...selling my dream...due to breast cancer

Never give up Wendy do not let it beat you!
If you have too just rent out your points heck I 'm sure anyone of us would take them if we can so don't worry bout that! You asked if it was right to post this on here....well from what I've seen I would have to say YES:thumbsup2
Draw from it know that at anytime there are DOZENS and DOZENS of ppl thinkin bout ya. Take care and sending hugs and Prayers to you and your family from your DVC Family.:)

Wendy, glad to hear you had some good news,:thumbsup2 although the radiation treatments will still take a lot out of you so continue to fight.

Sending prayers and  that you will stay strong and the treatments will be completely successful! Hopefully you will be able to take some of the good advice you have been given in this thread and work things out financially so you can use your DVC to help you recover and continue to be strong. We're all pulling for you!:cheer2:

Hang in there! I was diagnosed last July and had a double mastectomy because my mom is also fighting breast cancer. I went through 6 rounds of chemo (still teaching full time) that ended 3 days before Christmas. I'm feeling great and just booked our March '09 trip...it's exciting to have something to look forward to!

Stay positive and keep your sense of humor! It's one of the "speed bumps" in life, but you'll make it through!

Best wishes, my sister is a survivor as well.

Her out of pocket expenses were $18k, plus cut hours at work.

While there will be life after cancer, if you need to sell, then you need to sell. Its important that you don't add to the stress you are under with financial stress you don't need.

My prayers go out to you and your family. When better times come again, there will still be many resales/resorts options for you to consider when the time is right.

I posted earlier, but thought I would update everyone...
I am now home from a few days spent at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. I will not have to have a mascetomy, but will have to take radiation treatments. I will meet with the radiation oncologist next week to discuss my treatment plan. We live about 2-3 hours away from Houston, so I have been researching "housing" options while I undergo treatments. And, I always thought Disney was expensive :surfweb: ... Again, thanks for all my DVC support:grouphug: .
wishing all the best for you:wizard:

Living in Pittsburgh our major decision is picking which hospital group we want specifical treatment in, never thought about the hassle for people who don't live near major medical facilities, shame.

I do know that my mother had unexpected catastrophic medical bills that she just couldn't pay. I helped out for months, then contacted the facility as to programs she might be eligible. Luckily, i found one she quailfied for:thumbsup2 . I'd def contact the different organizations to see what help (financial, housing, moral) there is out there.

I haven't read the whole thread but maybe someone has already suggested to check your insurance policy to find the maximum out of pocket you need to pay in a calendar year. I had one year where I hit the maximum after having 3 surgeries. My medical bills were $100k plus and whole year cost $2,000 (I think) for me as I hit my maximum very early.

Wendy,

I became a DVC member 11 years ago - like you, doing it when I could pay CASH for it. I couldn't see going into debt for something so frivolous, even though I loved it and wanted it before then! I was diagnosed with breast cancer 6 years ago, and the thought of selling my dvc never entered my mind. Why would it - I paid cash! The medical bills were high, and frankly ridiculous! However, my insurance covered most - I was responsible for the deductible, then 10% up to the max per year (I think $3k), although some things were exempt from that. If I'd been unable to pay the bills, then maybe I would have considered renting some points - but never selling! At that time my dvc was good through 2042 and I planned on being around to use every last year of the membership (now I have AKV too, so I need to stick around til 2057...but I'll only be 98 then <g>).

During my radiation treatments, they agreed to interrupt it for a week or so since I had a cruise to Alaska planned before I was diagnosed. As the radiation oncologist said - I have a LIFE to live, and need to keep on living it despite the cancer. In your case I'd say your dvc is a big part of your life - don't give that up until your last breath (which is hopefully after dvc expires)!

Thanks so much! I am hoping we don't have to sell. I am having a tough afternoon today, and coming here talking about DVC (and breast cancer) kind makes things a little easier. It helps knowing that I have people that understand where I am coming from...

THANKS!!:flower3:

You'll be in our prayers. I'm a cancer survivor also. A breast cancer support group can be a big help. Hold on. I have a friend who is the father of 4 under 5 years old and he is going thru chemo. I am always amazed at how well we humans can survive. There is life after radiation.

God bless you.

Dear Wendy
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family
I've been a nurse for 30 years and I can tell you for a fact
that having Hope and focusing on the things that give you the most Joy in life
is the best medicine. Hang on to your Dream
Blessings

What wonderful responses on this thread! Disney lovers and DVC owners are the best!!

Thanks to whoever it was here that directed Wendy over to the Survivor thread on the CB. She posted there as well.
