Hello--My DH and I are giving my son and his best friend a trip to WDW next August for graduation. They both will be 18, and between the 2 of them, they have been to WDW over 2 dozen times. I am curious about a hotel that would be ok for them. DS wants to stay at Coronado Springs. I am looking at Pop Century because of the increase in families at the hotel. The one he is interested in is more adultish/conventions so I would worry more.

I am interested in a few words of advice on this. We were considering Disney Transportation from the airport, but DH mentioned using a limo instead.

Any additional advice or thought would be great!

Thanks!

Wendy

Not going to be much help other than to suggest you might get more help for this on the Adults and Solo travelers board, since your son and his buddy will actually be adults. This board seems to be mostly about young children.

I've stayed at Coronado Springs and would definitely recommend that as a "safe" place for them. It is primarily adults there for conventions, I'd say most without families, so the whole resort has a quiet, business atmosphere to it. If I were sending my son (but he's 14 so we have a little while at least!), I'd feel he'd be less likely to get in any kind of trouble here. Plus the pools are usually pretty empty (everyone's in meetings), the buses were completely empty when we were on them, and you still get all the Disney conveniences of transportation, food court, waterslide, etc.

Never stayed at POP, but believe it compares to All Stars which I've been to several times. This will be much louder, wilder, and crowded. My concern would be that due to the amount of unsupervised teenagers and younger college age students, alcohol would be more freely available if this is at all an issue. If your son is responsible and you'd never worry about this, POP might be more of a fun place for him to stay. There is always something going on even late at night so if he and his friend just want to hang at the pool or food court, they wouldn't feel uncomfortable doing so. Everything will be more crowded, but often to teenagers this seems to be a plus!

Good luck - sounds like a wonderful trip and I'm guessing he must be a great kid for you to consider it!

Why does he want to stay at Coronado Springs? I guess that would be an important factor. I have never stayed there but if what the above poster says is true they may be more comfortable at POP. Even very good 18 yr olds tend to be more boisterous and laughing than middle aged people at conventions. At Pop they won't feel like they are imposing on someone coming home at 12 or going to the pool at 11. It is much more easy going. I don't think you can go wrong at any Disney place so I would set the budget and let him look at all the Hotels and decide. I'm sure they will have fun no matter where they stay! and at that age they will probably only be in the room to shower and sleep.

Thanks! Will certainly ask why Coronado, and will look around for more info!
