Separating party to avoid auto tip

I don't want to start a debate, but we will be a party of 8 wanting to separate into two parties of 4. My SIL and her family are going with us on this trip, but it is a very strict budget for them, so any way they can save will be a tremendous help. We both have 4 in our family.

I made all of our ADR's this morning, under one reservation number as a party of 8. The CM told me to do it that way and tell them at check in that we want to be separated but close together. I told the CM that we wanted two parties of 4 prior to booking, but she told me to do it this way.

Should I make the seatings for two parties of four or will they separate us at check in? Also, if I leave it as is, since we are under one reservation number will we be charged the auto gratuity regardless?

So they are going to save money by Not tipping? Or tipping less than the 18%? Maybe if money is that tight, they should just skip table service and just do counter? That would save them big money, and those poor Cast Members can have people sit in their stations who will tip them, so that they too can go on a vacation.

Now if there is a valid reason they server does not deserve the full 18%, you can talk to the manager and they will adjust the tip accordingly.

But my vote is to skip one table service and you all sit together and enjoy all the other meals

1) You will need two ADR's.
2) Just separating tables is still considered a "party of 8".
3) It is still assumed that you would reduce your tip. *
4) Even if you split tables.

* Reasons for auto-tips are that most people will see that huge tab and not pay a full 15%-18% tip. It is assumed that same applies even if you are not sitting together.

since you are a reservation of 8 the gratuity will be automatic even if you sit at different tables.

If you can't afford to eat somewhere don't eat there...pretty simple, huh? Or how about this, maybe when they sit down at their table let the server know that they really can't afford to eat there and tip the proper 18% as well, but they have decided to take up a table anyway. They could let the server know that they will only be leaving, say 10%-12% (or whatever it might be), and that they will only be expecting service to reflect their lousy tip...sounds pretty fair to me!

No actually, I have never known my SIL to tip anything less than 20%...usually she tips more! I just don't want them to feel like they are being stretched to the limit. My DH will cover any tip for our parties if need be. This way they would not feel like we are not trying to cover their bill!
