Both of my kids want to go to Senor Frog's. This is the first cruise that we've taken that they are old enough to go by themselves, but we have never gotten off of the ship in Nassau (we've taken a separate vacation to Atlantis and didn't really care for Nassau). Should they bring their passports? Is there currency exchange there for their drinks or should they just use a CC?

Thanks!

I think you can do exchange onboard at Guest Services, and the rate would probably be better than at Senor Frogs. I would recommend exchanging and taking a specific amount of money that's plenty for a good time, but not so much that it might attract attention of others who might want share your kids' generosity, either inside or after they leave, when they might be in a less vigilant condition.
I would hesitate to use a credit card in Nassau. I've never taken mine off the ship there. The State Department has put out notices of cc fraud there.

I have used US dollars in Nassau with no problem. You do get change in Bahamian dollars though. Like a PP said no way would I use my credit card.

Also no way would I have them take their passports. Sounds like a good way to lose ‘em while intoxicated. :) Senor Frogs is in eyesight of the ship so if for some reason they needed to get the passport they’d be right there. I’d just bring driver’s license.

Gotcha, very helpful, thanks!
They do have pictures of their passports on their phones...

Just make VERY sure they know when to be back. Going off first time on their own and the probability of alcohol...could be a recipe for starring in a "drunk pier runners" video or worse looking up to see the ship pulling off into the sunset.

You're right, of course...DD has taken cruises to Mexico during college so I'm hopeful that she will have enough sense to get back on board. Worst case I'll send DH to get them.
She relates a story about her spring break trip to Mexico where some inebriated fraternity boys jumped off the pier and started swimming to ship? Also several went to "cruise jail" (the brig). Not Disney needless to say...

Tell them an earlier time and hide the Navigator with the actual all-aboard time? :P

Actually I thought that there WAS one time in Nassau when a teen/college-age boy jumped OFF the Dream and swam to shore...got intercepted when he tried to reboard (apparently he forgot to jump with his ID or KTTW card or both) and went to ship jail.

No joke - one of my girlfriends notoriously waits until the VERY LAST MINUTE to do anything or leave for anywhere. So, on CC day, I told everyone the time that we needed to head back to the boat (which was about 30 minutes earlier than we really needed to) JUST to make sure that we weren't having to race to the ship.

And SURE ENOUGH, we're boarding the tram to head back to the ship and she realizes that she forgot something. We got to enjoy her racing up the pier and being the last person to board the ship from our balcony.

I recently talked to a fellow cruiser in Nassau who had only recently returned home from a business trip there. He was telling me near the port area is a pirate bar that was a lot of fun. Thought I’d mention it in case your Senior Frogs gang might enjoy a stop there as well. 8-)

Just stopped here on Tuesday, and it was kind of a waste. I’m 32 btw, if that matters. Had a Patron margarita “Yard” and Chicken tacos and my bill was $60. The margarita was horrible and the food was worse than Cabanas.

I’ve been here several other times and it was enjoyable, but on Tuesday I just wanted to leave ASAP. The front entrance is under construction so the usual photo ops weren’t there, and it was just so-so. Wasn’t worth the hassle of getting off the boat to do.

I paid with American cash. Tell your daughter to pay attention to the auto gratuity they automatically add.
