Security line waits

how have the lines for security / bag checks been lately. I had a family member recently return who said there were new security measures and long waits at some park entrances.

I was at Disney World (Magic Kingdom & Epcot) this past weekend & found it to be as my previous trips. Security personnel searched through my unzipped bags and I moved on without delays.

My Dad was "randomly" selected six days in a row. I got selected twice. It didn't slow us down any.

Everything I have read is that Disney has added personnel and the impact is minimal.

We did encounter one very long wait at HS on 1/30. It was the longest line we saw that week. It took about 15 minutes to get through which wasn't bad. It looked way worse. They are definitely being more thorough which is okay with me.

Was there the 30th-yesterday.. wasn't too bad - the only annoying thing I encountered (and it happened twice!) was a security guy in MK who went through every single pouch of my wallet. I have a wallet that has two additional zippered portions (one big one to hold my phone, and a coin pouch). I sometimes just carry it as a purse if it's a light day. Anyways, he took out my wallet and opened up the coin section and the part that holds my phone. At the time my phone wasn't in there, and just holding it is very obvious that there was nothing but coins in there.. it was a bit of overkill..

DH and were there 1/15-1/20 and were both selected 5x I think. Each time was very quick and there was never a back-up. Actually, every time we were selected, the security personnel were just kind of standing around doing nothing......I guess waiting for someone "shady-looking" to come by :smooth:

was at disney last week and they tell you to unzip all bags and backpacks BEFORE you get to the guys in yellow to inspect them. took about 2 minutes, maybe 4 people max in front of us.

only problem is that i ALWAYS got called over for a "random secondary screening" after the initial screening, which meant walking thru a metal detector after emptying your pockets

My oldest son was "randomly" selected every day of our 10 day stay in January, sometimes more than once/day if we hopped. 18 year old - typical teen looks.

Still, didn't slow us down enough to matter - minute tops.

Thanks for all the replies. My family member went to HS the same day there was an incident at Disney in Paris. I wonder if that was why they had such a long wait that particular day. 1/2 hour almost. Sounds like most here are reporting minimal change in waits.

There was hardly ever a line at the metal detectors when we went that I almost wanted to go through those instead of the normal bag checks. That's how smooth it was.

we were there a couple of weeks ago and breezed right threw, we didn't have any bags tho.

They only choose a few lucky ones to go through the metal detectors so it's not like you have to stand in another line.

They really do spend more time going through bags though .

I was picked twice out of 5 days to go through the detectors.
They told me to remove my Birthday Celebration pin so it wouldn't set off the machine- but the funny thing was my bilateral knee replacements never set it off. They always set off the metal detectors in the airport.
Made me kind of wonder if the machines are even turned on!

When we visited on MLK weekend, in 4 days at MK and EP we never saw a single person going thru the metal detectors. You just got very lucky, I guess!
