Selling DVC

:sad1:

This is the exact concern of mine when I think of buying into BLT as a new member. I've held off buying in for several years now, waiting for BLT and it's finally here. I LOVE the MK resort area and it's the only place I want to stay onsite. Have heard great things about the Epcot area also. But in a nutshell, it may be near impossible making reservations at your own resort once the 7 month mark rolls around. So having to book right at 11 to 8 months out everytime may make this product a bit inflexible. Sometimes planning so far ahead is not always doable. In this case, I'm wondering if I'm just better off booking rooms through CRO as needed. After waiting all these years for a DVC on the monorail, maybe it's not such a good fit for me afterall. :sad1:

As an SSR owner I can definitely see this happening as SSR built out. You have a ton more owners (at a not so premium location IMO) who are competing for more limited inventory at more in demand resorts such as BCV during food and wine, Wilderness Lodge pretty much all the time etc. SSR really does not have that kind of location draw. I am pleased to see that the new prop is the contemporary as there are now more premium locations to choose from. If they did another SSR type on site/non premium location that would stink.

We sold in order to do two things: Consolidate our points and also to decrease our points. We went from 575 points in 9 contracts to 175 points in 3 contracts. Additionally, we went from 4 home resorts to 2. I am finding that each year it is harder and harder to get a reservation where I want to stay so the home resort is a huge advantage. I own at the two resorts where I want to stay - BCV and AKV.

...I don't like the "everyone is equal once you are in the parks" mentality. I am paying more and I expect more, bottom line...

Interstingly, that mentality that "everyone is treated the same" was a guiding principle of Walt Disney when he created Disneyland. Not that everyone needs to buy into it.

...We are branching out--because WE are changing. Our kids are getting older (13 & 11) and we CAN do Europe, or Boston, or New York...without them complaining.
We are, also, looking at buying another timeshare in addition to DVC. We still do love WDW, though. We have two trips planned.

I suspect that this is a common reason -- changing family circumstances. We bought MVCI (Marriott) for non-Disney vacations as we enjoy the timeshare villas over the standard resort room.
