I am trying to decide between these two hotels. How much time is spent in security lines getting in to the parks from these two hotels?

GCH has a MUCH smaller security line... but lower guests. so your mileage may vary.

We’ve stayed at both this year. GCH had generally a far shorter line. We did not use the GCH entrance to DCA at rope drop, however. Longest we waited at GCH security at either point even near RD was 2 minutes, often no wait. DLH was always a few minutes, but never more than 3-5 minutes. But the walk felt SO much further to DLH to me!!

Huh, stayed DLH but longest security line I had was at GCH on a Sat evening going into DtD, about 15 mins. The DLH back into DtD was about 10.

There are a couple threads on this right now, to me the common things are:
-Harbor entrance is the worst. Hands down. There was a report of a 45(!) min wait a week or two ago.
-Time of day is huge. I did a weekend visit staying DLH with 7am EMHs and waited less than 5 mins at security every morning around 7:10am. Other people on the boards who had 9am EMH reported long lines from DLH into DtD. Time of day is very important otherwise you aren't comparing apples to apples.

Also, the DLH has 4 or 5 metal detectors, and the entrance from GCH to DTD and the entrance from GCH toDCA each have 1. It can really back up if there is a crowd.

No to hijack the thread but 45 mins from the harbor side?? We stay over there when not onsite and last year the new security wasn’t up yet. We are like an hour before RD arrival kind of people (we go during the holidays so RD is 7-8 am) do we need to add more time? That’s crazy long!

Took me some searching but I found it! I misquoted- 40 mins, not 45. Not like it makes that much difference but it sure made it hard for me to find the thread again! Here's the post from a couple weeks ago: https://www.disboards.com/threads/security.3635311/#post-58225513

We're at the Grand right now. The security going into DTD has been fine. Only a few people if any.
I've also stayed at PPH since the security tents at the end of DTD, no problem there either.

I have really noticed a change in the volume of people in and through the lobby first thing in the morning.
Have to say I really like Disney has cut front entrance access to non-reservation guest/people.

Pick the hotel that suits your needs, security should be fine.

Have fun

I've NEVER waited that long on the Harbor side. I've never waited more than 5 minutes on that side. M&F I've waited 15 before. I have seen pictures of the 45 minute crowd on that side, but thankfully I've never run into it. The problem is that it seems hard to predict.

I've seen it backed up on the Harbor side about 1/3 to half way down the tram center lane. We now go to the DLH side to enter if we are at the Hilton, only a couple mins further and much easier.

Exactly!! Hopefully we can start compiling some data points from people and figure out if there's a pattern to the security backups so we can plan our arrivals more accurately since a decent number of people here try to make rope drop or even in the evenings have reservations or fastpasses and we don't need security hindering the magic :)

Don't decide based off that, I'm at DLH now and a few months ago was it DGC...both weren't bad ..i would imagine it depends on the day.

This weekend is a NON-Disney event, Gay Days. We have noticed the PARK crowd beginning to build as the weekend approaches.
But it's been fine using security from GCH into DTD.
