Selling on Ebay with local pickup

Has anyone ever sold anything on Ebay with local pickup only???

Because there are no listing fees right now, I listed a small TV, and to my surprise, it already has a bid.

How do you work the payment? Do they still pay you with paypal, and then pick it up? I looked at a few other auctions, and they did say paypal, but not sure how it works.

You can choose how you want the payment. Even with regular auctions you can accept checks and money orders in the mail, if that's the way they wish to do it.

If it's a payment with paypal, I'd wait for payment first prior to giving the TV over. Even with regular ebay, a payment has to be made prior to the shipping of your item.

That's actually not true for eBay anymore - checks & money orders are only acceptable for certain categories. See this page for their accepted payments rules: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/accepted-payments-policy.html

We've bought things pick up only and we always take cash to the person. It's of course a bigger item, so we make the arrangements before bidding that we can check it out at pick up and not take it if we are not pleased with it. Plus the seller is happier not paying the paypal fees!

This is a double edged sword:

First, you can receive cash on delivery (even though it violates eBay's rules, except in certain categories) and run the risk of the buyer claiming item not received or not as described - then leaving you negative feedback. - BUT at least you would still have you money.

Second, you can follow eBay's rules and receive funds via PayPal and then have buyer pick up. Then you run the risk of the buyer claiming item not received or not as described - they open a PayPal dispute and even if you wrote a carbon receipt, you will still lose, because PayPal will automatically side on the buyer's side because lack of tracking or deliver confirmation. You will loose all your money.

In your case - the auction is already running, option one - take cash on delivery and hope the buyer is a nice person.

If it is local pickup then accept CASH ONLY on pickup and meet in a shopping center or crowded area. DO NOT take paypal for this since you have no proof of delivery and the buyer could get home and file a claim and get their money back and keep the item.

We do local pickup on things all the time and always insist on cash. We will arrange to meet at a Target or a Walmart parking lot during business hours and make the exchange.

I sold a huge lot of RC cars and parts for local pickup only. My only payment option was paypal.

ETA I drew up a bill of sale that I had the buyer sign when he picked up and had him sign the paypal page I printed out to help cover myself then I made copies for him on our printer.
