Sending luggage to resort ahead of time?!?

I just read that you can send your luggage (UPS?) to the resort before you arrive?! Is this true? Has anyone acutally done this? Did it work out okay? The idea sounds great. What if it arrives before you do?

Be sure you check the cost to ship packages. It is amazingly expensive. It could be over $60 for a full 50lb box. There are services that ship luggage- to the tune of over $150 per normal size bag.
Additionally there are recent reports of Disney resorts charging guests for packages shipped to the resort. They have now hired an outside company to deal with incoming and outgoing parcels and there is a fee per box/package. This is factual- not just rumor. The factual 100% implementation date is the only question unanswered.
(I have no idea if this applies to local grocery deliveries- probably not.)

I just did this on January 6th. I shipped my luggage in a box (not the suitcase) via UPS. It was 23 lbs (I also had snacks, coffee, an over the door shoe holder for holding all of our "stuff") etc. and it cost me $16.00 to ship it UPS Ground from Wisconsin. We stayed at POR and they did not charge me to accept the package. I checked my bill, there were no charges on it. When I shipped it home, they did charge an extra $5.00 to process and ship it, which they have done in the past and I was prepared for. On the UPS site you can calculate when you need to send your package and about how much it will cost you if you know about how much it will weigh.

I took just a few things in my carryon for overnight in case of flight delays since weather can always change travel plans.

I thought about shipping dry goods to our hotel in '06 before we got there, then it totally slipped my mind. We found a Super WalMart that's not far from the All Star Resorts and packed up on bottled water, crystal light mix, chips, chex mix, cereal, milk, bread, cheese, lunch meat, pop tarts, granola bars, etc. We didn't have a fridge in our room so we bought one of those styrofoam chests to store the milk, cheese, etc. and filled it with ice. Kept everything totally cold so we could make sandwiches and take snacks with us to the park, and we were able to eat cereal and stuff for breakfast before heading out. Of course we didn't do this every day, but it saved us a lot. So instead of shipping items, we plan to go to WalMart again in June on the day we arrive to pick up our stuff. In fact, we're thinking about picking up one of those vacuum seal things to pack our stuff in our bags and bring it with us so we'll have tons of space in our luggage to bring home souvenirs.

I haven't done it yet during our trip. Is there any problem happen or not, like lost of thing or something? If it doesn't, I will try this someday.

Very interesting idea. I have been stressing because I fly out of SLC on Compass Air (some how a part of Northwest Airlines), then transfer to a Northwest Airline plane and on the way back have to transfer planes again, with Delta. I am terrified that in all of that our luggage will get lost. To top it off we are using ME and they say it can take hours to get your luggage to your room. What if our luggage is lost and we don't realize it until 8-10 hours later?! Using UPS could take out a lot of the hassle and with tracking numbers....

I worry about my luggage getting lost, too, when we don't have a direct flight. Since there are laundry facilities right on site where we're staying, (All Star Sports), I think I may not take as much clothes as I have in the past and bring my suitcase as a carry-on instead of checking it under the plane. Of course, I'd have to figure out what I can carry on inside my bag, including any lotions, creams, contact lens solution, etc. But I definitely don't want the worry about my baggage getting lost or delayed.
