Sell me on the PhotoPass CD

Sorry, no can do! You can ask the photopass photographers to take pics of you with your own camera and they gladly do it! They always take a photopass pic, too. The truth: the pics on my camera come out better!

Here's why...when I went to look at the ones from last summer, all the effects they did didn't work. They did the Soarin' pic...and Mickey was on the opposite side of the photo from where we were pointing!

If you really want the effects you can upload your own photos, add them, and purchase them individually.

I guess if money is no issue, try it and see if you like it. For my family it just doesn't make good sense financially!

So you always ask the Photopass guy to take pics with your cam then and there is never any problem? I am seriously considering doing just that.

You know, reading this thread has made me think back to our last trip. It was me, my sister, and mom. And over 2 years later, I only now just realized there are NO PICTURES AT ALL OF THE 3 OF US ALL TOGETHER. NOT A SINGLE ONE.

I know how that is! We took our daughters 8 years ago and there are not pictures of all 4 of us together! :guilty: How sad!

Where are you finding the photopass for $79? I can only find it for $99. I'd rather pay $79.

I know that the private photo sessions at the resorts are 99, and include the CD with all your pictures. Is this a separate fee from the 99 that is costs to get the Photopass CD? Confused...

is it true that if you pre-purchase it and don't like ANY of the pictures that you can get a full refund after doing your trip ... i'm debating as i'm going for the first time with a friend ... want pics of us together ... i have a better camera than what they use and am used to good quality pictures ... not sure if i'm willing to hand over my camera for someone else to use ... any opinions or experiences from people with cameras that cost as much as the trip itself

One more benefit of Photopass...

Here is a very specific example but it is another benefit...

Our AK day started out with a before the park opened ADR at the Donald breakfast. After the park opened, we were headed over to the EE line. The trail from the restaurant to EE is absolutely LOADED with characters. One of the first ones was King Louie and Baloo. Amazingly enough, my DH was the one that was so enthused to see the characters, especially since the lines were non-existent this early in the morning.

When we walked up to King Louie and Baloo, King Louie IMMEDIATELY started playing a game with DS. They were doing a kind of follow the leader kind of mirror dance thing. There would have been no chance at all for me to catch the moment on film. As the keeper of the camera, I would have had to be the one to catch it too. I was so happy that the Photopass photographer was on the ball and caught it.

He took an amazing series of pictures, at least half a dozen, of the interaction between DS and King Louie. SO. MUCH. FUN. And yet, the pictures themselves aren't anything that you would really want a big 5x7 of, if you KWIM? They are the kind that you would want to have smaller, in a series, in a scrapbook, to recapture that moment. Thus the beauty of the Photopass CD, where I can easily print out the whole series.

There were other times where I was actually the one having more interaction with the characters. It was also caught by the Photopass photographer.

Another thing that is so very fun about getting the CD is the ability to mess with the photos. To add borders. To change them to black and white. Some of the pictures really look so much better in black and white, and you still capture the moment.

With so many people in your family, it would just be one more chance, one more eye, one more camera, to try to get that great photo of your group. Given the price to purchase individual photos, the pay off for the CD isn't high at all. The cheapest print is $14.95, so at $80, your pay off is 6 photos. If pictures are something that you value, then the CD is well worth the cost.

That's my two cents.

I agree. Photo pass lets you enjoy the process of events and the look on your kids face. Although we do our own pics as well (DH) you get to watch the Bibbidi Boutique Process and When we were family of the Day at Chef Mickey's they captured everything.

Another benefit is that my husband who holds the camera was in the bathroom several times when characters passed me and my daughters by. That moment would have been lost but we just got a card and he snapped away.

I am not big on souvenirs but this is a must for my trip. We took our own pictures (about 1000) our last trip and about 500 photo pass and the majority we used in our scrap book was the photopass.

One of the best tips I got from the DIS:thumbsup2 my pics this last May were AWSOME it was our first trip as a family of four and I was in all the pics after adding borders and editing etc we had 200 pics and they are beautiful!

It is a separate fee from the resort one. Although when I did it last year, you got a small discount on the resort CD if you had purchased the parks CD.

I got the Parks photopass CD because I am never in any pictures. On some vacations you might not even realize I was there! Last year with the photopass, I was in many of the pictures!

Is this deal still available??
Thanks

It's $99 when you pre-purchase. A few people, at one time, had some discount codes that worked in conjunction with the pre-purchase discount, but I do not think that is the case any longer.

And to the PP above - yes, you can get a refund after your trip if you decide you don't like the photos or it's not worth it to you. There is a time limit for that refund though, maybe 30 days, or even 2 weeks after.

Yes, I think that deal is gone. I managed to snag it at the time, but it was really an error on the part of the website and they fixed it pretty quickly, within a day or so. Some people were convinced that when we ordered our CD, we would get charged that extra $20, but I didn't. Worked out fine.

All that being said, now that I have my CD and all my pics, I would pay the $99. I loved it. I just didn't know whether it was worth it before my trip.

By far the biggest selling point for me was our water park pictures. We don't have a waterproof camera, so we weren't taking it to a water park and we would have had NO pictures without photopass (and we went to the waterparks on four days of our trip). They got our family coming down the speed slides, playing in the kids area, in the family raft ride, on the lazy river, with Lilo, getting nailed by the waves at Typhoon Lagoon. All sorts of shots we otherwise would not have had.
I also really liked the magic shots at the other parks. Holding baby Simba at AK, sitting next to Stitch at DHS, Stitch popping out of the ground at AK, holding Tinkerbell at Epcot, holding balloons at MK, Epcot and DHS. All really fun. Well worth it to me.

Oh I am excited to hear about the pictures at the waterparks, we are headed to the waterparks for the first time this October, so I am glad they do the pictures there.

I honestly include the Photopass as a part of our vacation expense. I wouldn't go without it, even for a day. If it wasn't for the Photopass you would never have pictures of our whole family and that stinks.

But how do they get you at the waterpark and know its you? I know they scan your card in the character line, but how does it work elsewhere?

They give out little photopass cards on a wrist strap that you wear, at the water parks (you can also get them at the Fairies Meet & Greet, but nowhere else).

I totally agree about the waterpark photos. I had read a rumor that they weren't taking them any more so I'm glad they still are! Some of our favorite PP are from BB and TL. Especially love the ones where we are getting nailed by the waves!

Last year!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but was wondering if someone could help me out on a related topic. I'm back from a wonderful week in Disney with my girlfriend, and we used Photopass for the first time. I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a CD, but was hoping to get a better understanding of what exactly is provided on the CD : are they all the original JPEG files? If so, are there any data restrictions? Would I then be able to copy the JPEGs to my personal computer or my girlfriends, or are they coded in a way where that is not possible? :confused3

(E.g. Could I add them to my picture galleries on facebook?)

Wasn't sure what restrictions applied.

You get a limited release from Disney. You don't own the photos, but you are free to use them, post them, print them for any non-commercial purposes. And yes, you get the .jpegs.

There are also photopass shares on FB. They used to be on the Dis, but got banned because it was like scamming Disney. The idea is you share the costs with other families, then all upload your pics to the same photopass acct. Then you get a certain time to edit your pics. After said time, leader orders cd and uploads to walmart.com or another site or sends you a cd of your images.

I got my travel documents today for our upcoming trip. Included was a card that said I had to pre register it for photopass and when i got home I'd be emailed "special offers" to save on the CD. I am assuming this means the 99 dollar deal?:confused3

I got the CD last time, the quality of the photos was very very nice, and I loved not having to take all of our own pictures.
This is more of a budget trip this time, and we'll be doing our own photos. Photopass was great, but not getting it saves 100 for other things and that is the priority this time.:)

I believe the Photopass Shares were banned because of the "no exchanging money" rule. No share that required payment was able to continue after that policy went into effect. That policy got rid of all Photopass Shares and greatly reduced the availabililty of fridge swaps and stroller swaps.
