Anyone have suggestions on children's rain gear that doesn't feel like just vinyl. We are trying to plan for a 6yo with a sensitivity disorder. She has not been willing to wear vinyl rain coats or ponchos in the past because she hates the feel of the vinyl against her skin. On the other hand she also hates the feel of wet clothes. TIA!

I do not like the feel of the rain ponchos either I find the very cheep one that you can get for a $1 work best for me I will roll the slive up so that it is not on me as much and that helps a lot

or if you have some money to spend you get get gortex ( SP?) with a rain jacket and pants but that can be pricy

DS is a coach and he has a wardrobe of lightweight rain jackets that are not that vinyl. They fold up really small. Colombia has a line, several stores carry but here is a visual at Kohls. http://tinyurl.com/qavnnzb

When are you going? Fleece will repel water unless it's coming down really hard and/or you stay in it a long time. It's hot, though, so if you go when it's warm, it may be too much, especially for someone with sensory issues.

I have bought rain jackets from Cabelas.com that were not vinyl. Both for myself and for my son.

There are even fabric lined rain coats that might work. These might get a bit warm, but are an option.

Thanks. This for my niece who is going with us to DW in August (so no avoiding the chance of rain and heat is an issue). She is also going with her parents to Yellowstone earlier in the summer, so we are looking for something that can do double duty. Thanks for the suggestions.

I prefer umbrellas over ponchos and raincoats. Sandals that are made to get wet and quick dry clothes help too.

I have issues with raingear, too, and I overheat really easily (which makes vinyl extra awful). What I've found over the years is that the best raingear for an afternoon shower is a lightweight jacket (usually cotton) sprayed with CampDry. You can buy the spray for like $8 at any WalMart or Target, you spray it on and let it dry for a few hours, and voila. It works in all but the heaviest rain, still lets fabric breathe, and means no icky stiff vinyl! We even use it for boots that weren't made for snow and for canvas shoes in summer, and it keeps everything really nice and dry.
