Selling unused ticket?? Where?

Long story short, my Dsis broke up with her Dboyfriend who was supposed to go with us in December and now she's stuck with his ticket (she paid for it).

She got it from UT in August before prices went up, but since it's been more than 14 days, she can't return it. Are you allowed to sell tickets on Ebay or Craigslist? I've never been in this situation and I don't know what to tell her. She's got an AP, so she doesn't need the ticket and with her luck, she'd lose it before she ever even used it.

What's the best way for her to unload the ticket? Ebay? Craigslist?

Mods- I'm not trying to sell on here, I just don't know if the ticket can even be sold or if she's stuck with it.

Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

I bought a ticket in June, and just returned it in September to UT. There is a 5% restocking fee, but it was worth it for us. Just call UT. Hope that helps!

She can hang onto it and upgrade it when it is time to renew her AP, assuming she is planning to renew it. The ticket won't expire until it is used. If she is worried about losing it, she can make a copy of the back of it (so the serial numbers are legible) and Disney can replace it if she loses it (if she doesn't lose the photocopy as well. She will at least get the price she paid for the ticket if she applies it to an AP, as long as the ticket value is not greater than the value of an AP renewal.

It is permissible to sell unused tickets - you just can't sell tickets that have been partially used. She probably wouldn't get face value back if she sold it on ebay - people would have to be willing to accept her word that it was unused, and they could buy a new ticket from Undercover Tourist for not much more and not have any of the hassles of buying from someone on ebay. After she pays the seller's fees, she would be better off paying the 5% return if UCT will take it back or applying it to an AP renewal.

I would also suggest holding it until she renews her AP (or buys a new one). Even if she bought it before a (mor more than one) price increase, as long as she uses it brefore upgrading she will lock in the current gate value.

I already told her to just sit on it and use it later on down the road, but she just wants her money back (it was a lot for her to part with) since she bought her AP and his 6 day ticket at the same time.

She doesn't want to hold onto it and I don't want to list it on ebay since she won't do it (I've never sold anything on ebay and haven't bought anything in years). I mentioned donating it, but she said no. I just love how I'm in charge of her ticket. Guess that's what big sisters are for. I'll call UT on Monday and see what they say.

Eh, technically only by an authorized ticket reseller A careful consumer would be wary about buying a theme park ticket from any individual, since there's no way to tell whether the ticket's been used some, all, or never - and no recourse if it's actually no good. NOT saying the ticket in this thread would be one of these, but just in general.

I sold tickets (not Disney) online in August. You also have to have signature confirmation to protect you as the seller. You pay extra, but at least someone can't say they didn't get them. The fees are also pretty high. I think by the time I was done, I paid about $45 dollars in ebay and paypal fees on around $375.00. Keep that in mind also.

It's not illegal to sell tickets that haven't been used. If they say not for resale, that is another story. You technically can't sell them for more than face value though. (which you wouldn't be)

I'll call UT tomorrow and see what they say. I've read so many horror stories on here and other boards about people saying they never got the ticket or whatnot and then getting paypal to refund their money.

I don't want to see her lose out on the money from the ticket and she'd rather pay the 5% fee UT charges.

I agree. While I've also sold tickets on ebay and never had a problem, she'll come out better financially with the 5% than she would going through ebay by the time she paid all the fees.

Becuase the ticket is already worth more than she paid for it as an upgrade, the best financial deal is to hold on to it and use it in the future. Every other option has her losing money now. Maybe she wants to re-think the value of holding it for future use. -- Suzanne
