I am going into my senior year and am getting my senior pictures done this summer. My cat and I are extremely close. She is honestly like my baby. I have had her since I was about 5 and she is really MY cat. She follows me around the house, will "talk" to me (she meows at me every morning when I am getting ready for school and I'll ask her different questions, just because I feel like talking, and she will meow back), and sleeps with me almost every night. When I'm laying in bed, she will come up and stick her face in mine and cuddle with me. When I'm holding her, she will wrap her paws around me and "hold" onto me. Her and I are virtually inseperable when I am home. In fact, she likes sitting on my lap when I'm DISing and watch the screen, almost like she is reading it. If I say give me kiss, she will tilt her head and push the top of her head towards me and have me kiss the top of her head. Sometimes she will even touch her nose to mine when she's in a good mood.

Anyways, getting to the point of this post. I want to get my senior pictures done with her. Not all of them, obviously, maybe just a couple shots. And I really don't care if we buy the ones with her in them. I just want one copy for myself and honestly, I really think my parents will want one copy with her since they know how close we are, but even if they don't, I still want one for me. My friends and I were talking about senior pictures the other day and I mentioned that I wanted some of mine done with my cat. They all thought it was a dumb idea. They all said that, while they love their pets, they would never get their senior pictures done with them. I've been rationalizing that they don't really know how close me and my cat are, which is why they said that. Even my mom, who I really thought would say that it was dumb, said that if the photographers are willing to do it, having my cat in the pictures would be fine. (My mom's the type that, even though she loves our pets, believes animals are animals and should stay at home. You shouldn't take them out to stores, even pet stores that allow animals.) At first, my dad's reactions was "How are you going to get that cat out of the house? She won't even go into the basement if you carry her." Then I guess he realized that my cat would do anything as long as I'm there. I can take her anywhere and she would be perfectly fine. She might not like it, but she would go and cling to me the whole time.

What do you think about getting my senior pictures done with my cat? Would you let your kids get their senior pictures done with your pets? Again, I don't mean all of my pictures would have my cat in them, it would only be a few shots and probably only buy 1 or 2 copies of one of the shots.

My DD had her senior pictures done yesterday and they encouraged her to bring props that reflect her personality. She was also allowed to bring up to 4 outfits that she can change into. I wanted some casual shots but she would not go for it. That being said, if she had a pet that she was very fond of, I would love to have a picture of her with her pet.
I would not want the cat in the pictures with her cap and gown and/or drape though. :)

I think it is a great idea, simba 928! The photographers encourage people to bring items that express your fondness, and if it is your kitty, then so be it. Better check with them first, but if they say OK, then I say go for it! My daughter had her guitar and other friends had musical instuments or sports stuff... if your love is your kitty then she should be in the photo with you. Good Luck! :)

I know of several people who had their pets in their senior pics, I say if you can get the cat to cooperate to go for it! If it doesn't cooperate, maybe you could take some pics in the backyard afterwards and have one made into a 5x7 for yourself.

Although it's been 10 years since my senior pictures :sad1: , we were also encouraged to show our personality/interests with our pictures. In addition to the "serious" pictures, I had mine done with my dog, my horse, my car, and a bunch of my favorite stuffed animals. I would have loved to get some done with my cats as well, but I had 3 at the time and it would have been difficult to get them all on the same page for the pictures (and I wouldn't choose just one cat). One of my friends had a picture done with her cat and it came out really well.

They are your pictures, you should be able to have whatever you like in them.

Honestly, I think it's weird.. I was really close to my dog when I was in HS (graduated in 2002) but theres no way I'd take my senior picture with her. If my child wanted a cat in their picture, I wouldn't stop it as its their picture but I'd think its wierd.

As long as it's not all of them, I don't think it's weird. At most places, you do a ton of poses and they're a mix of formal and casual ones, so I think having a pet in the casual ones is fine. I know a couple people who had their dogs in a few of their senior pictures.

That probably wouldn't have been permitted for DS's senior pix, but what we did do was purchase a "congratulations" ad and put in 2 pix of DS when he was 2yo and 4 yo. In the 4 yo picture, our beloved dog was curled up with DS with his head in DS's lap. We had to put the dog down in October of DS's senior year, so wanted him in the picture. It came out beautifully.

My former job was as a school photographer. We did senior photos every summer. So I will give you my opinion. I think it would be a very cute photo with you and your cat. But I would call the studio to make sure it is ok with them. You never know if anyone is allergic to cats. Remember these are YOUR senior photos. As long as you get the photos for the yearbook and the ones your parents want, then it is up to you what other photos you have done. I know we only charged a flat sitting fee and it did not matter how many shots a senior had taken. I personally have done senior photos with dogs, horses and even a snake!

I think its a great idea. I wish I could have done that with my first dog. I got her from a shelter when i was 17 and had her until I was 31. I love a post like this.

At our high school that my son goes to , we can take a formal picture or just take a regular picture for the yearbook. You can even take your own.

Go for it!:thumbsup2

My son graduated tonight!:woohoo: He had his beagle in one of his Senior photos and it was a great shot! I had it blown up to a 5x7 and also had wallets made. They were outside at the Park, alongside a creek. Many of his friends had photos taken with their pets as well, including both cats and dogs. Some were inside shots, others outside.

I don't think it's weird at all. I have a copy of a professional kindergarten photo of myself with my childhood dog that I still treasure. I would never feel that way about a photo of just me.

Obviously it won't be the photo that goes in the yearbook, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's one your parents buy to display.

Go for it!

People take their wedding photos w/their pet (I did one w/my cat), so why not senior photos?!?!

If kids are allowed to bring their pom-poms, basketball, soccer ball, etc. why not your pet!? DS10 had his Spring photo taken at school and had his lacrosse stick and gloves as his props!

You sound so much like my daughter and the bond she has with her cat.
They are inseperatable when she is home, where she is he is.
She talks to him all the time and they are really quite a pair. Its so cool to see and I know she is only going to be a freshmen, but I think it would be a great idea to have the picture done together come senior picture time.

My cousin just graduated from high school this year. She received a Yorkie as her graduation gift (she'd been begging her dad for one). She took senior pics with the Yorkie...she even sent one of those out with her announcements. :) We received the cap/gown, the serious pic, and then the casual pic with the yorkie.

My DS needs to get his senior pics this summer too. We've already talked about having a couple of shots with his dog. She's his buddy and #1 hunting dog. I don't think it's strange at all to have your animal in the pic. I wish I could have had my horse in mine but 20 some odd :rolleyes1 years ago they didn't do senior pics with animals...

OMG in my town your veiwed as ODD if you DONT have at least one pic with your pet. Had a freind who got his done with his snake. Got my college grad ones (tech school certificate grad) done with my baby of the time (bosco). I love my boz. Cant wait to graduate college (2 year criminal justice I think) and get one done with both my kids (cats, boz and bandit).
Your cat sounds like my bandit. She fallows me around, sleeps on the bed anytime im in my room and sleeps on my legs every night. Shes got peedar. Anytime your in the bathroom, she comes RUNNING and waits to be petted. She and I kiss (bump noses) all the time. Shes spoiled and knows it. lol

I had my dog in 2 poses of my senior pics. I had wanted a pug forever, and I finally had one (he was almost a year when I had the pics taken). I'm really glad I have them - he passed away about 9 months later from a liver defect. They came out really well.

I didn't put the dog pictures in my yearbook, or have them blown up, but we do have them in the portfolio with several different poses and I think I got a 5x7 for myself.

I was looking at my son's yearbook yesterday and noticed a senior picture that included a young lady with her goat. There were 2 others with pets too.

When my sister had her senior pictures made several years ago, she had her picture made with her Cocker Spaniel. It was just for a few shots but they turned out great. It was one of our favorites of her senior pics. Now several years later, Thunder (the Cocker Spaniel) has passed away and she is very glad she had her picture made with him.

I think it is a great idea.
