Security Check

I was wondering if you all thought the front-gate security check would ever be abolished? I think it is a foolish waste of time. If it was a "real" check that would be one thing, but this silly "for show" check where they only look in your bag (and not your pockets or legs, etc.) seems to me to be a real waste of time and energy. I assume it is for show... to provide the appearance of security despite the inadequate nature of the check.

Think it will ever go away?

I dunno, I suppose it will depend on if we ever declare that we've won "The War on Terror!" I know that it must be costing a bundle that could be spend on improvements elsewhere. But, you have to make folks "feel safe".

I agree, it is just for show... it is a waste of time... just another line to stand on in Disney....

The checks are there to stay for the forseeable furture. Not because they deter but they are a feel good policy. They probably were told to by the security consultants they hire that always take a worse case senerio and bill it as what is going to happen. I am sure their insurance carrier demands it also. Having been thru them many times they checks bags and strollers but make no attempt to pat the people down and we all know by watching the news how suside bombers work. I am sure they are better than nothing but not much...smjj

I don't think the screening at the airport does a lot either for safety but I doubt either one will be going away any time soon.

Perhaps the bag search isn't the real security check that's going on. Maybe the fact that they can slow all of the people down gives someone else somewhere else a chance to look at all of us more thoroughly. I wonder if they look for people who display some type of "suspicious" behavior...

Do they really check your bags anyways?

Like I thought you weren't supposed to bring food and drinks into the parks.. and me and my sister did when we were there last year.. they never said anything.

I guess it depends on what you have in your bag how thorough they are. My bag klunked onto the check table and I told him it was my Baby's dinner. He laughed and asked me to show it to him. I showed him the jars of baby food and it was no big deal.

Sorry if I held any of you up with my stroller, backpack and bag packed for a week of baby emergencies. I can't wait till they are old enough to carry their own stuff and we can once again travel light! :rotfl: well maybe not, I don't want them to grow up to fast.

I did notice that it is quicker to go thru the ones to the far right or left that only have one side open.

I try not to carry anything on me to be searched. But sometimes I have a camera case, or like last Saturday evening, my purse.

With my purse, the security agent literally crooked his finger and barely even glanced at my purse, let alone inside.
At the table next to me the security CM was riffling through a backpack, making the guests unpack it.
(Fine example of Disney's consistent inconsistency)

I have seen many strollers go through the non bag entrance unchecked.

Sure -- carry anything you like on your person. Just not in a bag.

Funny aside. I took my 8 y/o GD for her first trip to WDW in January. We fly out of Dallas and of course when we left DFW the day before we had to take our shoes off and send them through the airport scanner. Anyway, as we got ready to go into EPCOT I told her we had to go through security and she said "Oh no! we have to take our shoes off again? No way! that ground's dirty and I have new socks on." As we left the area she said "he didn't check us very good".

Perhaps they only check a random rumber of bags. If they checked each and every bag, they lines would be even longer, with little to gain. I would think it would be up to the screener as to which person gets the fine toothed comb treatment - depending on how the guest acts, looks, etc. There is always a tradeoff between no search at all, search random guests based on best judgement or search each and every guest.

As long as you're not dragging in a full cooler or a six-pack of beer, Disney will allow food and drink to be brought into the parks. It has been this way for decades.

No, I don't - I think it will be here for the awhile.

Imagine the criticism Disney would get if they didn't have a security check.

It's a SECURITY check not a "are you following the policies" check. That's why they don't say anything when they see a sandwich.

Lol what if I make my sandwich into a bomb? ;) jk jk jk I'm not that smart anyways. What a waist of food! lol

Anyways... I was gonna tell a story and now I forgot. Hang on lemme think of it again...

OOh i remember now (see I told you I wasn't very smart). Ok umm I had my backpack and inside my backpack was my video camera case.. I dont even think they made me open up the case so they could see inside that.
