DD18's senior skip day is today but she went to school anyway. :goodvibes I didn't make her go but I encouraged her to and she made the right decision.
I skipped on my senior skip day, 23 years ago :scared1:, and I don't think my parents knew.
Would you or have you let your senior skip school on their senior skip day?

When I was in high school the senior "skip" day was on the school calendar :lmao:. DS18's senior skip day was the same day that his college had for him to come sign up for classes so he missed that day but didn't really "skip". It is usually the Friday before Spring Break.

You bet I did. My parents knew and didn't care. It was and I believe still is the Friday before Memorial Weekend which was when we all headed to the OBX :goodvibes

Ummm...it depends. We didn't have an "official" Senior Skip day (basically there was no one day all Seniors were going to skip -- we pretty much all decided whatever day we wanted to use. In our case, we waited until the first very nice spring day! Why skip on a day it's raining or icky weather?)but I DID do one -- my mom called in for me but wouldn't lie so said I was "out of town". I was...I was in the next town over going to a park for a picnic and just hanging out with a couple other friends.

It really was the most who cares day ever. The only thing was my abscense was "unexcused" vs. "excused" and I knew there were no major tests or anything, so the only thing was I wouldn't be able to turn in any homework and get credit.

Considering I never skipped a day of school in my life up to that point, I don't see it as that big of a deal. I mean there were kids who skipped way more than I did NORMALLY throughout their HS career and got a diploma just as much as I did.

I skipped. Here in Fl, we would go to the beach for the day. It was tradition. I told my mom that it was senior skip day and that we were going to the beach, she asked me who was driving and said that she would tell the school I was sick when they called.

If it is still around when my kids are seniors, I 100% would let them do it. It is no big deal and I really feel like it is a right of passage and yep, I would lie to the school and say they were sick.

Well, I was going to comment that I skipped with my parents' consent. But now I am wondering if I did or not.

My mom had given me one freebie skip day a year since 3rd grade, so I know for certain she would have not objected to it. But I just don't really know what I did.:confused3

I have no objection to the tradition.

It's gloomy and rainy today so there's nothing much to do for the kids anyway. Plus, she missed a day last week due to a fever so I'm glad she went today.

My DD just finished all her AP exams (5 in all !) and is really done with everything. I don't have a problem with senior skip day. She has worked her patootie off all year. As for the school, they are handling it by asking seniors to get a note from their parents in at least two days prior to the 'skip' day. They are going to randomly pull letters to call parents and verify. Beyond that, if you have a parent's note in on time, the seniors are permitted to leave for the day.

DD went to school on senior skip day and her English teacher gave everyone 80 points for being there. :goodvibes There were only three kids that showed up in her class. She would have missed, but she is out of parent notes and she is trying to make sure she doesn't miss anything while they are getting ready for finals.

Schools around here make it official and plan a day at a water park after 'senior breakfast.'

When I was in HS, our senior skip day went to Great Adventure...what a great time we had!

Well it seems that around here they have Senior skip day every Friday towards the end of the year. Now this Friday is Senior Honors Day and after that the Seniors can leave.

I can't believe that I have a child graduating this year. :sad1: I'm getting old!:rotfl2:

Yep, I skipped with my parents' consent and dd skipped with mine. :thumbsup2

No, my parents would have broken my hands. Skip day actually wasn't that big a deal for most of the kids I knew. It was at the end of the year, so we were coasting anyway in addition to having had a huge shake up with the previous senior classes over skip day (most of those seniors skipped and had the senior picnic taken away). From what I remember, most of the kids that normally were out of school senior year came in on Skip Day.

My dad was a high school principal and skip day was the only day the administrators were answering the phones directly ("**** High School, can I help you?"). They would say okay, but we don't endorse this and it's not a school sanctioned event, so if anything happens the school isn't responsible.

As for my own kids, I'll deal with it when I get there.

I would have been killed if I had skipped but I would let my kids do it. High school is not the end all be all. Unless they were having some very important tests that day that could not be made up I would even drive them wherever they want to go or give them money for the gas and the day. Have fun while you are young enough to do it.

Our senior skip day was a planned picnic {and I was in Germany, so it was not a "dry" event.} I had no desire to go- my mom and I ended up going shopping for stuff for prom.

I'd let my children participate (well not if the plan was an out of control party! Beach or something- sure.)

I would have let my DD skip in senior year in 2009 but they had a lacrosse game the following day and had to go to practice. She laughed that so many kids would be out except for her teammates. :rotfl:

Yes, I skipped school on Senior Skip Day. We all went to a White Sox game. I don't think it's a big deal to skip one day. I'll allow my DD to skip when the time comes.

Senior skip day here is a day at the creek. The school doesn't approve it so it really is a "skip" day. (they always try to find a part of the creek where they won't be found). Mom let me skip and we had a blast. I let both my sons skip on that day and I will let dd when she gets there.

Its just a fun day to let off steam and one of the last days that the entire class (or most of it) is together.

At my son's high school, the word gets around and everyone skips the same day. In fact the teachers know about it as well and don't plan anything major that day. They don't "condone" it, but they know it happens every year and they don't make it difficult for the kids.
