Any reason I should be concerned leaving a laptop in my room? I'd like to have it to download my digital pictures and play DVDs for the kids. Unless the in cabin TV's have a DVD player and the camera shop can transfer pictures to CD's at a reasonable cost.

Any thoughts from the seasoned cruisers?

I would be interested in knowing the answer myself. I am debating about bringing our lap top too. We would have to carry it on as I would not leave it in my checked baggage as it might get banged around. Would shutters be able to download pictures from your digital camara? Also I know that there are not DVD players in some rooms (Category 7).

I left mine in the top desk drawer and no one bothered it. I used it to download my pictures, but never even thought of playing DVD's. Of course, I wouldn't have had time to watch movies anyway!

We took ours too. Out of sight, out of mind. They do not fit in the
safe so make sure you put it away.

Left mine sitting on the table everyday. Shutters will download your pics to CD at $14.95 a pop. The cabins do not have dvd players, maybe the Cat 3's & above do...

I'd leave it home. With memory sticks so cheap, just can't see risk losing, or having my laptop damaged.

We left ours out too, and didn't have a problem. We also left our portable DVD player out. (We're electronics-heavy when we travel, I guess!)

No DVD in Cat. 3 as of Jan. 2004.

No DVD player in the room, but the tv has plenty of kids programming -- 2 channels of Disney movies, Toon Disney, Disney channel, plus other movies playing (on our cruise a couple of weeks ago, they were Lemony Snicket and Spongebog Squarepants movie, plus some other PG movies)

We transferred our pics to a disk while on the cruise, it ws $14.95.

We always take ours since we fly in a day ahead and we need to keep in contact with our business so it comes in handy at the hotel. (You have to use DCL's internet cafe once on the ship and their computers.) Once on he ship my husband downloads the dig. camera to the computer. We have always left the computer on the table with no problems. I have even forgot my jewelry bag out on the vanity and no problems. Kathy

We took our lap top also...and left it out on the desk the whole week. The rooms are failry limited to who can enter...Mainly it will be your room stewart. Other than that no one else but your family...and who ever else you give your room key to should go in there ;) . So if something should happen to it or anything else in the room...they can pinpoint who had acess to that area. I'm sure there are others on the ship who can get in your room...but it's not everyone. And the only ones who have the okay to go in on a regular basis is the room host...

Cat 3's have VHS VCR's... and CD players for music... NO DVD!

I left my laptop out every day, never touched.

Where is someone gonna go with it??

Bringing the laptop was well worth it. We downloaded more then 500 pictures onto while we were on board. We left it in the top drawer of the desk and it was fine....No one bothered it...but then again, our room was so cluttered with clothes and souveniers, and pillows..(my 13 yo daughter thought it would be a hilarious joke if she ordered 10 pillows from room service....and guess what was waiting for us when we came back from dinner)...

Thanks for the great question. I didn't even think of bringing mine but I will now.

We brought ours on a 7 day last summer and left it on the desk the entire time. No one ever touched it.

We left ours out on the desk everyday on both our cruises, never had a problem and we will take it on the 14 day as well.

If you were ever worried, you could lock it in your suitcase.

Just a thought

It was great having our laptop on the ship. We downloaded all digital pics every night. By being able to look at the pictures on the screen, we were able to determine if we really did need some shutters photos or not. We also burned them on a CD, so that if something happened to the computer, we would not have lost the trip photos.

Absolutely no concern about the laptop disappearing. We did usually keep it in the closet, on a shelf near the safe.
