I belong to a few FB yard sale groups and have been considering selling some high value coupons I have here that I won't use. I know that I have seen coupons offered for sale before and I even bought a few (two "free haircut" from Supercuts for $5 each). But I was wondering if there is anything illegal about this. No sense in getting in trouble for a few dollars.

Anyone have any experience selling coupons???..................P

I thought it was illegal and people get away with it by saying it is a fee for finding and clipping the coupons, ie. the labor.

Selling coupons is illegal, but charging people for your time in collecting the coupons is not. You are giving them the coupons for free, the amount charged is for your labor.

Selling coupons is not illegal. It is against the policies of some major auction sites, but there's no law against selling coupons.

Some coupons do contain language that they are non-transferable. If you obtained a coupon under false pretenses with the intent to sell it for a profit, that could be considered a civil fraud case. But that would be a company suing you, not "the law" coming after you.

I just so happen to have a pack of coupons sitting here and some say, "may not be reproduced or sold"

But you can buy them on ebay. So it is all about how you word it.

Well, I re-read the "rules" on the sites where I wanted to post the coupons and there was nothing specific that said no coupons. So I posted a free coupon available for a "finders fee". I'm not trying to skirt the law (although I did google it and it really doesn't seem cut and dry). But if I were needing to make a big purchase and found a $10 off coupon for $2 plus a stamp, I'd think it were my lucky day! These are coupons I got for one reason or another (donating blood, frequent buyer programs) and I just won't be using them before they expire. If I knew of someone that could use them I would just give them.... but I've got bills just like the next guy and would love to get just a few dollars for them if I could. Thanks for the info and advise............P

Please don't play the "finders fee" or "charge is for my time" game. It just makes you look dishonest; trying to skirt some unseen "law." It doesn't offer you any additional protection. substance matters more than form. Intent is what matters when it comes to the law. But you're not up against any law here.
