Segway Tour

I thought about surprising DH and DSS, but first of all, I couldn't keep it secret for that long, and second, I know for myself anticipation is half the fun! So I told them, and they're all very excited. Now if I can just get that Illuminations cruise...THAT I may try to keep as a surprise.... ;)

I just have to laugh at the age thing, though...my DD is 14, and looks older, so her brother and I were joking that she could go on ithe tour and just say she is 16, and then her brother said, "Sure, she'd pass for 16...until they saw her try to DRIVE the thing!" Even DD got a kick out of that one! DISCLAIMER: I would never REALLY try to pass her off as older (or younger!) than she really is...our parenting philosophy is that actions speak so much louder than words!

This tour is awesome! I would definitely do the Around the World Tour that lasts longer and takes you around the World Showcase. There are rumors that Disney is looking into creating another Segway experience because of the popularity of the current tours....possibly an off-road tour at Fort Wilderness or another venue!! This should happen sometime this year!

The Tour is great - you'll love it.

One piece of advice that I remember is, keep bending those knees. You don't want to get off the segway after an hour and be stiff. You practice bending during the first part of the tour.

Enjoy

We did it a year ago... We LOVED it! It was so much fun! You spend some
time learning how to run the silly thing, and then you're "out in the world!"
you go out into the World Showcase before it opens, and you spend the
2nd hour exploring the WS while it's empty. You get a chance to get some
pics of you on a Segway by the promenade in the Italy pavilion.
You also get a really neat Segway Tour pin that has a little guy on a
Segway that moves back and forth on the pin!

DH and I did the shorter Simply Segway Experience last October and it was awesome! We learned how to ride it inside for about 40 minutes and then went outside Innoventions West to a little garden area and rode another 15 minutes. Since we had a bad experience with a Keys to the Kingdom Tour I was leary of ever doing another WDW Behind the Scenes tour. But the Simply Segway Experience restored my faith in Disney's tours! We will be taking the longer Around the World Segway Tour next October along with our 21 year old DD. Do I regret doing the shorter one first? NO! If I had not liked it, I wouldn't have had as much time or money invested in it. Now I can look forward to doing the longer tour and not worry about whether or not I will like it!

How far in advance can you make reservations? I'd like to surprise my husband with the tour for his birthday in early June.

The tour was great. (See trip report in signature for specifics of our experiences). A good time had by all, and my fiance keeps saying that he wants to do it again.

DH and I have taken it twice now and it was super :cool1: !!!!
We took our youngsest two daughters this year and kept it a surprise from them It was great! They both want to do it again! :thumbsup2

We took the longer tour both times and we can't wait for the new tour. What ever or where ever it is we will book it!

My DH, DS and I did this tour in October and it ws the highlight of our trip, even given that we were there during the Food and Wine festival, which we love. We took the 2 hour tour, with the AAA discount and paid $68 each. We took the 8:30 tour and our entire time in World Showcase was before it opened. I think this adds to the experience, as you do not have the tensions of avoiding folks walking along.
My DH and DS thought I would have trouble learning to use the Segway, but I did not. IT is very easy to learn. My biggest problem was staying absolutely still, I was always leaning a hair forward or backward, thereby moving a hair forward or backward.
Book in advance. Only 10 people per tour are accomodated, with 2 tours a day, so it is only 20 people a day.
Enjoy, it is great.

Make sure you have them take ID. My daughter had to show her driver's license, and I think if she hadn't had it, they wouldn't have let her take the tour!!!

Was the license for ID, or do you have to be a licensed driver in order to go on the Segway?

Got a day added onto a business trip in mid-January, and did the Segway tour. It was GREAT, AWESOME, a BLAST! A must do - experiencing the Segway was incredible, and cruising around Epcot with no crowds (you run around before WorldShowcase opens), through all the worlds, even through a shop or two (esp. Morrocco)...say hi to, ooh, oh no, what was his name?!?
