I want to thank Pete for expressing his frustration with selfie sticks on the podcast...my son was hit in the back in the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon with one during the wave segment last week, it knocked the wind out of him, was extremely painful, and left a huge bruise on his back. If it would have hit him on the head, the outcome could have been more serious. The young adult holding the stick didn't even apologize despite knowing it happened. I hope Disney also bans these from the wave pool. I wanted to grab the stupid thing and beat the guy with it as Pete jokingly mentioned in the podcast, but I obviously didn't. The users are not aware of those around them, it's dangerous.

Which podcast was this on?

Edit: I found it...

I wish they'd cover this a little more than just a rapid fire...

If these stupid selfie sticks aren't allowed on attractions, why the heck would they be allowed in the wave pool?! They warn you against having bathing suits with rivets and other metal on them but these are okay?

If a family member or I get hit with one of these, I would be very tempted to stick it where the sun don't shine.

These selfie sticks need to be banned from all the parks.

DisneyDoc, I hope your DS is doing better now.

Wouldn't it be nice if they (disney world, state or federal) will require this things to be registered and insured. Then, the prospective operators will be required to undergo selfie stickers operators education program. After that they should take and pass a test to get a permit / license. And then Disney will have selfie sticks police roaming in the park to make sure that the selfie stickers are adhering to the law of "The Land".

Minnielovesmickey...Thank you for your well wishes....he is fine, bruise fading :-) it was on his right scapula (shoulder blade area) about 5 inches in diameter, it was a go pro camera attached to the stick. That same day he skinned the other side of his back on the bottom of the wave pool, he looked a little rough!!! It made for some painful sunscreen applications the rest of spring break! :-)
