Sending Teenager for Senior Week???

Sending my teenage daughter (18yrs old) and 4 of her friends to Beach and Yacht club for senior week. My wife and I felt it would be much, much safer than the Jersey shore (remembering my senior week). Just looking for ideas and thoughts regarding this. Any previous problems or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Every kid is different. If these are responsible young people with a respect for others, I don't really see a problem. If they are just dying for the chance to get away from mom and dad to raise a little h---, then I would take issue with it. If I had spent a bundle on a hotel room, I wouldn't want my vacation ruined by the loud, partying neighbors. On the same note, if they are considerate of their neighbors and genuinely out for a good time without being destructive, I would not have a problem being the neighbor of 4 18 year olds.

Sounds like you are great parents!!! My guess is that kids that would rather be at WDW than the beach for Senior week are mature enough to behave themselves. I would have a talk with ALL of them about resect for others, repsonsibility and safety issues before they go. Wish someone had done this for me!!!

What is senior week? Is it something local? Are there other kids from the same school going? Just wondering because I've never heard of it before!

In my neck of the woods (metro DC area) the week the high school seniors graduate they head for Ocean City, MD ... where they run amuck.

Actually most of the kids are just high-spirited, but there are some that spend "senior week" getting drunk.

And "senior week" actually lasts 2-3 weeks due to different graduation dates.

Unfortunately I'll be in Ocean City during my county's senior week ... sure hope the condo above ours isn't rented out to teens this time as I'm looking for peace and quiet!

Gillian, Memaw2Wm hit the nail on the head as for the description. Up here in Philly most of the high school graduates head for the s. jersey shore the week after they graduate. A ton of partying and sunbathing. My daughter is quite responsible and I don't think she would get out of hand, either place. I guess the temptations are less in WDW than they would be "down the shore". Hence the reason I am sending her there. I trust the security and family atmosphere will dampen any thoughts of partying.

As someone who went to Senior Week 2 years in a row.......the thought of my children going down to OC and doing the things I did plain scare me!!! There are people drinking and partying and having sex all over the place during that time (which is actually more like a month than a week). There is obviously much more clean fun at WDW!

In addition to what the others have said........here in MD, the seniors graduate 2-4 weeks before the rest of school gets out. In my district, graduation is tonight, and the rest of the school gets out June 21st. I didn't realize all places didn't do it like that til I moved to NY for a few years, and their poor seniors have to suffer with the rest of the hs kids all the way til the last day of Regents exams. Anyway, they get a head start on their summer, and OC is nothing more than party city during that time.

If you trust your child, WDW seems safer than a beach locale. I do remember another poster mentioned that a lot of kids from her daughter's school go to Cancun after graduation. She wanted to send her & friends on a Disney Cruise. Too much to worry about! I'm glad my kid is only 2!!

WDW is a better decision than Jersey. We went to Wildwood for our Senior Week. Although I wasn't into drinking there were plenty of people who were. This was 21 years ago. I think WDW is much safer than the shore.

I think your daughter and her friends would have a wonderful time. You and your wife should go down and have a vacation for yourselves too! Just not staying at the same place, I'm sure your daughter would be rolling her eyes at that idea, hehe. But I think WDW is a great atmosphere and not as wild as the Jersey Shore. There will be less teenagers there as well, so she's less likely to get into trouble. Nice to hear that you trust your daughter and her friends. But I would always be cautious. Lots of parents say "My son/daughter would never do that". I'm sure the parents of the kids in the hazing incident were saying the same thing...

I was in WDW my senior year as part of a class my senior year. My friends and I had a great time. i admit we did get rowdy at times, but there was no drinking in our group. However, at the hotel we were staying at there was a group of teenagers that got some older guys to buy alcohol for them. Anything is possible, and teenagers will always find a way to get around the rules... I'm 22 so my teenage years are still a vivid memory!!!

If I were you I might call the front desk of the BYC before the trip, and give them a number where you can be reached. So in case the girls do get rowdy or get complaints from other guests, you'll know and can set things straight. I hope she and her friends have a great time! At least you don't have to worry about Cancun just yet...
