Has anyone taken the Disney shuttle to the airport after a cruise ending in Copenhagen? Our flight leaves at 12:15 on the day we return (all the later flights were $1000 more). We don’t know if we would be assigned to a Disney shuttle leaving at a set time, or if they dispatch buses as they fill up.

We’re planning on dragging all of our bags off by ourselves as soon as the ship is cleared, so that we can head to the airport asap. A taxi might be about the same cost, but we don’t know how available they are. Can anyone pass on their experience?

Well, according the the DCL website, they recommend flights at 12:30 or later on debarkation day. So, you may not be able to take a DCL shuttle.

Typically, the DCL shuttles depart as they are full, not a set time.

Thanks. We know about their recommendation to leave no earlier than 12:30, but thought fifteen minutes might be close enough to save the increased airfare. We've never taken a shuttle before, so didn't know that they they may not let us take the shuttle if our flight is scheduled earlier.

Call them to check if they'll sell you the transfers. In other ports, taxis usually come out cheaper than the DCL shuttle because they charge per person. One exception is probably CPH, home of the most expensive cabs in the world. The ride from the airport to the port region costs us 120$. It was a 20 min ride at the most.

Disney charges 80$ a person one way for the transfers so even at 120$ a cab you are still saving 40$ over the Disney cost....

Woah - we took the transfer to the central station on disembarkation. It was something like 20$pp, which was not as excessive. We then took the train to our hotel which was two stops before the airport. For anyone looking to save some $ on CPH transfers, that's the most cost effective way to go then.

I just checked and it's 80$ round-trip, not one way. So the cost for the three of us would have been a bit cheaper with the transfers, since the ride from our hotel to the pier was around 35$. As elsewhere, if you are 4 or more, DCL transfers are pricier.

We did self disembarkation. We took a cab. We had no problem getting one and it was not expensive. We had a party of 4 and all shared one cab.

Thanks for all the info. We'll be using public transit from the airport to the center of the city, so may try the cab and train approach.

It was 2 years ago, but we took a train from the airport to central Copenhagen for a 3 day stay prior to the cruise. It was very easy and pretty cheap (about $8/person if I remember?.) We took a cab from the hotel to the ship for embarkation. It was not super cheap, but dropped us off right at the ship. At the time, the nearest bus stop was a good walk to the pier. They were working on renovations to the port though, so perhaps this has changed. We took the DCL transfer to the airport on the way home, with the 12:15 flight as well. We carried our luggage off ourselves, got on the bus, which filled and left quickly. We were at the airport over an hour before we could even check in.

$8 per person is pretty accurate. I am Danish and visit Copenhagen several times each year. A taxi from the pier to the airport would be $60-70 at the current (favorable) exchange rate and a taxi from the pier to the Central Station around $25. Traffic at that time of day will be relatively light.

Note that you do not tip taxis in Denmark.

From late 2019, the new Metro will make the trip much easier.

It's good to hear that the bus fills up quickly. Even after a cruise, I'd be really fidgety about getting to the airport, so don't want to be sitting on the bus for 45 minutes while folks trickle off.

I apologize that my question is a bit off topic, but we will have 5 traveling from our hotel to the port and from the port to the central station after the cruise. Does Copenhagen have taxis that accommodate 5 or more passengers? Thanks!

We took the Disney bus in Copenhagen. Very smooth and check in was relatively quick once we figured out what to do. I think we went through all the security by 1030, maybe even 10am. We had a longer wait and it stunk. Not a lot of seating in that airport at all. You should be able to make a 1215 pretty easy if the ship is on time. Our cruise we docked in Copenhagen overnight so delays weren't a problem.

I have a question about the shuttles to the port. We are staying at the Tivoli, and I understand that DCL provides shuttles from there to the port. I am assuming that if I want to get on the ship ASAP with our relatively low boarding number, a cab would be preferable, but want to confirm.

I suppose I am basing that off of how the shuttles go from WDW to PC, but if anyone has done it in Copenhagen, any info would be appreciated.

It may have been a one time occurrence, but we weren't able to get a cab in Copenhagen at the end of the 2016 Norwegian fjords cruise. While we were still on board ship, Disney issued a warning that cabs would be hard to come by once disembarked and offered what space was available on their shuttles on a first come, first served basis. It was pure mayhem in the terminal - as indeed there were no cabs, and no orderly place for people to line-up for the shuttles back to the airport. It worked out in the end, and we took a Disney shuttle to the airport, but I wouldn't count on getting a cab immediately after you disembark.

I am wondering this as well. We are traveling as five people and I want to get there early. In Barcelona we took a cab from our hotel and we got there earlier than the Disney buses. It was much cheaper too. Wondering if Copenhagen is the same.

Finding a cab at Tivoli shouldn't be hard because it is in the middle of the city. Out at the port though, it is a bit more remote so getting a cab there could be hard. You just have to balance cost and make sure the cab can take all of your luggage. Cab will almost always be faster than a bus.

So you don't think the taxi companies send a lot of cabs to the port when a cruise ship comes in?

I can't say for sure, some above mentioned there weren't any. We did the Disney bus when we left and it was exceptionally easy and fast. We were docked at one of the further out piers and there really wasn't a whole lot there. I'm not sure if it is standard for cabs to go out there and wait like in the US. The port area is nice, but it is a bit of a drive from city center. I can see cabs not wanting to drive out there and risk not getting a fare. Since there are so many buses, it may not be profitable. Also, the airport is a quite a ways from the pier. So cab fare probably adds up anyway. If you are looking for something easy, the Disney buses are the way to go. We got to the airport at like 10-1030 and we weren't trying to get there fast because we had a later flight.
