Self Checkout or Cashier?

Do you prefer to use the self checkout in grocery/drug stores if you don't need anything behind the counter or do you usually go to a cashier.

Sometimes I see long lines waiting for the cashiers & no one at the self checkout.

Self Check-out all the way.I love those self check out counters. It makes for a nicer, more relaxed check out time.I don't have to hurry to get the items on the counter or deal with a cashier in a foul mood.
It's just a pleasant experience for me all the way around.
And I always get ALL my bags and not just the ones the cashier see's to give to me.

Cashier.. I can never get those self-checkout things to work right..:headache:

All the stores with self-check that I frequent are hiring. I don't think the "putting people out of a job" rationale is valid.

I used to play cashier/grocery store growing up. this is my opportunity to continue on with it as an adult. I'm definitely a self checker outer.

i dont like self check outs. and they will put people out of work. i would rather go to a cashier. plus i kinda like to chit chat to. i dont mind helping to bag though.

Correct. I work at a store that has self-checkout and there always has to be a cashier there to watch over it. Not just for security purposes but for the fact that there will always be those who don't know how to use them or need assistance with it. For instance, I work at Home Depot and when people buy certain products through SCO like molding, it prompts for a measurement and the cashier has to type in how many feet they have of it. Or for certain items it asks for a quantity which is something the cashier has to enter in as well. Plus all the contractors who come through with their commercial accounts have to be checked by the cashier because it asks for an I.D. check. So believe me, there's always a need for a cashier at SCO and it definitely doesn't put anyone out of work. If anything, it's more work, especially if you have all 4 in use at the same time :)
