Hi everyone!

We're planning our Disney World trip for July '09. We've done it once before. Our oldest daughter was 10 at the time and a SPD kid. We wrote about it for SI Focus if any of you get the magazine.

BUT, this time, we will also have a 1yo with sensory issues, and my FIL who sometimes uses a wheelchair/electric scooter because of a leg amputation. I have issues with sun exposure because of Lupus. But YES we are going and we're determined to make it a success!

Does anyone have some tips to share? I'm particular interested in any access issues we may not be thinking of for my FIL (He's very mobile though, I'm just want to make it the most enjoyable for him) and also, doing Disney with such a young sensory kid!

Thanks!

For the sun issues get the GAC as they will stamp it for shade.
FAQs has tips for people who are sun sensitive.

I am SID with a hypersensitve mother so my advice on the baby is a stroller with canopy. There are ear muffs for littlest ones. You can get a GAC for her as she has issues requiring that she stay in the stroller it is the "stroller as Wheelchair". Sensory people often like that hide away in the stroller

Otheres willbe around later with lots of good advice.:hug::hug:

Hi there,

I have Lupus, and have travelled in the summer to WDW (my next trip is 27 days away... yaaaayyy! :dance3: ). I discovered last summer before my trip that Neutrogena makes an SPF 70 sunsblock that worked very well for me last year. Also, I found that either getting up early and taking a midday break, or sleeping in a bit, and then getting up and heading out in the late morning/early afternoon (and then being in the parks at night) helped me a great deal with not getting overly fatigued, and not having too much sun exposure. I took advantage of shady spots whenever I could, and I also used an ECV in the bigger parks (Epcot and AK) to avoid getting overly tired with all the walking.

Another thing that helped me was having a Misty Mate. It helped keep me cool, and again, helped keep me from getting sick with fatigue and joint pain (and rash and nausea, etc etc).

Anyway, have a great trip! :flower3:

ETA: I second getting a GAC. You can get it stamped with a phrase that says something like "needs to wait out of the sun" and there are other phrases (depending on your specific need) that you can get as well.

I know a nice young lady who has battled Lupus and chronicles her successes and failures on her blog. http://despitelupus.blogspot.com/ All you have to do is read about her life or having seen Randy Pusch's youtube video and having read his book makes me appreciate how blessed I am and happy for the courageous people who live everyday with health problems. God Bless
