Senior Trip

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did you go on a Senior Trip?

We did not have them. Travelling from small town USA would have been too expensive and it just was not something we did. Instead we watched all the movie: Spring Break, Porkeys, Valley Girl, Fast Times. Okay I AM dating myself.

It is in style that most kids here rent a house on the ocean in North or South Carolina, An over achiever, take chage of it all supet mom eill br taking thd boys to look at possible houses to rent. She usually takes over until its time to collect the money, etc, This she will proabably put on my plate. Don't get me started on her expectations of what each boy is responsible for, as its her rules.

So does your children participate? What is the average cost, including room, board, extra, etc.

Thanks in advance/

I did not take a senior trip. My siblings went to Europe through a school trip (not an option when I graduated)

My oldest went with three friends to Santa Barbara. Very budget-they "camped out" in a relatives family room (single uncle, so "cool" for the guys)

Daughter graduates in May. I exchanged a timeshare week for her and three girlfriends in San Diego. I made the same offer for oldest but he and his friends didn't make their plans that early. (DD and her friends planned in October!!!!! They expect to play at the beach and go to Old Town..... Anything budget. Sea World and the zoo are probably out

It wasn't offered in my school back in 1976.

In both the high school where I teach, and the one where my husband teaches, the Senior Trip is to WDW!! The kids know about it well in advance, and start saving as freshmen if necessary. We normally send about 500 kids; my husband's school sends close to 400. They have a fabulous time!

I would be very hesitant to let my son or daughter go on a trip like the one you described. That mom who is collecting the money-- will she be at that house while the kids are there? As I read it, you're having a large group of kids renting a house with no supervision? (Or did I misread it?)

It just seems like a huge problem waiting to happen.

My DS is going on his senior trip next year. They are doing a WWII tour thru Europe. It is $4500 per kid going.

My daughter is going to France and Italy over spring break through school. She is not a senior but a sophmore and this will be the only time they offer it while she is in highschool. We live in a very small town and they only have about 25 kids going. It was around $3400 minus spending $, which I thought was a great price for a great experience! Added bonus my last payment for the trip is next month, yay! My husband and I never did anything like this in highschool or would have even thought to ask, neither one of our parents had a lot of $. We aren't well off by any means but I'm happy to be able to send my daughter on a trip like this!

We are in a very small town and while some go on a senior trip...most do not. Those who plan their own with a group of friends, usually go to the beach. The band has a trip every other year...last one to Chicago and this time to NYC. It runs about $500. Our school also offers a trip to Europe every other year and the trip runs about $4000 per student. My DS did not participate in any type of senior trip...he could have cared less. His summer jobs were in full swing by the time he graduated and he was all about how much money he could make in one summer. My DD participated in the Chicago trip two years ago. While we saw a lot of things...the trip was very rushed and we hopped from one place to the other. She opted not to go to NYC because her best friend was not going. We decided to take her and her friend to NYC because we could stay longer and be in control of the itinerary. It was more cost effective to plan our own trip.

DD19 graduated from a vocational high school last year and there was no senior trip. DD17 graduates from the town high school this year and there is no senior trip there either.

DD17 is going to France for two weeks in early February as an exchange student. We had the French students here in October when Hurricane Sandy hit and they had to stay an extra week. This trip cost us $1,700.

Like another poster DH and I never went on a big trip while in high school (I did go to Quebec and Washington DC while DH didn't go anywhere). It thrills us that we can afford this trip for DD. Having the house to ourselves for 2 weeks is an added bonus!

Well I guess I did go on two small trips in HS, one to NYC and one to Boston, Mass but they didn't cost very much, my husband also did not go anywhere. I must say that I'm a bit jealous because I still have two other kids to ship off if I want the house to ourselves!:lmao: And I think the 7 and 8 year old are a little young for Europe on their own!

I went to Europe for my senior trip - my parents wanted me to have fun - but also have a little culture.

Nobody I know went on a senior trip in 2006. Maybe because while I went to a school with excellent grades and teachers, it was in a poorish area so there was no parental involvement. There were never trips out of state or even out of the country or after-prom parties like I heard people from richer districts got to do when I got to college. If something had been arranged I'm sure my parents could have sent me but there wasn't anything.

The only thing a lot of seniors did was go to "senior week" in Ocean City which was horrifyingly dangerous and full of underage drinking and people getting hurt. Obviously even if I'd wanted to go (I wasn't a party kid at all) there's no way my parents would have let me.

My senior class trip in 1987 was to WDW. My graduation present from my grandmother was a trip to France.

This is the way things were where I grew up too. Three of my best friends and I went to WDW for 4 days instead. My parents were actually thrilled that I suggested this as an alternative to the usual senior week stuff. If I remember correctly, my dad paid for my flight and hotel room, I was responsible for my own park tickets and food. I don't know what the other girls' parents did, but when you split 4 nights at All Star Movies 4 ways, it's not a very expensive trip. We had a blast and still talk about it 10 years later!

Our school doesn't do senior trips. They do DC as 8th graders and that's it. Some kids get together and plan trips together.

No senior trips when I was in HS but we not only had a senior prom, we had a formal graduation. Girls were in long white evening gowns carrying long stem red roses. Boys in white dinner jackets with red boutonnière After graduation we boarded busses for a dinner dance at a country club. This was a public HS in town.

My DS went to WDW through school for senior trip. They take them in the spring.....usually April for 5 days at ASSp. May is prom and June is graduation. The trip is about $1000 and you can start making payments as a freshman

Tradition around here is for seniors after prom to rent houses for the weekend at the shore. Either ocean city or wildwood.

I went on my senior trip and it was to...............WALT DISNEY WORLD, at that time it was just the Magic Kingdom and they still had ticket books if that tells you anything about my age!!!!!!!! Haven't stopped going back at least every 12-18 months since then, in fact I was just there 10 weeks ago and couldn't bear the thought that I didn't have a trip to plan until next year, so a few days ago I put together a short trip for spring break with a 5 yr old great nephew, 14 yr old nephew, 73 yr old mother and my best friend.............just shoot me now!

Dd's school doesn't do a senior trip and none of her friends or anyone have brought up doing any such thing. We're actually leaving for DC for a week with her grandmother right after she graduates in May, but that's just timing for a family trip, not a graduation trip.

She did DC in 8th grade, and the band did Cleveland two years ago for a weekend trip, but that's it. (And DC cost us $800. There's no way we would have paid thousands of dollars for a European trip for her. That's not remotely in our budget, and probably not in the budget of 90% of her classmates' families, either, which is probably why her school doesn't do anything like that.)

I went with 5 of my friends on the Disney Wonder for 4 nights, and WDW for 3 days after we graduated High School. One of the girls I went with, she and I will get together and STILL talk about that trip. I had to pay for half of it, my parents paid for the other half as a graduation/you survived surgery twice gift. A couple of the girls had the whole thing paid for by parents a couple paid for the whole thing themselves. I think I was the only 50/50. I was a great time and I am so thankful I have that memory. I still talk to four of the five girls!

The schools here have done a senior cruise since forever. About a 4th of the students actually go on it. DS didn't care to go and DD wanted to but other circumstances prevented it.

We went on various trips to Europe during middle school and high school, one of which was Senior year, but it wasn't a "senior trip" per se - there were non-senior kids on the trip too and we were with teachers the majority of the time. We didn't have a wacky senior trip full of craziness or anything. We had our senior prom and then a week later my school threw a big Senior BBQ/mini carnival thing, that was about it.

I would have loved to go on a senior trip on Disney cruiselines, that sounds incredible!

My school did not have an official Senior Trip, but everyone I know did an informal one. My school's tradition was that you rented a place in Pensacola, a 4 hour drive away. Most people grouped up with their friends and rented a house for the week between the time we got out of school and graduation.

With us, all of the parents left everything in our hands to manage, except we did get the help of one father who drove down with us and checked us into the house. He then left. :cool1:

While we did get into some trouble ;), we were generally good kids...
