Selling Your Photos?

This is probably not the right place for this, but I was just wondering if any of you sell your photographs? If so, how do you do it? Do you just get them printed out like regular pictures (although a different size like an 8 x 10 or something) and then sign it with a permanent marker? Do you buy frames and sell it with the frame or let the buyer frame it themselves? :confused3 I just don't know where to begin! I don't want to make a fool of myself by just jumping in to this and not knowing what I'm doing!

The reason I'm asking is because I was on ebay yesterday and I noticed a lot of personal artwork (paintings and drawings, as well as photographs) and I wanted to try and sell some of mine but I'm just not sure how it's supposed to be done.

TIA!!

Thanks! That was actually very helpful! Do you just print them out like a regular picture though? Like go to Walgreens or something and just print the picture? I assume you sign it in some way, no? Or attach some little ticket to the back with some identifying information?

watermarking is easier than signing.

and make sure any photos you intend to sell, can be sold legally..

such as no identifiable people, which would require a model release for sale...

private property..etc..

Thanks! Good advice...I never actually thought of that but I wasn't planning to sell pics of those things anyway! :goodvibes Didn't think of the watermark either...awesome! thanks again!

I just finished my new website at www.rwcphotography.zenfolio.com along with my new logo as a watermark. Many sites allow you to set your own prices and even select exactly what size picture to sell. A few disboard members use zenfolio as well.

Look for sites that automatically put the watermark on all the pictures you upload. Usually these are pay sites, so that's one thing to consider. The popular ones are smugmug and zenfolio. Otherwise, you'll have to put a watermark yourself using photoshop, or one of the many watermarking programs out there.

I order the photos through either mpix (Zenfolio's vendor) or adoramapix. A few of my bigger pieces from Adoramapix has come out great when printed on metallic paper. Adoramapix doesen't cost anything and you can set-up an account to upload all your photos too. Then have your friends order from there. A large majority of my pictures are stored on www.fotki.com However, I've found some of their picture prints to be substandard.

Good luck with your search

I use Smugmug and let people order shots from my site. I control the prices and get to keep most of the money.

I have looked at Mpix but did my first order with Winkflash you can get a 4x6 for about .6 cents and a 8x10 for $1 and change printed on Fuji paper.

As far as identifing prints so keep people from making copies I have been looking at a small self inking stamp and plan on putting a couple of them on the back of the print.

The stamp would be maybe like this

It has a place to sign the work and the bottom I left blank on this one but on mine it has my email address and website.
