Seizures in Dogs

2 years ago today, November 7, 2021, the date of Riders last seizure! 2 years!!!! We still can't believe it. I'm sure it won't last forever, but two years is truly amazing, and we are grateful every day.
Very happy to see this. Sending positive vibes and drinking a toast that your Rider's good health will continue.

Wow, that's great news! So glad your boy is doing well :)

My Airedale will be 12 years old next week! She was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy when she was one year old and has been on potassium bromide ever since. We had some ups and downs in the early years getting her seizures under control. We added CBD oil about 4-5 years ago and that really settled them down. However, she has had a seizure every 3-4 months for the last 10 months or so. I'll run her in to check her bromide levels and see if we need to go up. Have to balance the meds against the hit her liver takes....enzymes are a tad bit high. But...my point is that our epileptic pets can live long and happy lives :). This is her....best dog ever.

We just started our dog on the Purina Neurocare dog food - just like what you did 2 years ago! Praying for the same results. It's expensive but hopefully worth it!! Wish us luck :)

I hope it works for you!!!! It has been worth every penny for us.
Last Tuesday was 2 and 1/2 years, seizure free.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhh - our boy had a seizure after being on the neurocare dog food. I'm so discouraged. In fact, it was a rather bad one for him too. He was having one and my daughter gave him the nose spray (something her vet prescribed when he's having a seizure) and he then went into another one. He never does that. Plus, he had another one about 12 hours later. Ugh. We're keeping him on the neurocare food for now. Just so bummed.......

Oh no, I'm so sorry. I am not sure if that is something that needs time to build up in their sytstem or not, like some of the meds do. I hope you are able to find something that works.

Sending out positive vibes - I know first-hand how stressful this is. DD's cat was having seizures. We took her to the local vet and they prescribed levetrimiacin. It didn't work, and was nearly impossible to keep up with the doses. We were referred to a neurologist who changed her over to phenobarbitol. It took 3-4 weeks but the seizures did subside. By that point she was having skin issues from the scratches she was giving herself during the seizures. We then got referred to a dermatologist who gave her some meds from the scratches and advised we put her on Advantage, and only Advantage, for fleas. We then also moved the cat to Oregon to live with DD at school. Not only did that do the trick, but the dermatologist also suggested that the seizures were being triggered by a flea allergy. She is now weaning off the Phenobarbital and doing great.

LSS - understand if you DR, but have faith and know that it is not your fault. I know I blamed myself for every seizure.

Are any of you giving flea/tick meds? They are not good for dogs prone to seizures. Prayers for all the pups!

We do not. We use topical. Of course we stopped at the end of the summer and he promptly got 3 deer ticks engorged on him. So now we have to worry about that.

It’s always something isn’t it? Hope that goes ok.
