Hello all,

Can anyone give me some information on the Segway tours at California Adventure. I have search Disney's site and I cannot find any information. We are planning a trip to DL in a couple of weeks and my Dad really wants to take the tour.

Thanks so much
Charlene

I called this morning and asked about the Segway tour - they said right now it's being offered every day, but after Labor Day she thought it might go down to weekends only, but she didn't know that for sure. Also, the tour fee is NOT refundable, so if you sign up you need to be sure you're going to be able to do it the day you sign up for.

As far as I know, that is the policy for any of the tours or special events, including Fantasmic dessert seating, and Mickey's Halloween party.

Califgirl...I am excited to read that it's a great tour! They have been talking about this tour for over a year. Some questions! When you finally get to ride the segway in the park, is the tour guide giving information about the park? Can you bring a camera with you? I take it you shouldn't have a fanny pack, or small purse over the shoulder? Did you feel it was easy to learn? I can't wait!

Woo Hoo jacksparrowfan, I think you will love this tour. The Segways are very easy to ride. They are very intuitive. If you lean forward, you go forward, if you turn your shoulders and lean to the side, like you're looking at where you're going, you go to the side. You can make a 360 degree circle with the center wheel staying in place, so it's easy to manuever in 'tight spots' (which they never put you in, but it's fun to do all the same :) ) The Segways are set so they can't go anyfaster than 5 mph, so going out of control is not much of an issue. ;) Once you have learned to ride the Segway (which is fun all by itself) you get a guided tour of the park with the guides telling you tidbits and trivia about the locations and attractions. You also get some freestyle riding time at Paradise Pier (try riding down the Sun Wheel queue - whee!) The park iseems like it is made for Segways, it is smooth and wide open. It was a very enjoyable experience.

You can not have anything around your neck or over your shoulder for the tour. I had a small camera bag that attatched to my belt, so that is how I was able to bring my camera. I think a small fanny pack would be ok, but no one in our group had one, so I am not positive. You don't want anything to get in your way or upset your balance, the Segways are pretty sensitive to balance changes, which makes them very easy to ride. We ended up getting a locker for our stuff, but we were one of the very first tours with paying guests, so I'm not sure what they are doing now. The Segways in Epcot have a little carry bag on them, and they don't at DCA.

This tour had things that the Epcot tour didn't - we got a continental breakfast, a group photo and like Epcot, a special Segway Pin.

*sings to the beach boys tune* "Everybody go Cruzin', Cruzin' DCA"!

thanks for posting this, I had no idea you could do a segway tour, I know my dh would love that and it sounds like fun to me too. Yay, something else to do during our 8 day trip this november.

Some slightly updated info from a friend who went today. :) The Segways now have a carry container on them, so you can put purses and fanny packs in them (woo hoo!!) and you are not allowed to wear fanny packs. That's the latest!
Enjoy the tour!!

Speaking as the "friend who went today" from Califgirls post...LOL
We went on the tour this morning and had a great time. 3 of us had ridden before (me Epcot, my son & girlfriend Coronado) the other 3 caught on quickly. We all had a blast, and my husband has raved about it all day. Of course now he wants to buy his own so he doesn't have to ride in "turtle" mode, which is up to 6mph we were told. There were 6 in our group, and nobody else, so we had our own tour.
A few comments...
The tour states 7am- 10am and we were told to arrive 10 minutes early. We did, and got stuck at the security check. We told them we had a 7am tour but they would not let us thru and ASSURED us we would not miss the tour. They opened the security check at 7:15, so we were a bit out of sorts about running late already. Sure enough, the CM's were waiting near the C of California and they said it was no problem. They said the tickets should now state it begins at 7:15.
We had some muffins, juice/coffee in the VIP lounge, watched the training video, signed our lives away, received our nametags and we headed off for training. We were told we could not take ANY pictures until we hit the designated picture spot. As a scrapbooker.... this was dissappointing, but oh well. Also, if you save tickets like me, they collect them, so make a copy of it before you go.
So, we get our training and practice on various obstacle courses...cones, hills, stopping, starting, getting on & off etc. Then off we went thru the park, stopping at various spots to hear stories and information about the park.
We stopped near the end, at the look out that looks towards the sunwheel area. They had photopass CM's there that took our picture as a group, then they would take pics for you w/ your camera. I also snapped a few pics while we stopped. Then we continued on.
We were told we could not wear any backpacks or fannypacks due to the balance issues, but they have zip up pouches on the front now, and it fit my fanny pack easily. When Califgirl went on her tour the week before, they did not have these, so things are changing quickly as they learn about the tour and its needs.
We were told this was their biggest tour so far....6ppl....and that it is not advertised yet, so if you want to do it.......do it now before the word gets out! LOL
