Sensing Pixie Dust I Am! A Star Wars Weekend PTR! New PTR Link pg. 77!

Yes, I have a Masters in Reading Education. I guess calling it a six-year degree is a misnomer -- it is only about a year in length but because it comes after the Masters (which I guess some people finish in a year, it is called the six-year degree). Emory is close -- it is only about 45 minutes away from where we are...I am such a school snob -- I could do my PhD with a different university or program but I want to be able to say, "I got my degree from [insert important sounding school here]." :lmao:

Okay okay I get that now! I was going to say!!?? :scared1: Ah, well, even still, the point is that you want what you want in this case, and if you are putting forth the effort, I get it perfectly. I did that with Johns Hopkins here in MD, so I get the name brand... Personally, it is about the colors on the hood in my case...

Jackie, you crack me up! :rotfl: I remember when I got my Master's degree in Nursing our instructors asked everyone, "Now who is going to get their PhD?" I said, "Never!" and I have remained true to my word. No worries about an important sounding school here!

I am finally all caught up on your posts! It feel like forever since I have been on DIS. I have missed everyone.

We missed you, too! :goodvibes

I am booked at POP. Now I have to make that work. It should be no problem, but I need to get time off from work and make sure that money stays available. :rolleyes1

I know what you mean! We really want to come down, but it will all be a question of money...isn't that always the case with us? LOL!

Wow!!! You have some awesome dismeets planned!!! :yay: That is so exciting!!!

I agree with MEK....Chelsea is going to kill you :rolleyes1 I really like tormenting my 14 year old niece. A LOT! :rotfl2:

I can't wait for your ride on TOT :woohoo:

Tracy

We are looking forward to meeting up with everyone!

Chelsea will probably kill me, but I can always play dumb. LOL!

It should be an interesting ride on the ToT! :lmao:

On the way home from soccer today I said to my DH "10 weeks & 4 days". Weeks & days sound so much better than months!:rotfl:

This is true! Today is our two and a half months mark -- I think that translates into about ten weeks for us. Yikes! It's coming up fast!

Wow, for losing one game by one goal?! Ugggg! :sad2:

And her daughter didn't play which I think is the real reason she was mad. She thinks her daughter is the best one on the team.

Now that my Swish Club duties are over I should have time to start one. I'll have stuff to do for the Home Run Club, but not nearly as much (I hope!). Maybe sometime this next week :thumbsup2

I must say I am super thrilled you started a PTR!

Justin transitioned really well, I'm sure Chelsea will too. It's just so hard to see them growing up. It dawned on me the other day that we are almost to the last quarter of school, which means he's almost a sophomore - I'm afraid we'll be filling out college applications before I know it! :sad2:

Right there with you on that one!

You have so many DIS meets planned, that's awesome! I can't wait to see how Chelsea meeting Justin unfolds. :rotfl2: You made me laugh when you said something about payback and how you're not a Scorpio or anything. My mom told me yesterday that I am definitely a fire sign -- I parallel parked my brother's car for him yesterday as payback to the jerk who dumped snow all over my dad's hood and windshield last Sunday after he parked in "her" spot (after she was gone all weekend!) There were plenty of other spots for her to park, but just knowing that I created one less space for her made me feel really, really satisfied. I freely admit it was silly and juvenile of me, but so is dumping snow all over someone's car b/c they parked where you normally do! I am so ready for spring, I'm sick of the parking wars in my neighborhood.

I think that is a great way to get back at that woman. LOL!

Hooray for DIS meets! :cool1:
We had several on this trip, and everyone was wonderful!

We always have a lot of fun meeting new people and seeing old friends!

I wish I had the $$ to snatch up Brooklynn and come down there that week for some MeMom and Me fun...and to see all of you guys. We will sure enjoy the Facebook updates, though.

Yes, we will have to make sure we do lots of Facebook updates. Chelsea is more talented than I am so it's a good thing you are friends with her. LOL!

Chelsea may never forgive you if you don't allow her to prepare for that 'secret' meet! I can't wait to see pictures of all the DIS kids together. :dance3:

I am pretty sure I am going to play dumb on that one -- such as, "Oh, I didn't know you would want to prep any differently." ;)

Boma with Marc, Anita, and Baylor will be awesome! One of your favorite resorts with some of your favorite people - how good does it get?!?!?

It sounds just perfect! :goodvibes

It is so great that you are going to have those meets. One of these times I hope to do the same.

Wow Chelsea a freshman in high school! Those years go by all too fast. Three of mine were in honors classes. Congratulations to Chelsea for getting in to honors classes.

Thank you! I just can't get over the fact that she is old enough to head to that big ol' high school down the street.

Also meant to say that I can't believe Chelsea is going to be in high school! She and Connor look so little in the pictures you posted. Congratulations to her getting into the Honors program, that's awesome!

Thank you! We are very proud of her.

I overlooked this the first time through.
Congratulations to Chelsea! :yay:
She's got a busy four years ahead of her.

Thank you! We are very proud of her. I know she is excited about starting high school and getting out from under my wings. She won't have to worry about running into me in the halls and hearing, "What are you doing out of class???"

Congrats to Chelsea on making the honors program. I can't believe she will be in high school either. I remember the first tr I read of yours and Connor and Chelsea both looked so small.

It's hard to believe how much time has passed so quickly. Chelsea looks so different to me these days -- she is almost as tall as me!

Congrats to Chelsea for making Honors! You should be so proud! :thumbsup2

So fun to have all those DIS meets planned!

I'm going to have my first meet in September and I'm excitted!

Oh my....I hope Chelsea is still speaking to you after her surprize DIS meet!
We must see pics!

How did you make out with the tshirt buying for the trip?

Thank you for the congrats for Chelsea! We are very proud of her!

I hope Chelsea is still speaking to me, too, or it will be a very quiet drive home the next day. LOL!

Haven't really even begun the t-shirt buying yet. I should get on that.

Congratulations to Chelsea! I am sure she is so excited to go to high school.
Yay for all the Dismeets! I wish we could be there for the NYE meet! I am still thinking about it.
Can't wait to hear more!

Excited doesn't really describe Chelsea's feelings about starting high school. She is definitely ready to head there -- me -- not so much. LOL!

Congratulations to Chelsea on the Honors classes!

Thank you! It's a load off my mind not having to wait on hearing. :goodvibes

:rotfl2: Thank you for putting my mind at ease, after I posted that I was like "gosh I sound really mean, maybe I shouldn't have posted that." :rotfl:

Nah, not mean at all. LOL!

Jackie, you might be able to add another DIS meet to you list -- Katie might be there at the same time, but leaving the 28th b/c the 27th is her birthday. I think right now it's just a possibility, and I'm not sure how much she is on the DIS anymore, but definitely Facebook her about it!

Did I see that Katie booked that trip on Facebook? I think I did. I definitely need to touch base with her about their plans!

Congrats to Chelsea on the honors program! :yay::yay:

Thank you! We are very proud of her!

Congrats to Chelsea!!! :yay:
That is wonderful.

Thanks! It's quite a course load, but I know Chelsea can handle it.

Hey CP! I was very busy with Griffin's Aristocats play this weekend, up to my ears in, well Cat Ears and makeup!!! But I should make it to the post office in the next day or so! :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 That reminds me -- I need to send you a PM.

Congrats to Chelsea for being accepted into the honors program at the school, I am sure she will excel.

Thanks! The course of studies for the Honors program is a bit mind-boggling, but I know Chelsea will do okay. The only ones I am really worried about are the maths, but that is probably because AP Calculus was my nemesis my senior year. I still shudder when I think about it. LOL!

BOO for the over the top parent. What a bad role model.

The whole experience just left a really bad taste in my mouth all last weekend.

Congrats to Chelsea for getting into the honors program. That is awesome and I'm sure it is well deserved! :thumbsup2

Thank you! :goodvibes

Well, that stinks about those parents' behavior. How RUUUDE!!! (Full House anyone?)

Way to go Chelsea!!!! What a smart girl! I bet it helps to have a mom for a teacher! ;)

Thank you! Chelsea might not agree with you about having a mom as a teacher. I think sometimes I hold her to a higher standard than I would other students.

Big congrats to Chelsea on being accepted into the Honor's Program!!:cool1:

Thank you!

Congrats to Chelsea!!:cool1: Great job!

Boo to the rude parents. Unfortunately some of them have to yell & be down right rude. I do not get it.:confused3 Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the congrats!

I think we have been very fortunate to have great parents over the years because last week's incident really shocked us.

Congrats to Miss Chelsea!!!! What an honor....pardon the pun!! I know you all must be so proud of her!!! But, you know, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!!!! ;) Sending you all hugs!

Ah, thanks, Jen! We are super proud of her! :goodvibes

We are also heading to WDW for Star Wars Weekend. I am a bit scared after reading about crowds and such, but I figure my family loves Star Wars so they will love it.

We have gone to Star Wars Weekends before and I don't think the crowds were nearly as bad as others said. It's a really fun atmosphere!

:cool1: For Chelsea and getting into the honors program.

Thank you! :goodvibes

I finally started that PTR Jackie, come join me!!

There and having a great time! :thumbsup2

Congratulations on Chelsea making the honors program.

Don't worry about that yelling parent, unfortunately it is part of coaching sometimes. Think of all the parents that know how to act like adults.

Thank you!!! You are right about the yelling parent -- all of the rest of our parents are wonderful!

Congrats Chelsea!

Thank you!

Good morning, Jackie! Have fun at your parties this weekend!

We have had a lot of fun this weekend. My sides are still hurting from last night and laughing too hard.

Good luck in making your decision on a school - that would be a hard one, for sure! Maybe if all your DIS friends send $1, you can make it. Count me in for $1! :thumbsup2

:rotfl: Thanks! I just can't seem to get excited about going back to school unless it is to do something totally different like become an archaeologist.

I think you should go for your dreams....get that PHD!

Maybe this short deadline is just the push or nudge you needed?

I wish you well in the decision making process. :grouphug:

Thank you! It's just such a hard decision to make because I really didn't want to go back to school until the kids are finished with school. The thought of writing more papers does not seem like fun at all. LOL!

:lmao: about the colors on your hood.

The more I think about it, the more I just don't know if I want to go back to school right now. I keep thinking about having to write papers again, and a feeling of dread just fills me.

Jackie, you crack me up! :rotfl: I remember when I got my Master's degree in Nursing our instructors asked everyone, "Now who is going to get their PhD?" I said, "Never!" and I have remained true to my word. No worries about an important sounding school here!

:rotfl: I get that, too, Mary Ellen. It sounds like so much work...

Going back to school can be wonderful!
And I'm a bit of a school snob too.
What are you thinking of studying if you go back?

Oh my so much to catch up on over three pages!

Chelsea certainly has grown up since I first found you all in 2008....
and now getting ready for high school and the honors program no less!
Jackie, I can't say that I'm surprised at in the least.
Connor will be following in her path!:goodvibes
Congrats to Chelsea, you all must be so excited and proud!

I also have toyed with going back for an advanced degree, but the thought of writing papers just nauseates me....

Besides with the budget cuts, how could they afford to pay me more?

If you decide to go to Emory, count me in for a donation to the cause!

The ugly side of soccer (parents) OY!!!
It gets so ugly at little league sometimes. Just like that, not always yelling at the coaches but in the stands. I can't stand it when parents behave like that.

Dismeets! I can't wait!!!
I just wish you were stowing away on the cruise with us....:rolleyes1

Oh, I can't wait to see what you bought now!!! :rotfl:

Yes, it is yellow with the Millennium Falcon on it in blue. So cute! If you happen to be in an Old Navy (don't make a special trip by any means) and see one in large (boys, of course), I would be forever indebted to you! :goodvibes I'll PM you my cell phone number in case you want to text me. :thumbsup2

I tried to convince Charles he needed a Star Wars shirt, but he refuses. He says he will wear a Disney shirt, but not a Star Wars shirt.

That is so funny, I almost bought that shirt for my nephews in Germany. I brought them each a star wars shirt from Old Navy (Chewy on blue for the 4 year old, Storm Troopers on black for the 8 year old) and they were a HUGE hit. I couldn't find it in both their sizes though so they ended up with different shirts. That one was my first choice.

Both Jeff and my brother were like...I WANT ONE!

:rotfl:

It's the six-year education degree in between the master's and a PhD (which I think is what I really want, but I would want it from Emory which is very expensive). Georgia passed a new law that says unless you are in a degree-seeking program by July of this year, you will no longer be paid for your advanced degrees in teaching. So, it is kind of a now or never feeling for me.

GO FOR IT! It does sound like a better investment long term to just go for the PhD if that's what you really want.

I LOVE the fact that you aren't telling Chelsea. I'd do exactly the same thing to Kendall. She'd KILL me later though.

Well I finally got caught up but I had to cheat. I started reading every page and got as far as page 20 something then I had to get real at that pace I would be caught up at just about the time you left. So I finally broke down and read the updates. I know I have missed some great chatter and I'll feel lost but from this point forward I'm going to keep up.

I loved the Star Wars updates. I'm a Han lover too. But truth be told I think I might love Indy a little more. I really enjoyed the top 10 Han/Leia moments.:lovestruc. I also have a Darth Vadar story. I think Michelle was maybe 3 at the time. Brent was around 8 and loved Star Wars he was also an child who was easily scared. Dennis brought home a life size cut out of Darth Vadar from work late one night. He set it up in the hall bathroom hoping to get a scare out of Brent instead Michelle found it. She woke up late while Dennis was still up and came walking into the livingroom. Poor kid was in tears. "I need to go to the bathroom but Darth Vadar won't let me". We still laugh about that.

Can't wait for the next update.

I've been reading along, but staying quiet. Congrats to Chelsea on her acceptance to the Honors Program. Does that change the high school that she will attend? Is she worried about leaving her friends, or did some of them get into honors also?

I have thought about going back to school for my master's degree, but then I always think that the money I would spend should go towards my daughters' college before me. (Kind of like I had my shot, and now it should be their turn, ya know?:confused3)

Looking forward to reading more of your PTR!

Whew! Is it time to head to Disney World yet? :goodvibes

It is always time to head to Disney World!!! :dance3:

Unlike you, I have no desire to do any more schooling or paper writing for a while. I took two classes (online) the past two spring semesters to update, and I was so glad that I had to only take those two. I'm good now for a few years. :thumbsup2

It gets so ugly at little league sometimes. Just like that, not always yelling at the coaches but in the stands. I can't stand it when parents behave like that.

We saw some of that this weekend, some parents are just out of control with what they feel comfortable yelling out at a 10 year old baseball game :sad2:

I just wish you were stowing away on the cruise with us....:rolleyes1

::yes::

I have also been reading along but have been quiet on here. I hope to add a dis meet with you at Siesta's. Lots of luck figuring out the school thing. I think it is awesome. Where was your bacherlors/masters from?

I'm a little late to the game but wanted to say

CONGRATS CHELSEA!! WTG on making the Honors program!! That is fantastic!!!!

I too have thought about going back to school to get my PhD but I keep thinking I want to do it in Science not Education LOL!

Jackie- Congrats to Chelsea! I am amazed how different public schools are in different states. Our kids just sign up for honors classes. It is supposed to be teacher recommendation, but parents can override the decision. Also, interesting about the pay for degrees. So, if you don't sign up, will you never get the pay for a higher degree?

Sorry about the parent at the game. As if it wasn't hard enough to have the loss! My friend is a coach going through way too much with one parent. She said that parents will be the reason she stops coaching.

Your trip will get here so quickly!! We are currently in the process of administering state tests. (Three sections each of reading and math this week and next. Writing the following week and science the first week of April...after that the school year will fly for us!)

Going back to school can be wonderful!
And I'm a bit of a school snob too.
What are you thinking of studying if you go back?

Curriculum and Instruction. I have decided not to think about it right now. LOL!

Thanks, Anita! It's hard for me to think about her heading off to high school! I swear, we were just starting middle school!

I also have toyed with going back for an advanced degree, but the thought of writing papers just nauseates me....

Same here. I pulled out my portfolio from my Masters degree, and I don't know if I could even write the way I did a few years ago.

Besides with the budget cuts, how could they afford to pay me more?

True. I think that is one reason Georgia has passed this new law to begin with.

If you decide to go to Emory, count me in for a donation to the cause!

I am thinking Berry for my specialist degree now.

The ugly side of soccer (parents) OY!!!
It gets so ugly at little league sometimes. Just like that, not always yelling at the coaches but in the stands. I can't stand it when parents behave like that.

Same here. I wish I could have taped one of the parents from an opposing team we played on Tuesday. He was beyond disrespectful and rude. We could hear him all the way on the field. Sigh.

Dismeets! I can't wait!!!
I just wish you were stowing away on the cruise with us....:rolleyes1

Same here. You know I looked up cruise availability this week -- ALL the cruises in June are now sold out! Can you believe it??? I really would have to be a stowaway now! LOL!

You did! They booked their flights not too long ago so they are definitely going.

How exciting!!!

:rotfl:

Hi, Cynthia! Connor's came in the mail this week (thanks, HD!), and it is great! I really need to find one for myself now!

GO FOR IT! It does sound like a better investment long term to just go for the PhD if that's what you really want.

I am leaning toward to specialist degree now. I found out if I get that, then it counts towards getting a PhD later down the line.

I LOVE the fact that you aren't telling Chelsea. I'd do exactly the same thing to Kendall. She'd KILL me later though.

She is going to kill me. I told Charles about it yesterday, and he laughed and laughed.

Hurray for catching up!!!

Can't wait for the next update.

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2: That is an AWESOME story!!! Totally made my day when I read it! Poor Michelle!

I think if I had to choose, I would choose Indy as well! That hat! Whew! ;)

The Honors Program is at the high school where she will go, so that's good. Luckily, all of her closest friends made it in as well, so they can all suffer together. LOL!

It is always time to head to Disney World!!! :dance3:

Unlike you, I have no desire to do any more schooling or paper writing for a while. I took two classes (online) the past two spring semesters to update, and I was so glad that I had to only take those two. I'm good now for a few years. :thumbsup2

I really am not looking forward to having to write more papers. I wonder how many of them I can manage to make some Disney reference in?

We saw some of that this weekend, some parents are just out of control with what they feel comfortable yelling out at a 10 year old baseball game :sad2:

It is ridiculous! There was one parent of a player on an opposing team who was out of control on Tuesday. If I could have, I would have marched right over and given him a piece of my mind.

With HD's trip report, I am really champing at the bit to take a cruise now! It looks like so much fun!!!

I have also been reading along but have been quiet on here. I hope to add a dis meet with you at Siesta's. Lots of luck figuring out the school thing. I think it is awesome. Where was your bacherlors/masters from?

A DIS meet at Siesta's would be so perfect! I can't wait to be basking in the sun under the pyramid! :lovestruc

I'm a little late to the game but wanted to say

CONGRATS CHELSEA!! WTG on making the Honors program!! That is fantastic!!!!

I too have thought about going back to school to get my PhD but I keep thinking I want to do it in Science not Education LOL!

Thanks, Jen! This whole going-back-to-school thing is really preying on my mind. I just can't get excited about it no matter how hard I try.

Thanks, Debby! Yes, here in our county, the students have to apply to the honors program. I guess in the past, too many students would take the higher level classes and not succeed in them. :confused3

With the new ruling in Georgia, if you aren't in an advanced degree program by this summer, you will not be paid for said degree unless you are in a job that requires it. Since I am happiest in the classroom, it makes the most sense for me to go ahead and get the specialist degree so I am paid for it.

Sorry about the parent at the game. As if it wasn't hard enough to have the loss! My friend is a coach going through way too much with one parent. She said that parents will be the reason she stops coaching.

I hear that a lot from coaches. Charles has had his fair share of parents that want to question his coaching techniques before, but this is the first one who actually verbally attacked him in front of the players and other parents.

Your trip will get here so quickly!! We are currently in the process of administering state tests. (Three sections each of reading and math this week and next. Writing the following week and science the first week of April...after that the school year will fly for us!)

Our state tests are the third week of April, and then, it is all downhill from there!

One day (hopefully today or tomorrow), I will have a real update! I have even put it on my to-do list. LOL!

In the meantime, I have a funny story...

Last night we took the kids to eat at Henry's Louisiana Grill in Acworth. It is a fabulous Cajun/Creole/New Orleans restaurant with an amazing menu. Chef Henry is from Louisiana, and the restaurant makes you feel like you are right in the middle of the French Quarter. Chef Henry visits all the tables and hands out Mardi Gras beads. The place was featured on Nightline and everything. Well, Charles had a craving for it yesterday and secured us an 8:15 reservation. We had been for our anniversary in October, but it was the first time for the kids.

They loved it! Connor was cracking us up all decked out in his beads and dancing away to the jazz music.

Being at Henry's always makes me crave a trip to New Orleans. This morning I said to Charles, "So, we could skip Disney this year, and take the kids to New Orleans." (I must confess I had visions of eating beignets at Cafe du Monde and taking Connor to Preservation Hall to hear real N'awlins jazz.)

Charles gave me the MOST withering look I have ever seen and said, "No."

Alrighty then...:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2: Disney it is. ;) (And really, even if Charles had said okay, we all know I wouldn't have been happy giving up Disney and our DIS meets.)

:rotfl:...I was going to pass out if you traded the Disney trip for New Orleans..:rotfl:

Whew! Glad to hear Charles is the only sane one!

If it's beignets you crave ...go to POFQ! ;)

No offense to New Orleans...I've been there and it was a fun weekend trip.

I kinda had the same conversation with Lexi this week.

She asked me why we weren't going anywhere this week for March break.
I said to her... it's your choice NY city for your bday or doing something this week.
She very vocally said "I pick New York!"
Wasn't a doubt in my mind. :rotfl2:
