Seniors

I'm 64, single and make 5 trips a year to WDW, 3 solo and 2 with kids and grandkids. Solo trips are for golf, food, drink and relaxation.

We are a 50's couple...we go every year ..this year twice but we generally only stay a few days...we also cruise...we would love to take our grandchildren...but first we will have to get our children married off and so far no luck, hence no grandchildren.
We go to Epcot and DHS and AK, every trip we usually only go to one park.
We never rent a car and consider the bus rides and waiting for the buses part of the adventure. Sometimes you meet nice folks and sometimes you meet overtired children.
We make ADR's and do the DDP and if possible if we have a split ressie we do the DxDDP for one or two days and this gives us enough extra table services to have a 2 TS meal or two and maybe a nice breakfast as well.
We go to the gym at SSR. ( After all those meals we need to)
This year we are going to do the Segway tour at Ft. Wilderness and a Wishes Cruise. We are also going to ICE at Gaylord Palms. We always visit Yeeha Bob at POR. In the past we have done Illuminations Cruise with friends we met on the boards. Arranged the cruise thru the boards.
We have ridden bikes from SSR to OKW and back. We have gone to Cirque. We like DTD and always spend at least 1/2 day there.
We feel like there is still a ton we have not done and that's OK we don't want to run out of new things to do. So we only do a few things , one park a few good meals...and spend lots of time by the pool. OK we spend a fair amount of time on the bus too! Occasionally we take a taxi to or from dinner. Once we got a private bus ride from a bus driver that was technically off duty but felt sorry for us because we had been waiting forever. We didn't have the heart to tell him we really were in no rush. He would not accept a tip. These are the little ( and not so little) things that make it a fun experience for us.
If you have never cruised there is a bit of a learning curve and if you can hook up with an experienced couple it really helps. We were blessed to meet some now good friends and they were experienced cruisers. They planned everything, I know it made all the difference for us.

We are over 50 ;) and go to WDW often. However, we do not consider ourselves "seniors" by any means. :thumbsup2

I do go solo quite a bit, as DH does not have the time off that I do.

I believe this board is for adults AND solos. I know many solos who are married/partnered, etc.

we're over 50 yrs old too and we DO NOT consider ourselves as "seniors"!
What the heck!!!!!!!!:goofy:

dh & i are 53.
we go at least 1x a year, & enjoy:
mini-golf (a must do!)
having an ice cream & hanging out on the boardwalk (we stay at the bwv's)
going to the outlets
eating off-site, as well as on
tours (love segways!)
chatting with other ppl, especially on the buses
hanging out at the quiet pool (less kidlets)
walking around epcot
resort hopping

we don't spend a lot of time on rides (been there, done that ;) ), but take each day as it comes.
veeeeeeeeery relaxing :cloud9:

i'm 50 and my DH is 65. We have been to Disney about four times in the last year and are going again the first of December. I find the adult trips much more relaxing than with kids.

We LOVE hanging out in the hammocks at either the GF, Poly or Contempo. We enjoy the leisurely dinners at a sit down. We enjoy NOT feeling like we have to commando tour the parks. Our last trip (with record heat for October) we spent a lot of time just reading in our room, at the pool, and doing some nightlife. It was a different kind of Disneytrip but we loved it.

I'm over 55 years young and have been to WDW many times over the years with family and thought I couldn't love Disney more. Recently I have been to the world twice - solo - and found it was even MORE fun! Doing what I wanted, when I wanted, changing plans without a big discussion, going to three parks in a day, or no parks in a day -priceless!! I love my family and will still treasure my visits with them, but I will still wrangle a few days a year to go by myself, just for ME! :woohoo:

Aren't there any couples out there over 55 going to Disney, or is everyone on this thread single/solo?????

It seems like lots of posters have misread this. It looks to me like you want to hear from over 55 couples NOT solos.

Anyway DH and I are 60. In Sept. we took our 8th trip to WDW in 12 years. We go by ourselves, except in 2004 when DS (then 26) and DD (then 22) came along. We love going by ourselves. We know just what we want to do and see, and do it at the pace we want to. We love eating at the various restaurants and try to find a new 1 each trip. Last trip we splurged on Narcoossee's. It was great. We do almost all of the rides.

The more people in a group, the harder it is to keep everyone happy. DH and I are very happy to go as a couple.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

we are 54 and 52 and we go every year ,dont tell anyone but its better without the kids .we do everything as we would if they were there but it is so much more relaxing because you dont have to ,maybe i should feel guilty but i dont.anyway we are having a family vacation in july including grandkids and we cant wait.

Dh and I are both 54 and we spent 4 days in AUg just the two of us. It was wonderful even with a bum foot and bum knee.

I love all these responses! Let's keep it going. I also do not consider myself a "senior" because my heart is young. Why don't we just share some of the cool things we do at Disney? Our little habits or rituals if you will. It could be that wonderful hot tub at the pool at 11 pm with a plastic cup with wine ;)---strolling Epcot at night when the park is closing...sitting at BCV beaches watching Illuminations ... again .... best spots to stop and rest in the parks...it's wide open folks!

I qualify as both a solo visitor, and part of a couple. DH (58) and I (57) go to WDW every year, usually spring. In addition, I take one, sometimes 2 solo trips. I'm the bigger Disney nut in the family, so I go there every chance I get! For DH, once a year is plenty and even then his occasional trips tothe parks are supplemented with lots of golf.

In our 60's and have been going by ourselves since 1995, since 2002 as DVC members. Just came back from trip # 13 as DVC members. Went alone and had a great time. Just booked a trip for May of 2010. Some of our grown kids and their families have gone at the same time, but do not stay with us. On our trips alone, we do whatever we feel like doing. He spends a lot of time at ESPN. I go to Downtown Disney to shop.

Since the Villas is next to the back entrance to Epcot and that is our favorite park, we go back and forth a lot. My husband likes to walk around the Boardwalk and along the path to Hollywood Studios and back. If it's hot, I go in the pool. I walk around and take pictures. We like dinner at Shula's at the Dolphin and Il Mulino at the Swan. LOVE the Boardwalk at night. Often go for a nightcap at the lounge in the Boardwalk hotel. Some days we hotel hop and visit the ones along the monorail.

Our favorite times to go are May and Oct./Nov. This past trip, I auditioned for American Idol at Hollywood Studios. Also went to see the Princess Diana Exhibit at the West Side.

LOVE DISNEY!!

Aren't there any couples out there over 55 going to Disney, or is everyone on this thread single/solo?????

maybe the mods.. at first... thought there were so few "adults only" enjoying WDW, that we were all lumped into one big category (adults, solos, etc).
and it had become a singles, solo thread .

there needs to be a category for adults. not singles or solos. (that would be a separate category) I wouldn't "label" it "seniors". (even though hubby and I are 53 and 55) many young adult enjoy WDW without children, often on honeymoons)
but, a thread that doesn't talk about kids all the time (and believe me,I LOVE my grandkids)
a thread in which they understand that WDW is not JUST for kids, (yes,it's for kids; it's just not JUST for kids!)
yes, a separtate singles, OR solo thread is great. not the some thing.

We're going on 62. Last year, we went to Disney and on Disney cruises 3 times. This year, I went once alone and we went once together. All my 40+ trips have been as an adult with no kids. What can I tell you, that you don't already know? It's GREAT!

Single...52 - soon to be 53 and I go down at least twice a year! :cool1:

DH and I are in our 60's. We go to WDW around 5-6 times a year, sometimes as a couple, and sometimes with family. We enjoy both very different kinds of vacations.

We'll next be there for Marathon weekend. Only my DSis will be participating, but we'll be there to cheer her on! We have a Pirate Wishes cruise to celebrate 4 of our birthdays that happen in the holiday season!

Bobbi:goodvibes

DH & I (both 57) go at least once a year, normally in May for Flower & Garden. We Love the Flower Power concerts.
We took our daughter with us until 2000, when she went off to college. She whined at us last year, so did a bounce back trip in 2008 and took her with us.

We do one of the tours every trip. We've done the AK Backstage & the Segways twice. When we can afford to stay Club level, we do the special Animal Safari that is offered to CL guests.

We also eat very well when we are at WDW. We are working our way thru all the great TS restaurants. Every trip we add one or two new ones.

Our favorite resort is Boardwalk. Aren't as many children and excellent access to epcot & DHS.

Thanks to everyone for their response. Yes, it was my intent to generate a discussion of "mature" couples.

DH (53) and myself (56) both deny being seniors. My husband still complains about white heads lack of driving skills. (Has he looked in the mirror lately, he has a full head of snow white hair):rotfl:

We are going on the 2nd trip to WDW without family in 17 days to celebrate our 30th anniversary. . We like to walk around and do all the rides. Yes the intense ones are the best R&R Coaster, ToT, Space Mountain. etc. Love going thru the shops, which could get expensive as I like to buy for our GD princess Melody (4), bless her litte heart. We have the dining plan as we love TS dining. We actually got a table for Le Celliar in Epcot. I am looking forward to our first trip to the boardwalk too. I purposely left a day open just for that.

My DH, (76) and I (69) usually go to WDW every winter, and to DL in the fall. I figure we've logged about 20 trips, will be staying on property for the first time in our upcoming trip.
