My vacation planner just posted that selfie sticks will be banned from parks (not just rides) as of June 26th. I guess too many people were not following the no rides rule. I haven't seen anything official from Disney yet, but this is what I'm hearing.

The CM at the Mad Tea Party gave a great explanation to guests who wanted to use a selfie stick last week, telling them they can just reach up high with their hands instead:

"If you drop your arm, it won't fall out of the ride."

I know this may start a debate, but just wanted to put the info out there for those who may be planning on taking one or purchasing one for an upcoming trip!!

I've heard this is what they will be doing but it will be incredibly hard to inforce. It is easier the enforce on rides but now you have entire parks that they are going to try and keep them out of.

I wonder if Security will be turning away people if they find them? I hope that they put up huge signs because a lot of people won't know about this. It's a shame that they don't have outside lockers like Universal does.

I'm sure they'll say something but security doesn't catch everything in bags that people bring in at least if it isn't something illegal. They'll still likely get into the parks. They have already started putting up signs outside of rides.

Some selfie sticks are huge so they are bound to find them. I can see that the smaller ones wouldn't be noticeable though.

I know they do at Hollywood Studios but I really think they should have them at all the parks.

The one time we were at MK, a gal in front of us had a small "Mace" can on her key chain and they made her either throw it away or take it back to the car. She was parked at the TTC, so really this was more than a little inconvenient. Lockers outside the Security area might be a good idea. And from a "Profit" stand point probably makes more sense. At HS they were only the coin op ones, but still it would be a good Idea.

I defintely think they should be banned on rides. I heard of an incident not too long ago that someone stopped a ride twice because they got yelled at for having their selfie stick out. The person was happy about that too. While they are annoying people do make some pretty cool vacation videos with them.

I was in Las Vegas last Christmas at the Bellagio. People were so busy using their selfie sticks in front of the Chrstmas displays, that they weren't even turning around to look at the decorations!

I'm glad they'll be banned from the parks. I think there are enough problems with people looking at their phones.

I believe there is a set of lockers next to the bus stops at Epcot as well.

I wasn't aware of the lockers at Epcot and DHS. They are before the security check? I need to look for them.

I think selfie sticks are one of the dumbest inventions in the history of the world.

We were at Crystal Palace last year for breakfast, the lady behind us wanted her picture taken with Pooh, instead of asking her husband to take the picture, the lady took a selfie with Pooh (with an iPad). The husband was not in the picture, he was just standing off to the side watching.

What's the point? I've never understood it.

I think this is a great move, Disney has photographers all over the parks to take your picture, there is no need to have carry a stick around the parks to take a picture of yourself.

When we were there in April, a high school girl was plotting to use a selfie stick on Space Mountain. She was proudly displaying it in line not realizing how absolutely dangerous it was. I had to finally inform the CM because she was going to hurt herself or someone else. I would be a huge supporter of banning selfie sticks. Be social! Ask someone to take a picture for you, or use one of the photographers.

Just to add my thoughts...

i personally don't like selfie sticks and I wouldn't own one, when they 1st arrived on the scene I was dead against them.

However someone made a fair point. For the purpose of taking single photos they are quite useful. Sometimes if you ask someone to take a photo for you they won't frame the photo very well. They'll chop off the top of your head or it won't be laid out very well.

So for single photos I don't mind them.

I don't think they should EVER be used for filming. Taking a photo requires it to be taken out, extended, take picture, put back away. Its just not acceptable to wave that massive stick around while you're filming because you're not paying attention. :duck:

Ban them in the parks, i'm all for it.

I wonder what constitutes a selfie stick? We have a GoPro and have a very small handle that attaches to the bottom of it (it's no longer than the palm of your hand) would that be considered a "selfie stick"? It's just so that you can hold the camera and it has a loop at the bottom to go around your wrist.
