I bought 120 points at BLT yesterday. I was planning on selling SSR and buying a bigger contract at BLT. However the new SSR TREEHOUSES look amazing and decided I would love to stay there as well.

Do you think Disney suspected people would want to sell SSR in order to buy BLT and thats why they came out with both at the same time?

Well if they did they sure got me :rolleyes1

First of all I think you will have a hard time selling SSR right now. There are tons on the resale market.

I would've considered this if it weren't for the low resale value right now of SSR and also the THV played a huge role in discouraging me from getting rid of any SSR points. Finally as an SSR owner we have something special, an advantage if you will. I'm not a huge fan of SSR, but I don't dislike it either. However, the addition of THV finally gives an advantage to having the 11 month window @ SSR. I for one will be holding onto my 200 points @ SSR and just adding as many BLT points as possible on top of that.

Well anything is possible. Call me crazy, but I wouldn't part with my 400 SSR points for BLT under any circumstances. Other than the views some of the units will have of the MK, there is nothing about that resort that appeals to me over SSR. Guess its good I bought where I wanted to stay! I am happy that some people who own at SSR but weren't in love with the place will now maybe have more reason to be since its a big investment and the points for resale aren't that great. Maybe this will help in that respect as well.

question about the treehouses...do they only sleep 9 or are there smaller villas, like studios? I'm confused why people are so excited about them, they don't appeal to me at all, but to each his own?

No studios or 1 bedrooms...........just the 3 bedroom, individual treehouses. I, personally, am excited about them because if of the uniqueness, seclusion (huge Ft Wilderness cabin fan here), and layout. Of course once the points come out for these THVs i could love them even more (come on low point usage!!) or stay at them sparingly!! ;)

I'm considering it for two reasons:
1. we are a family of five and could stay in a one bedroom at BLT instead of the two bedroom we use now at SSR. We'd need fewer points overall.
2. I love the restaurants available on the monorail route. We usually rent a car at SSR so we can easily visit restaurants at other resorts. We would probably skip the car at BLT and use the monorail to get to our favorite non-park dinner restaurants.

I'm totally on board for the Treehouse Villas too! It's like staying in a home vs. a condo. Both are fun, but it gives you some variety over the years. Plus having both Treehouse Villas and "regular" SSR rooms available at the 11 month window is great!

I, for one, am VERY happy to see the Treehouse Villas now a part of SSR. I'll definitely be trying them out in a future trip! :thumbsup2

LOL I have no idea if they planned it that way, that's funny though. :)

Congratulations on your BLT add on, and I think you made the right decision to keep SSR too!:thumbsup2 We've got two new, wonderful places to try out now! :)

I doubt DVD cares about who sells as long as someone is paying the dues on the points in question and buying the new points. Their goal is to sell their existing retail points for as high a price as possible. Even ROFR points interferes with this mission to a degree but is a necessary evil from Disney's viewpoint.

We sold a huge chunk of our SSR to purchase BLT.

We learned the hard way with the Beach Club. We had the oppertunity to buy Beach Club when SSR was just going on sale and we chose SSR. Now, we can never seem to make a ressie in Oct at 7 months out at BCV.

We ended up buying BCV resale and sold SSR last week.

I am not having the same problem with BLT. I want my Dec trip practically guaranteed. I want no regrets.

Besides, we have no use for three bedrooms so the TreeHouse Villas, while pretty cool, are just too big for us.

There are a lot, but I'm not seeing any "bargains". We own at SSR and love it, I'd like to pick up some cheap points.

Taking a look at the Timeshare Store, everything I see in the low 70s (I consider that a bargain) is either stripped or big 200+ point contracts.

Once you add in closing costs the current resales aren't the "fire sale" prices I was expecting to see.

It will be interesting to see if the announcements will bring the prices up, or the effects of the economy will continue to dump these points on the market. I'm just not seeing the great deals on SSR that I keep reading about. There are a lot of resales, but I'm not sure I'd call anything a bargain compare to the mid-80s price we paid from Disney.
