segmented dining question

Ok first off I am just learning about this within the past week or so.

Is this something Disney does or is it a work around the system. From reading multiple threads it seems to advantageous to a royal pain in the rear.

So if its ok, before I call member services I would like to get my facts straight so I don't sound like a complete fool

We are staying 7 nights in Sept at AKL Kidani ( i just read the nightmare thread about someone not getting the credits and needing 42 room keys) I am sure its on the extreme level but seriously don't even want to come close to that. But if I undertsand correctly, I can use any DP during my stay on just certain nights, and it would actually cover the day of and the next day til midnight correct. For example I check in on a Tuesday, and if I have a DP that night starting, I would have the table, snack and cs til midnight or park closing Wed? Than I can have it on Thursday night and do the same to cover Thurs and Fri.

Ok if this is true, do I have to keep going down to the front desk and check out, check in and what not. If that is the case it sounds like it maybe more trouble than its worth.

Thanks for any help in the above.

You are correct in the way it works. Some people haven't had problems and others spend up to an hour a day trying to get things straightened out with it. I personally don't believe the slight savings I might have on using a dining plan is worth the amount of time people are having to spend dealing with it. You would have a checkout/checkin each time you change dining plans.

I am the person who had to get 42 keys for our 6 night stay. Do not attempt to have multiple dining segments at KV until they get their computer system worked out. What you are describing (dining plan one day, skip a day, dining plan another day), is even more complex than the dining plan segments that we had. We had no dining plan, QS dining plan, and then the regular dining plan - skipping no days between the dining plans. You will have to check in and out for each segment that rotates between the dining plan and no dining plan (new keys each time) - there is just so many things that can go wrong with what you are planning - you will be spending lots of time at the front desk. They even left our bill on our door between segments, as well as giving us reminder calls to be out of our room the next day - when we weren't leaving KV for days. We were scared that we were going to come back to our room, and all of our stuff would be gone, as they had our check out day so mixed up.

WOW! So sorry it worked out that way for you. DO you think it was just a Kidani issue? We will be at Jambo house & have a bunch of segments for our upcoming trip.

We had segmented dining with the QS plan in Dec and it was at Jambo. We had it for the middle two days of the reservation so we had to check in and out twice. We stayed in the same room but it did cause problems with T&T day and the mousekeepers thought we were checking out. That was during the computer changeover and we had issues with the keys but it all worked out in the end. This December we have the Deluxe plan for the first night only at Kidani so will see what happens this time. I think that to do the every other day thing is looking for issues but hopefully I am wrong. We also have it for one night only for our Aug-Sept trip but may add the QS plan for the second half which is a different resort so don't expect issues with that.

I had my reservation segmented for my trip in May. I was staying at OKW. I didn't have any issues with the dining plan and did not have to get multiple room keys as some have had. I started with several nights with the QSDP then several more without then a few more nights with the QSDP again and nothing for the final night since I was leaving very early in the AM. My only issue was that the segmenting messed up the housekeeping schedule for some reason. It took multiple calls on successive days to get the full cleaning done that I should have gotten on day 4 of my stay.

We segmented a 4 night stay at BLT in may...but we did the ddp for the first night then no dining plan for the next 3 had no issues but I do think it's easier just doing one change than some of the plans I've been reading about changing plans for each night of the trip...I would never want to go to the front desk each morning of our vacation to check back in again

I don't know if JH and KV share the same computer system, but if they do, you will probably have some issues. Make sure that you leave a credit card on file for when your keys don't work for your dining plan, and you can just charge the meal to the room, and the front desk can fix it later.

Thanks for the advise. Getting a little nervous..............

after reading all of this, and the possibility of having an issues and going to the desk every other morning. We have decided to just skip the DP all together and pay out of pocket. The way I calculated it, we were only saving less than $100 by doing DP. So for me any anxiety and time spent at the front desk is not worth the money. Now granted we may not have any issues but its a $100 gamble Im not willing to take, my vacation time is to valuable.

Thanks again for all the responses
