After alot of thought about next years trip we have made a very difficult decision!! DD just turned 2 and is 32.5" tall. She is WAY more active and unafraid than DS who is almost 4. She is the one who begs to ride every ride we have ever come in contact with. Problem is that we are afraid she might not hit the 40" height mark by next Sept. If that is the case we are willing to **GASP*** Postpone our trip for a couple of months till she will be able to ride what she wants.


DS had a major growth spurt around this time so ...... Please send us Growin' Pixie Dust!!!!

Sometimes those petite ones are the most fearless! My DD is like that.
Many kids generally stay on their same percentile on the growth charts, so you can look at the chart and see where your DD usually has been on height, and then go forward along that percentile and see when kids who are on that percentile usually hit 40". For your daughter (as for mine) I'm afraid it's sometime after age 4! If they hit a growth spurt at the right time though maybe they will be at the magic 40" sooner.
Luckily the great thing about WDW is that little kids can go on almost every single ride. We went to Busch Gardens and were so disappointed that most of the rides were either for older/taller kids or were "baby" rides. It's great that WDW has so many that are fun for everyone.

I agree - I wouldn't count on a spurt! Ds10 is a foot taller than dd8 - he spurted, and she never did.

I wouldn't worry about postponing your trip. Our DD was a fearless two year old as well. She wanted to ride every coaster at every park we went to that year. She is almost five now and is a bit afraid of the dark rides but still loves the thrill of a good coaster
Like a pp said... There are so many family friendly rides that a two year old can go on that she most likely won't even realize she is missing out on anything else! She can enjoy all the fun and not feel like she is just going on the "baby" rides. Disney does the family thing right! Two is a great age to take to Disney. I say go now and when she is a bit older there will be other rides for her to enjoy... Space mountain, splash mountain, everest, dinosaur, etc.

DS was TINY (always under 10%) until around age 3. He is now above the 75% in height but he is still super skinny. People are always commenting on how tiny DD is but they need to see how rough she is. LOL Last week she fell climbing up something she wasn't suppose to. Busted her little nose and lip and cried for 30 seconds and was fighting to get away and play more. LOL

We're hoping for a little growth spurt as well. Our youngest is 38.75" so it doesn't need to be much. It would just be nice to cut down on the number of baby swaps we need to do and to ride a few more rides with the whole family. Last year our youngest didn't really mind waiting and didn't really know what he was missing, but I think he'll feel pretty left out this time.

Yeah, my 4 yr old is the daredevil and may not hit the 40 before our trip in Sept/Oct. =( But we are going any way.

Your child may actually need to be a little taller than 40 inches. We were at WDW in January 2009. DS was 40.5 inches in his shoes and he did not make any of the 40 inch measuring sticks.

I think it's really 40 inches in bare feet and Disney adds a bit to their measuring sticks for shoes.

That is so true! On one trip our DD was 40.5 in bare feet at the doctor's office and at home. At WDW she was too small according to their measuring stick. I was so annoyed because I know she was the correct height. I didn't argue though because that is their rules but it still burned my butt. She also got measured by a CM at the beginning of the test track line. She waited in line with my dh and when she got to the actual ride they remeasured her and wouldn't let her on. That really pissed me off. It is one thing to measure for safety because I agree with that. It is completely another to measure in one spot and then make the kid wait on line and then right before the ride they say too bad so sad even though we said it was fine. They need a better system.

DS2 (turns 3 on Monday ) and is *still* under 40". Which wouldn't be weird except my other 3 kiddos were 40"+ at 2 so we fully expected him to be able to ride the last time we went, and then crossing everything that he'd make it this time but I think the little guy is doomed to wait until next winter.

Disney measures twice for safety - people try to sneak their kids into attractions all the time. Measuring outside keeps most people from wasting time in line. Measuring inside keeps everyone safe, as that is the last contact with a CM before the ride loads. I don't know of any other way to do it that would be better. Measurement bracelets and hand stamps don't work as people can manipulate those quite easily.

September 2010? OK, I'll send pixie dust. I was thinking you meant THIS Septmber, and I was trying to imagine 7.5" in that short amount of time!

I wouldn't count on a growth spurt for your trip. Honestly I don't think she will grow that much in a year. I say just plan your trip and enjoy it!

I get the safety thing but when you (a CM) measures a child to go on a ride and gives the all clear and the child waits an hour to go on and then right as they are stepping onto the ride another CM says "sorry" that is wrong. Have someone measure at the start of the line. Then that should be it.

But that's the problem - measuring at the beginning doesn't catch those that have either somehow snuck past the CM or have had a little 'help' at the first measuring stick.

How can they not be caught. You have to pass the CM at the beginning of the ride. If their job is to great the guests and check for small riders then there is no problem. I also don't know what kind of "help" the kid could have gotten at one stick that they couldn't get at another.
