My friend recently moved into her newly constructed home in FL, and I'd like to send her a small gift. I think flowers would be expensive, so I'm leaning towards sending something from Yankee Candle. I was going to have a candle holder engraved for her (saw it in their catalog), and send it with a candle that fits. Then, I saw that they have a housewarmer that is called Home Sweet Home. It will cost me about 20. to send the housewarmer (if I buy enough to use coupons). If I do the engraving idea, I'm sure it would be more. Which would be a better idea, or is there something else that I'm not thinking of?

I think either is nice. I would chose the engraved holder it a little more personal. Chose what your comfortable spending.

I think sending a gift is a wonderful idea. It sends several messages to your friends.

1. That you are happy for them.
2. You care for them.
3. You will still think of them fondly, especially since they have moved further away.

Remember, I'm the anti gift person but....

How well do you know her taste? An engraved candle can't be regifted or returned. She's stuck with it, even if she doesn't like it. I'm not a candle person myself, so if you gave me a candle at all, it would sit in a box and be given to the next person who showed an interest walking in the door. Yankee Candles in particular have smells that give me migraines and are expensive (when I do by candles, I buy whatever is at clearance at Target or whatever I need from the dollar store). I'm also minimalist in my decorating, I hate having stuff sitting around I need to dust. This hasn't stopped my mother in law from gifting me a ton of junk that sits around my house that I don't like but need to display because it was a gift and it would hurt her feelings if it disappeared.

My idea of a thoughtful housewarming gift is a gift certificate to Home Depot.

I think the engraved holder and Yankee candle is lovely! I know I'd be quite pleased with such a thoughtful gift; but of course do whatever you'd be comfortable doing in your situation. :hippie:
