Who here actually self parks their car? We are staying at WL, can you drop off your bags up front first? Is there enough parking?

Thanks

There is plenty of parking. Yes, you pull under the canopy to unload and register. The walk is really not bad to the parking lot.

When we have driven to WDw and stayed at WL and Poly, I pull into unloading zone right at entrance to resort. Bell services asked if checking in and we unload luggage and other junk to cart and wife proceeds to check-in and I take car and find a spot to park, usually find a shady spot by a tree by myself, and I then walk back to join wife at check-in counter. We never use the car once there, we rely on disney transportation, so I have never used valet parking, heck, I can park my own car and retrieve it when I want it, I do it at home and self parking is free. After our stay, I go get car and drive to entrance and take our bags of cart, a repeat of checking in and leave the World. I've also parked in regular parking with wife intack and luggage still in car and we walked to check-in and upon securing our room key and number, walked to bell services and a bellman and golf cart drove us back to our car, got our stuff and took us to our room, unloaded us and went his merry way. They are very accomadating and you can just about have it anyway you want. Hope this was informative!

We do self park and valet, and use our car a lot to drive to DTD or one of the other resorts for meals. We never drive to the parks. The self parking lot at WL isn't too far away, but some of the deluxe resorts are further, so we'd definitely valet if staying or visiting there.

You can drop your bags off by the front door and have bell services handle them. Once you check in, they will be delivered to your room at a later time. DH and I usually just have a bag on wheels and carry on bag, so I handle the luggage myself and check in while he parks. You can also unload the luggage and have someone you're traveling with stay with the luggage until you park the car (moving the luggage out of the way so others aren't inconvenienced). You're not obligated to use bell services.

Hope you love WL as much as we do!

When we stayed at WL, we didn't have a lot of luggage and are cheap so we parked in the canopy area like any other hotel and unloaded our bags to take in ourself. We did leave the car there while we checked in, then one of us took the bags inside while the other parked. Bell Services was there to extend their service but we politely declined.

The walk to selfparking is VERY close and we got close parking each time. No problems at all =0

Well my stepdad is extra cheap. We self parked, and didn't use bell services when we stayed at VWL. We left the car under the canopy to check in (all of us went in), and they were fine with that; they just took the key in case it needed to be moved, but didn't charge us anything. We then unloaded the car, and headed for the villa with the 10000 pounds of luggage (5 of us 8 nights, do the math...). Stepdad went down and parked and then followed to the villa. When my grandparents arrived later in the week they also self parked and didn't use bell services, though they unloaded closer to the bus stop so grammy didn't walk as far. When we drove to the Poly for dinner one night we also self parked. Grammy and mom were unloaded first at the entrance (grammy has walking difficulties but refuses to use wheelchair), then the cars were self parked. When we left, the men got the cars, we loaded up, and left.

Of all the deluxes we have stayed at the only one that makes it almost impossible to self park is the GF. Their self park lot is ACROSS THE STREET! Try that in a torrential downpour. WL self is not bad, neither is the Poly or the YC.

We just returned from GF and that was our only complaint. None of the other deluxes are as bad.

WL, self parking is no problem. Drop your bags and park. At least it is close to the building.

How is the self park at BWI? I know that we won't use valet.I hope it isn't to far away.

Self-parking at WL or AKL is fine if you can park near the resort-end of the lot. If it's a busy time of the year, you may have quite a walk. I would NOT self-park at GF and probably not at BC (We had quite a walk to our rooms here -- but some wouldn't.). Sometimes we valet park, and sometimes we self-park. It basically depends on how lazy we're feeling. No one looks at you funny if you self-park or decline bell service. In fact, when we checked-into AKL in May, we noticed lots of other families also arriving by car. Most chose to bring in their luggage once they found out if their rooms were ready.
