Smack dab in the middle of our week, I got dinner ressies at Mama Melrose for 3:40 pm. Those are connected to the Fantasmic! Show and were the only ones available. Should I keep trying to get later ressies and keep it? or cancel and make ressies at WCC and leave the night open?

We will have an 11 month old and a 4 year old who probably won't appreciate MGM like our 11 yo and my DH will. Aside from the characters and a few shows maybe.

We will have a morning at MGM a few days later, but I'm just torn. I haven't seen Fantasmic, so I don't know what I'm missing. If we do keep it, it will only be if I get some later ressies! No way am I heading into the parks at 3 pm!!

I love Fantasmic! May be scary for the smaller children though. I am doing the dinner package this year but my ADR is for 5:20. Maybe your DH could take your 11 yo?

Our family always does the FDP. We also eat at MM. You have to ask for the dinner package when you make the reservations. Your credit card info is taken to hold the ADR. You are only charged if you don't show up. You have 48 hours proir to cancel.

We have two DDs 5 and 8 and the package is good for us. We can just walk into the Fantasmic theatre and sit down. I think if there was a wait involved, our kids would not like it as much.

I never do the FDP. I never have to wait to get in to the theater, I just walk in and sit down, usually 30-60 minutes before the show starts. I don't do the package for a couple of reasons: My two favorite restaurants at MGM are not part of the package (Sci Fi and Prime Time) and it bugs me that the FDP seats are not the best seats inside the Amphitheater. If they were, that would definitely change my mind a bit. They are not bad seats just not the best which seems odd to me. We always do Fantasmic at least twice each trip and have been throughout the year, even Christmas week and never one time have not found a good seat, often the best seats (right in the middle, about a fourth of the way up).

It never hurts to have a pkg., but to me its not necessary. And if the show is cancelled for any reason, you cannot get any of your money back. You are really paying for the meal and a reserved section of a very large theater.

I agree with you totally about not needing the fdp and having better seats without the reserved seating.

Your 4 year old might actually like the show. We took DS2.5(at the time) to see it last year, and he loved it. He sat quitely, and was very entertained by it. We did the fantasmic package so he wouldn`t have to wait so long for the show to start, which worked out great for us. We had the package at Hollywood and vine, I figured that the buffet would be better for him ,quicker and more choice. This year we`ll be doing Mama Melrose for the package. Fantasmic was not to be missed, even for my 2 year old!

Our first trip we did it with no package, just showed up and lucked out I guess, although we were a bit close to the heat.

We have done the package and ate at the Brown Derby, which I probably never would have experienced otherwise and we loved it and it was nice to walk in an sit down just short of the show starting. Seats were fine as far as I was concerned.

Fantasmic! was "sold" to us by a Magic Kingdom Cast Member working at a little gift shop with golf clothing (forget the name) she said we just HAD to see it. I had to say it was fabulous.

Heres what I'm considering doing since we have my Mother 63 and DD 17 mos with us on our trip. I may have dinner with the package for all 4 of us and my Mom and baby can head back to the resort on their own and DH and I can continue on to the show..but I have read that heat and the dragon can be quite intense for little ones. It's also pretty late for her, 8pm I think.

Mama Melrose just changed their FDP to include ordering off the whole menu. We did the FDP last year with DS3 and DS7 and Fantasmic ended up being our favorite fireworks show.
