Placed an offer last Thursday and was accepted within 30 minutes, we sent signed contract back on Monday and we are just waiting for seller to sign. Has anyone had sellers that waited until the last minute to send back initial contract? Tomorrow is the deadline and each hour closer, I'm getting more nervous that we are going to lose out.

No we didn't have that problem, but don't be nervous. If it doesn't work out, another opportunity will always come around.

It's much better for you if the seller flakes now then 2 months from now.

Our seller took a long time too but finally returned the documents with some help from our broker.

Tough time for some people being near end of month and a holiday. Sometime work or life gets in the way and slows things down. I'd ask your broker to kindly poke them one more time and hope for the best!

I feel that is extremely rude! I'd be worried they were holding out for a better offer. That might make me upset enough to rescind my offer (if that's possible). Hopefully they just got busy. Crossing fingers for you!

I would stay in touch with your broker. If there is a good reason, I would stick it out.

Life can get in the way. We were selling one of our contracts 1 1/2 years ago. Our son in law died suddenly and we had to fly across the country to be with our daughter. DVC was the last thing on our mind. We did contact our agent as we were leaving and said we would be out of contact for a few days. Do you think that was rude??

I had one seller wait until the last day to return their paperwork. I think the broker had to call and remind them that there was a deadline.

A seller lists a contract and has no idea when it might sell. It might be listed a few hours and they expected days or a couple weeks or it might be listed for weeks when they thought days. In the meantime life is happening and they may be on vacation, have graduation, have deaths in the family or who knows what. A buyer knows they are making an offer, knows the timetable they want and has it is a priority for the time.

In the end the majority happens quickly and timely but there are the outliers that don't. You might even end up being asked to extend the deadline and of course it's possible they won't sign but I think that's a rarity.

My broker has kept me updated and the seller is out of town, will return early next week and wants to continue with the sale. I guess I read too many posts about offers being accepted and going to ROFR the very next day so I thought that was the norm. This is my 3rd attempt at an offer and first one that was accepted so I'm a little excited! Everyone's scenarios suggestions have crossed my mind and I appreciate all the responses.
