hi

im going tomorrow but as the excitement increases im temped to book for next year.

oldest dd will be doing her A level year. this year she doesnt mind missing a week of her AS levels but refuses to miss any next year which is fair enough.
are the rest of us, me dh and dd13, terrible for going regardless?

so we are thinking that because dd13 will only be in year 9 (and we wont take her out of school in year 10 or 11 at all) then we might as well go in september and make the most of the holiday as we wont be going for 2 years. september is our favourite time

we normally book a few weeks before we go but would it be better to book sooner rather than later?

any thoughts and advice on booking so early would be gratefully received

although i might not reply for a fortnight to some of the comments

I book really early - as early as possible. There was a time up until, I would say, early to mid 2009, when last minute deals were great. I seem to find them few and far between now. They are out there, both with packages and flights but you need to be committed to actively searching right to the end and I also feel you have to be less picky as last minute deals are really just a matter of selling off excess holiday components at the end of a season.

Everything seems to be a bit of a gamble now with holiday and flight bargains. I knew last year when I booked our recent trip that if I didn't come in on our budget we would be going nowhere. We also knew exactly where we wanted to stay and I wasn't leaving it to chance. So as soon as I saw a quote I was happy to pay, I booked. I stopped looking after that so not sure if there were possibly better deals later on. Flights I booked as soon as they came out and was very happy with the price I paid, which came in under budget. Again, I did peek a couple of times in the first week after booking but then only looked when a couple of folk asked about flights and yes ours for our dates went up significantly. Once again, there were most probably bargains and possibly folk got seats for better prices than I paid - and good for them. i just wasn't able to leave it to chance.

And you be sure to have a safe flight and a fantastic trip!! :cool1:
