

I'm Paul and will be travelling with my wife Helen and our daughter Grace (2) on the WBTA.

This will be our 1st cruise and we are thouroughly looking forward to it.

From reading through the threads (thanks Granmaz & Mandygirl for the directions) I am amazed at the level of organisation that goes into organising all the activities. I don't know where you all find the time!!!

We think the ideas are great and are particularly interested in the FE, secret Mickey and pub crawl.

Any suggestions to gift ideas for the FE would be greatly appreciated as we are completely new to this.

I thought I was being organised doing research 3 months before the cruise but it would appear i am a late starter. The excursions in Madeira and Tortola look great but it looks like they are fully booked.

Any ideas regarding solo trips would be appreciated for Madeira.

Thanks Goofieslonglostsis for the info on dolphin discovery in Tortola. That looks great and something Grace would love to do.
Can anyone confirm if this is the one that DCL uses for their excursion and if so do they book the places up making it impossible to book the trip independantly?

We arrive in Barcelona on 9th and would also be interested in the Hard Rock meet.

Look forward to seeing you all in September

Paul, Helen & Grace

:welcome: Paul to you and your family! You may want to check out www.TripAdvisor.com for solo trip ideas in Madeira and Gibraltar. We've picked out a horseback riding trip that takes us sightseeing. Looks like a lot of fun. They have other things listed too! Look forward to meeting you and your family on the the cruise! :goodvibes

Welcome to Karen and Stan:cheer2::cheer2:

Tony and Sandy here from Northern California sailing for 7th time on DCL

Hi there, Tony and Sandy!

:welcome: aboard! We're Pat and Dennis. This is our 3rd cruise (all DCL) but our first for more than 4 nights.

Be sure to read the FE Info post on pg 1 and post #223 on pg 15. Then ask any questions you have. I'm working on splitting up the lists, due to baggage limitations getting to Barca for many of us. It may not be too clear, if you haven't been in on the discussion (not sure it's that clear for those of us who have been in on it), so ask away and we'll clarify for you.

Oh, Dennis and I are total "foodies" (and winos, but that's another story) - a cooking class sounds like fun! Are you going to do the Boqueria Market, too? We only have two days in Barca. Part of me wants to sight-see and shop, but this is really tempting my inner chef. (Hmm... Wonder if I'd have room in my suitcase for my chef's knives?)

Hello Pat and Dennis! I'll be certain to read up on the FE info and PM you as soon as I am able. We are doing the Boqueria market! And rumor has it the Spanish wine flows freely at this event; good news for us "winos"!

Welcome Karen & Stan.....we are going to need some nicknames with all the Karen's on this cruise it's going to be confusing. :lmao:

Glad to have you onboard. :cool1:

I agree, and I think I'll be going with my nickname "KP" for the duration.

This cruise is also to celebrate my DH's 50th birthday, which is in October. I wanted to cruise actually ON his birthday but he chose the WBTA again as he loved it so much last time. We are leaving our 2 offspring behind ... well DD ( 20 ) will actually be travelling in USA in September when she finishes the WDW college programme. Poor DS ( 17 ) will be at home being supervised by his grandmother, as he starts back at college in September.
Look forward to meeting you at the Hard Rock :woohoo:

That's a great recommendation for the WBTA--
I'd love to know how your DD liked the college program; our DD is interested in it. DS will also be home with the grandparents, lol. Here's to our hubbies' birthdays!!

Welcome aboard Karen & Stan

We are Neil & Michelle, 4th Cruise first TA :thumbsup2

Hiya Neil and Michelle! It's our 4th and 1st too!

Welcome back. We are Marilyn and John, 8th cruise 2nd WBTA.

Hi and welcome to you too.

Hi Marilyn and John!

Oooh, now I have to go look at that, too! We are fast approaching our sign-up time at 90 days out and need to make some decisions, lol!

Paul, Helen & Grace

Welcome, Paul, Helen & Grace. You sound like me 2 days ago when I found this thread and was amazed at all the organization already in place! I just know you will enjoy your first cruise. Disney was always our favorite when taking our children. Nothing else comes close!

Does Orient have much shade? Our big issue is needing shade... skin cancer survivor, so we use extreme caution with the sun, particularly with our two little ones since there could be a genetic component with melanoma. Hats, rash guards, 50+ sunscreen, and shade are our norm!

You can rent chairs and umbrellas at Orient, so you can have shade that way, but there are no trees or foliage on the beach for shade so if you don't want to pay for chairs/umbrellas it is full sun. When you take the taxi to Orient beach, just tell the driver to drop you off somewhere that you can rent chairs and umbrellas - they will know the good places. These beach clubs have restroom facilities and bars/restaurants too.

I've arranged for a taxi to take me around to the botanical gardens (there are 3) and I have room for 3 more people, if you're interested. Cheaper than a tour and WE get to tell him where to go:laughing:

Happy Day, everyone!

Hi Linda, I don't know if we want structure for the day - i.e. a time to meet the taxi, etc. We might rather just take it as it comes, but I will ask my husband. Either way, thank you for the offer! :goodvibes

One sleep till Barcelona and two sleeps till we board the Magic :cool1::cool1:

What am I saying, sleeps...... there is absolutely no way I will sleep over the next 2 nights with the excitement :rotfl:

Wish me luck that we manage to get an upgrade, we're going to the port for 10 am to try and get one. The ship looked pretty full by the time they closed off for bookings a couple of days ago.

I've just had a quick check on the DCL site for those of you with your reservations opening up in the next few days - quick Palo update:-

High Tea - Days 6, 9 and 13 are gone for High Tea slots
Brunch - availability every day
Dinner - availability every day

Good luck everyone and I hope you get the slots that you want :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for the Palo update! It was really nice of you to do that esp since you've been busy getting ready for your trip.
Have a wonderful time!

I am really trying to get our pre-cruise hotel figured out but I feel like I am going in circles trying to decide between all the hotels.

Sarah, I saw on a hotel thread that you loved your stay at Praktik Rambla, but I noticed you are not staying there this trip. If it's not too personal can I ask why? It is one that we are considering.

Anyone that has already been to Barcelona and enjoyed their stay in a hotel, I would love to hear some recommendations.

We were in Barcelona in May this year and stayed at the Petit Palace Museum hotel. We really liked it. It was very modern in decoration and had comfortable rooms w/ a great shower and balcony + free internet with a laptop in every room and also a safe. If you are okay w/ walking, it is a fantastic location b/c its not far to the Gaudi apartments (La Pedrera/Casa Mila, Casa Batlo) and its a bit of a walk to Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter, but it was easy enough for us to walk to Las Ramblas for breakfast each day. The area is quieter than being right on Las Ramblas and very nice w/ lots of upscale shops.

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi! I was booked here and switched to the EBTA - had soooo much fun on the EBTA and such a great cruise that I'm another one who decided to "do it again" -Have some catching up to do and look forward to getting know everyone!

Lisa

Welcome Lisa! Glad you'll be cruising with us!!

As you can see from the post counter, we literally just found the DIS boards and then by lucky happenstance, this thread.

Will PM all the appropriate folks to join FE, SM, and the other fun things you all have cooked up. This will add a "magical" dimension to the cruise. Can't wait to meet many of you on these boards and have a chat before sailing!

Welcome Aboard! And welcome to the Dis, it's a great community :)

I seem to be getting my miracle? Just got the official green light for the operation! Should get it within 4 weeks apparently, but am not holding my breath. They've cancelled way too many appointments so far. I think one hasn't been moved or cancelled, so we decided to assume the date will get moved at least once. Fingers crossed though it gets done a.s.a.p. and the recovery will be one of perfection. If that all comes together, it's cruising I go with you guys. At least this is one big step closer to stepping aboard the Magic in 95 days.

I hope this all works out! I will say a little prayer for you.

Paul, Helen & Grace

Welcome Paul, Helen and Grace!!! How interesting that a TA will be your first cruise - that is quite a leap of faith on your part that you will like it....but I know you will! Disney does such an amazing job, even after all of these days you will not want to leave!

 Lots of hugs to you Jacqueline. I hope they don't change your date & that your recovery will be speedy so you are feeling better for the cruise. :wizard:

PS; has anybody ever gotten a manicure at the spa aboard? Or perhaps even the Elemis hand ritual + manicure? I'm wondering about experiences!

Thinking about getting my nails done aboard. Never had them done before (so basically any tips on that are also welcomed) but they could use a nice touch up and some fake ones on them. I realise it's probably cheaper to get it done at home, but that's fine with me.

I had a Shellac manicure on the Dream in January, it was fab and didn't chip at all for other 3 weeks!!! I'm not sure if they do them on the Magic but Mary is going to find out for me on her Med cruise tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Welcome aboard & welcome to the DIS Paul, Helen & Grace. We are Claire & Lee, this our 3rd cruise.

Just jump in with any questions you have, it really will take you forever to read all the pages of the other three threads.

They are more you watch the chefs cook, but I think they are very popular. I believe you get to taste the dishes too.

Mandy... since you are in the DFW area... I could get you certified before we go....

Which island of you thinking of going diving at? St Maarten? Curt may be interested -- my blood pressure is borderline (was hospitalized for it at end of pregnancy last year for the duration... and just afraid to try it now), and I know I need to get a doc approval. Curt's open to looking into it! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info! The islands we have taken land vacations on have had those tree-lined beaches (like St John, Bequia, Kauai...), so we would always just lay under the shade of the seagrape trees.... ahhhh... but the times we have been on St Maarten for cruises, have not made it to Orient. I do remember a little Bacardi restaurant on the French side from our first visit there - loved that little place!

:welcome: aboard Lisa! We are Claire & Lee, this is our 3rd cruise but first TA. :cool1:

Welcome Karen & Stan.....we are going to need some nicknames with all the Karen's on this cruise it's going to be confusing. :lmao:

Glad to have you onboard. :cool1:
Welcome back Lisa. Welcome Karen & Stan. Nicknames sounds good .. so long as I don't get called Pooh :rolleyes1

Just be careful with those beach umbrellas or you could end up with a video like this :rotfl::rotfl:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RILkG2yhAAM&feature=related

Thanks for the info on Petit Palace, I will have to look into that one :goodvibes

WE loved the Praktik Rambla but I do like to stay in different areas, and this time we wanted to be closer to the Gothic Quarter as we loved this area so much and I was hoping to wander about there ater the Hard Rock Cafe meet up ... we are staying in the Hotel Denit, which is just off Placa Catalunya and it got good reviews on Trip Advisor :thumbsup2

Thanks Sarah, Gothic quarter sounds cool. I love old architecture which is why Praktik Rambla is appealing, but maybe I have to look into the surrounding area as well.

Thanks everyone!! We're at aberdeen airport now at the gate waiting to board our flight to heathrow then connecting to Barcelona :woohoo:

I'll keep lots of notes Karen and I'll ask the necessary dining and Palo questions for our activities :)

Chris & Jeremy, daytime is fine for the pub crawl for us

I might not make it to dinner :lmao::lmao:

Mary, have a wonderful trip! Hope to hear lots about it when you return!!

Wow, thats a lot. I have planed 1 suitcase each and a carry on each.
Our limited luggage wheigt is 1 piece of 20 kg pp and 1 piece of 10 kg cabinsize on our flight from Amsterdam to Barcelona.
On our way back from Orlando to Amsterdam we can have 3 kg more and we can have a extra handbag/laptopbag whit us, so we get extra spare room in our carry on luggage.
So I have to choose the right things to pack.

First up; welcome to all the newcomers!! :thumbsup2 I'm Jacqueline from the Netherlands, cruising solo on this one and well...... my nick kinda says a lot. That's all the warning I'm giving.

Noel, all I can say is WOW! I think you've got more luggage than I got as a total wardrobe (shoes and all included). And you say you guys use a spare bedroom as gathering space for the travel clothes etc. so that would mean you've got plenty of other clothes to wear at home? That's got to be one heck of a wardrobe! I'm officially wowed, what a womans heaven do you live in! :goodvibes
DH and I have traveled quite a bit over the years, plus used to do lots of entertaining. When we were younger, had to attend lots of black tie functions so I have accumulated quite a wardrobe though I am trying to downscale as we have gone from 7 to 4 bedrooms, thus loosing lots of closet space. However with the kids all gone now, I do tend to fill them up!!

Fingers and toes crossed for the date to remain the same and a smooth and safe outcome for the operation!!

I got a manicure last time I was on Magic. It was nice but the nail polish didn't stick very long. I had to peel it all of in the evening (It came of in big lumps). Maybe my nails are wired :confused3 but I was not very satisfied.

I had the same experience on board so I will be doing my nails at home. I do gelish which last about three weeks.

Here is a review of gelish nail polish. Gelish

09. We are also going to do a Champagne Girls meet. The Champagne Girls event originated on the WBPC cruise in 2008. Women get together dressed in pink to drink champagne or non alcoholic bubbly and chat. Pictures of the first meet are in this post and pictures from the last WBTA are in this post. Please PM (Clare)Pinky166 to add you name to the list.

10. If you would like to join in the Scrapbooking Exchange, please PM Clare (Pinky166) with your name and room number. The idea is to give your fellow exchangers some scrapbooking embellishments for use in your scrapbooks after you return home! For more info check this post.

15. Karen (Pixie Dust For Me!)is organizing a stateroom tour, but we can't do it without you! PM me with your stateroom assignment and room number and we will tour as many staterooms as possible. It would be great to get one in every category!

When: Definitely on a sea day....stay tuned for which day!
Time: TBD
Where: You will be given a list of participating stateroom numbers and categories the day after we embark (to account for all those upgrades, don't you know )
Refreshments: Optional per discretion of stateroom participant.

16. If you want a designed DIS tee shirt for this cruise, follow the instruction in this post. DIS Tee shirt

17. Cliffy 97 (Dan and Bruce) are organizing a typical English pub crawl with a date TBD. Info so far is as follows:
On a sea day those who were interested would meet in one of the bars for ( Traditionally a half pint pounded, I would suggest a drink of your choice) and then visit (Crawl) every other bar on the ship at least once.

As we do not have to worry about anything closing or how we are getting home, I would I would imagine we can spend 20-30 min at each location versus the 5-10 min you have on the monopoly pub crawl in London.

Perhaps we can make tshirts up too.

Stay tuned for more details.

17. If anyone wants to organize a postcard exchange, please feel free to start one. What we did las year is bring a postcard from where we lived and left in each other's FE. It is best to limit the number of participants no more than 25 as cost and weight to bring become an issue.

Attention all Madeira tour members and potential tour members

I am still finalizing details with Daniel taxi on our East and West tours but the tours are NOT full.

Once I get all the information sorted out, I will update the post on page one. The link takes a few seconds to load as it is a large file.

Post on page One Link:

Farewell DIS lunch on the last sea day?????

Are people still interested in this? I heard it mentioned once a long time ago but nothing since?

If people want to do this, then let me know names & numbers and i'll keep a list & add it to my post on the first page. :thumbsup2

Welcome Paul, Helen and Grace. We did the EBTA last year----enjoy all the long cruises!!! Sea days are wonderful and relaxing. :thumbsup2
