I'm a little confused about the Halloween stuff. I believe they are on Tuesdays and Fridays, will this start as early as Sep. 21? If that is the case, should we wait until Sep. 22 to star our park hoppers? My original thought was to do Disney Sep. 21, 22 and 24th. Do the beach and an Angels game on the 23rd.
Will we get a magic morning? We are staying at Embassy or Homewood (I have reservations at both and can't decide.) I also have one at PVI, but think I am letting that go as I can't justify the price $3-400 more than the other two. My kids are 9 & 7 so I don't care about the shuttle.
Any other things we need to be worried about?

It is difficult to speculate what will be done in regards to the Halloween party this year...when it will begin...what days. Seems like DLR is releasing the information later than usual. Hopefully they will provide some info soon to better help plan your stay...and mine in October.
If you are purchasing a 3 day or more PH, you should have a MM available to you.
I am a big fan of the Embassy Suites South. Their hot breakfast and other extras are hard to beat.

A CM previously told me the first Halloween Party for 2012 will be Friday, 28 September.

That makes sense as the last Friday of September was the first party last year. We went to that one. I was a little disappointed there weren't that many people in costumes, but maybe because it was a month until Halloween.
